Can I have some old style help please? just got the pressure cooker out to make soup and realized I only ever use it for this! I have a cook book but it is 20 years old at least and a tad old fashioned.
I would like to get something up to date for my kindle app but would like a recommendation please!
My pressure cooker is the most OS thing I have . 15 years old and £4 from a boot sale!0 -

In which case Sky would be a new install, check elsewhere on the forum for current deals.
TV aerial, you can get a male to male aerial lead that would easily connect to your existing socket and your TV, don't worry about wall mounting if you don't wish to go that route. (1st hit on ebay was a 10m lead for £2.79 free post). Check with the landlord where the aerial socket connects to, if its in the loft then its a relatively simple job to connect an aerial yourself. (a compass is handy for alignment but you can do it just by moving the aerial till you've got a good signal)

Morning all from a soggy savingqueen - the path (from the car
) to school is full of holes and it was bucketing it down earlier so my light colour jeans got very muddy and soggy. I really need some boots but have such sturdy legs (ok fat) that despite being just a generous size 14 I can't get my legs into ordinary high street boots incl wellies so would need to shop round for a 'boots for sturdy legs shop' which will no doubt cost the earth. Even when I slimmed down to a size 10, my legs were slimmer but still proportionally in the sturdy class.
Also need a decent winter coat, mine is ancient and fine for autumn but not warm enough for very cold weather so resort to a thick cardi and thinner layers underneath and waddle about like a walking sleeping bag. As I am trying so hard to squirrel money away for our house repairs, I feel I can't buy myself new stuff. Maybe I will get the boots and make do with the coat as a compromise. Silly really as the kids are kitted out with decent winter clothes and cl&&ks shoes.
Well I survived the party yesterday but boy was it hectic/noisy. One boy was a particular handful (sure he is auty) but such a sweetie I didn't mind at all. However at the end DH had to tell him off for being really rough to another child just as his dad walked in to collect him. DH felt bad but I reminded him all the kids had fun and as we are responsible for them if their parents choose not to stay (they were invited too) we have to ensure safety and wellbeing as well as doing the fun party stuff.
Funny I was worried it would be too much excitement for DS2 but he handled it all well, greeted all his friends individually as they came in and took himself off to the quiet corner DH set up with colouring etc when he needed to. DS1 was the handful - couldn't get to sleep the night before for hours (excitement) so was very tired and burst into tears a couple of times over minor things.
kidcat - so sorry to hear about bunny. hope you have a peaceful day and your visit goes to plan.
liskay - thinking of you today
everyone else - hope you are all ok? if you're having a real toughie day please share - we are here for you. All for one and one for all!
Realising I am in a very chatty mood so best stop chatting now and have another cuppa to brace myself for the mountains of dishes/washing and assorted tasks to be done.
DH has a couple of days annual leave to catch up with his coursework and is still asleep. I don't have the heart to wake him, he must be tired. Means though I feel justified sitting here for a bit longer having been up since 6.30 with the kids.

Morning all, hope you are weathering the weather, whatever the weather, wherever you are!!!
SQ - Have you looked in Evans lately? They do shoes and boots which are generous round the calf and nice and wide in the foot, might be worth a look?
Have a good day everyone, and try to stay dry!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
I didn't hear anything of a deluge overnight but it's picking up now. DH is in work and not venturing out today and I am staying firmly put as my two have diarrhea. So no going out.
I'm relieved to not have to walk in it and I need to get to grips with the house. When it's a mess it muddles my mind and I feel all out of control and anxious. I must learn about Feng Shui. I'm sure I need it!
I've to go in the en suite (ha! sounds posh, it isn't. It's a shower room that has been installed in the bedroom cupboard by LL's dad. A very shoddy job without any extraction) we've never used it as we haven't trusted it at all but being in the damp room there's mould growing on the grouting.
Am I correct in thinking a scrub with bleach and vinegar will do the trick?
I've also got to put my table on ebayit's the one possession I have that I love to pieces. It just won't fit so has to go. It's only a table huh?
DH also has found out that as the houses are new there's no ariel. We have to pay to get one installed. We possibly won't have TV over Christmas although DH does want sky installed again so I don't know. Also the ariel socket and plug point is up by the ceiling so we have to hang the TV on the wall which means another expense in buying a bracket. We just think it's going to have to wait till after Christmas.
Can I ask a favour? I have heard the makers of The Snowman have made a new one with a dog in it. If anyone sees it's going to be on would they give me a shout so the girls can watch it online? Ta muchly
Not bleach and vinegar together. That sounds like a chemical reaction waiting to go bang! I use a weak bleach solution and a toothbrush0 -
forgot to say "good luck" 2tonsils. If it's meant to be, it will be so don't worry! Let us all know later how it went.
smiley - you naughty girl (says she stuffing herself with left over choc mini rolls - foil wrapped so no excuse they won't keep!)
kidcat - I also hide my own chocolate from me! I have a serious addiction and feel panicky if I don't have some stashed away. Trouble is put it all over the house and then can't always remember where it is. Yesterday in the mad scramble to tidy up, found 2 sainsbobs basics bars hidden :j
My tumble drier (no longer use and doesn't work properly - why do we still have it?) is full of assorted junk as is the car boot as I needed quick solutions to the clutter yesterday. I have made a serious decision to visit the decluttering or hoarding boards and start decluttering. Yesterday really bought home how bad the clutter is. However I did allow DH to recycle a massive pile of old mags (some were several years old) - wanted to go through them for receipes etc but have enough cook books and the net so don't need them. First step! :T
going now honestly...

7_week_wonder wrote: »Evening all,
Just checking in after a flying weekend visit to my old mum. She's down in Yorkshire and I don't think I have ever seen so much water lying around with nowhere to go. I feel so sorry for folk further south, who have had it much worse. Has anyone heard from KatieOwl - I know she was helping her flooded neighbour a couple of days ago.
 Here I am!!!
OH and DS managed to sandbag my neighbour before too much damage was done. It was flooded from the end of our road, right down to hers, and the drains were all blocked with fallen leaves, so the water started to pour into her front garden, she's a little below the road level, and it was starting to come over the front door step  Fortunately it stopped raining
OH says, otherwise he thinks they wouldn't have been able to do much!
It's rained so much here this weekend we've practically hibernated. My poor chickens are so waterlogged, we are now letting them out to wander the back end of the garden, so they get a break from paddling, one does think perhaps that we should have got ducks!
I'm still stiff from my fall, really thinking about whether I go upstairs or down now as it's such a struggle, really makes me remember to get my phone, glasses etc before the trip LOL!
Today is baking day, DD has to work so can't help me, but we didn't sell a lot last week, so again I think we will do a paired down version. I have an order for cheesecake, and I will make brownies, as I can freeze those if they don't sell and fish them out another time. I'll do a bit more savoury stuff I think, then eating it all week is not so hard. Also OH has loads of carrots in the garden so I may do a carrot and coriander soup. They are cutting the rent from the stalls from this week, because it's been so quiet!
I had my friends mum in the B&B last night, as she is moving into sheltered accommodation in town today. They shipped her and all her stuff down from Yorkshire yesterday. My friend wanted her to be 'on the flat' as there is building work going on at her house, and she didn't want her mum to fall. She decided she only wanted tea and toast for breakfast, so I was able to feed her HM bread and HM Marmalade. (I spotted some YS clementines for 25p a bag in Spar last week, so bought all four bags and cooked them up yesterday) The market stuff will therefore include the bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes I bought for B&B breakfast, and we can have a sausage casserole for tea :rotfl:

Fuddle - DH could try ringing sky back and say you've reconsidered and decided to keep sky when you move - they may well just cancel the cancellation IYSWIM! Too right the box is yours, apart from anything else if next tenants want sky they will get a new box when they sign up (if new sign up) or will be bringing their own with them (if had sky at previous place).
Keep your fingers crossed for our brum brum please he's at the garage man to get his lights sorted (hopefully) really don't want it to be something complicated as that will mean a trip to renault and it is a major PITA getting him there. DS loved dropping the car off though - he was fascinated with the garage, he is SUCH a boy!
Waterproof hugs for anyone in soggy places - it's raining here but we've escaped the worst of it this time. Quite a miracle considering our village usually becomes an island at the first sign of heavy rain.0 -
Fuddle if the Sky box is yours then maybe you could call Sky and re-instate it, say it was a mix up and you didn't mean to cancel? Say you thought you had to cancel because you're moving, you didn't realise you could get them to move it. The RV says if you were nearer he would come down and do it
And as Nuatha says, you could get an extension bit of co-ax to have the tv lower down and possibly a loft aerial if the signal is strong.0
