  • SDG31000 thanks for the tip about the spuds from Lidl.

OH has left to go and pick up DD1 from uni :j:j:j. I have made her bed up and put the curtains up in her room. I am going to fly around and do the cleaning before they get back then it is out of the way for the weekend. I did some of it in the week so it should not take long.

Has anyone heard how the wedding went? I love a good wedding.

MIL rang last night to say she had won an Ipod in a tombola, she did not know what it was but would DD2 like it. I have told her what it is and how you use them but she still wants to give it to her now even though I suggested she give it to her at christmas, so thats one lucky daugther and one lovely MIL :A.

    Cats? Do tell!

We have a Korat which is an ancient Thai breed and supposed to bring good luck to the household...then we have her half sister the Borat. She is a Burmese/Korat cross breed, hence the "Borat". That is her breed, not her name. She is the naughtiest cat in the universe. She has managed to climb on the bay window roof and get stuck, she climbs all the doors in the house, she visits my friend who live three houses up the road, eats their cat's dinner, batters their cat and then sleeps in their cat's bed. I wouldn't let her in but they seem to like her. Since we've bought a hamster we've had a little peace and quiet as she sometimes likes to go and watch the cage in case the hamster escapes.

She's eaten two cat beds, several fleece blankets and is now working her way through her radiator bed. When she falls through it she isn't having another. Neither of them are scared of water and it's a bit disconcerting to have a cat swinging out from the clothes dryer in the bathroom, over your bath full of water and back again.

Apologies to cat haters. I bought the first cat as a friend for the house elf when his dad died. It then seemed like a good idea to get a friend for cat number one. How wrong can you be :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Where could I see Harrods window display? I tried the website and its not there. I always wanted to come to London just to see Harrods, and I would buy some cheap things to get their carrier bags to take home lol!

The only thing we ever got from Harrod's was a really tiny tin of biscuits given away as a Christmas gift by a wealthy relative visiting from the States. Heaven knows what they cost. The Harrod's logo and colour was on the tin. I guess it still has the reputation not unlike Fortnum and Mason's.

Locally(I haven't seen it for years)the Christmas display to see was in Newcastle upon Tyne and the branch of the London store Fenwicks of Bond Street they also had the big toy department.

I suppose you have certain departmental stores in Scotland with a similar reputation...

Mardatha, it's a dream of mine too, to visit the Harrod's Christmas window, except the only problem is I think I am a bit weird as I have no desire to visit London.

I remember bleating on in the summer about how I wasn't going to put the heating on during the day, would wrap up warm with gloves and hats. Have I done it? Have I heck :rotfl: I wear my chunky indoor cardi and thick socks and if I still feel cold the heating goes on. There's no worse feeling than feeling the cold. I do turn the upstairs off though. I put them on at 5pm so it warms up before bath and bedtime.

As for staying in of an evening, I'm home bird and like staying in. It's different for me as I have DH to annoy, my kiddies running around and the crazy pup. Come 7pm I'm pleased of a bit and peace and relaxation. But, being indoors doesn't have to be boring. If I get a bit twiddly thumbs I make something, try my hand at a new crochet/knit stitch, find some useful youtube tutorials to learn something, browse Pinterest etc.

Like my eldest says to me 'mam I aint ever going to be bored, a bored mind is a useless mind'. I kind of agree with her thinking.

I think I have had two visits to London but only for the day...we used to pass through on the way to Bournemouth for a hoiday changing between King's Cross and Waterloo.

It must be at least 15 years since I last saw London.

  • Morning Toughies, by eck its cold down here but beautifully sunny and bright, we had some really heavy showers in the night though, hard enough to wake us up when it was pinging off the windows at 4.15 am.

I have a subscription to Permaculture Magazine and this month they have details of a Pocket Woodstove that folds up into a tobacco tin. If anyone would like a look google GREEN SHOPPING POCKET STOVE - the price it is offered at in the magazine is £25.50p looks as if it might be a useful gadget.

CRANKY - Thank heavens there are people like your little son in this world, and thank you for sharing his views, you've just given me more hope for the future of our race than I've had for a very long time!!!

FUDDLE - Hope you had a good evening with your Mam and that you aren't too tired this morning. Poor old Docky is not a happy boy at this time of year, he sooooooo hates the fireworks and there is nothing that will comfort him. I had hoped we wouldn't have too many pops and bangs this year but a couple of the big organised displays aren't on this year and lots of folks seem to be having home firework parties, it's going to be a long couple of weeks for him poor old boy!!

My kitchen smells amazing, I'm roasting up the reduced duck legs I got yesterday, they are going to be such a treat, I love duck but very rarely have it as it is so pricy, Thank you Mr.M!!!

Have a good day all, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I love cats :) The Borat sounds like an absolute monster though! I love how your cat terrorises your friend's house... but they like her anyway! She sounds like my brother's cat. He was a bit of a monster so they had to keep him indoors. Twice he broke a paw escaping through upstairs windows (what happened to them always landing on their feet?) the third time he jumped he went straight through the conservatory roof! He was a bit of a celebrity at the vets! And when he had to have special food and we put a 'do not feed' collar on about six different people said what a shame he used to love coming to me for his little snacks! The cheeky little bleeder had a dinner party circuit!

I have recently adopted a cat, he looked completely normal in the pictures but when I went to collect him he was enormous! At least twice the size of a normal cat. We call him Baloo because he is a bear. He's not a breed or anything, just a freak of nature. He's over a metre long when he stretches out and he weighed 9.5kg when we got him! Apparently even a cat as large as him should only be about 6 so he's on a diet. He'll always be a big boy though. We had one of those covered litter trays but he's so large he literally couldn't turn around in it. The scratching post broke in two the first time he used his full strength on it. :rotfl: He cost us a fortune in cat furniture. But I don't have many treats, my cat is my one extravagance.

:) My pal who was here the night before last has a monster black cat, huge, savage and full of attitude. He's in the Highlands and has his suspicions that this (rescue) cat may be one of the so-called Kellas cats, hybrids between domestic and Scottish wildcats. Cat has it's own hazard warning at the vet's, apparently.

I love cats in general but having heard the antics of friend's monster cat, I'd be leery about even attempting to pet him. And this is another animal which goes into other people's homes via the cat flap to help himself to food and intimidate the incumbent moggies. They get calls from the neighbours.......:o
