Loved this! Why the hell would you want to have bits of diamonds in your nail varnish!!:rotfl:Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
I didn't hear anything of a deluge overnight but it's picking up now. DH is in work and not venturing out today and I am staying firmly put as my two have diarrhea. So no going out.
I'm relieved to not have to walk in it and I need to get to grips with the house. When it's a mess it muddles my mind and I feel all out of control and anxious. I must learn about Feng Shui. I'm sure I need it!
I've to go in the en suite (ha! sounds posh, it isn't. It's a shower room that has been installed in the bedroom cupboard by LL's dad. A very shoddy job without any extraction) we've never used it as we haven't trusted it at all but being in the damp room there's mould growing on the grouting.
Am I correct in thinking a scrub with bleach and vinegar will do the trick?
I've also got to put my table on ebayit's the one possession I have that I love to pieces. It just won't fit so has to go. It's only a table huh?
DH also has found out that as the houses are new there's no ariel. We have to pay to get one installed. We possibly won't have TV over Christmas although DH does want sky installed again so I don't know. Also the ariel socket and plug point is up by the ceiling so we have to hang the TV on the wall which means another expense in buying a bracket. We just think it's going to have to wait till after Christmas.
Can I ask a favour? I have heard the makers of The Snowman have made a new one with a dog in it. If anyone sees it's going to be on would they give me a shout so the girls can watch it online? Ta muchly0 -
Hi Pops
Thanks for the info on kettles GQ
lisakay - hope all goes well today ((hugs))
softstuff hope you are feeling a little brighter today
ginny - hope your meds have kicked your arthritis today for you - although I expect the damp isnt helping
smiley - I do that all the time - I hide chocolate from me!!
fuddle -you can prebook sky to come out on the day you move but be warned if you do that make sure you keep the sky box and cables separate and somewhere you find easily.
I assume you are moving on one day but if you spread it out like we did then you will only get the sky in one house. A house move with sky is free fitting etc as well.
as for the mould chances are it will grow back unless you use an anti fungicide, you can buy special sprays which do work - and as you dont want to be re-doing it during the move it may be worth a purchase.
Off to the pet cemetary today, DS8 is off so am having to take him with me, thankfully there is some little shoppy type things next door so am hoping I can leave him in car while I drop her off and then take him to the shops for a wander.0 -
Fuddle, i checked and the tax credits arent covered by the BR it was after when OH lost his job. Thankyou for reminding me tho. They asked had i got anything i could sell to pay them, ummm no only the car but then we cant work - catch 22.
Have you asked the builder if there will be tv ariels installed, around here they can often get them fixed for around £50 especially if there are a few to be done in one go. Just a thought.
Well today its raining. Not overly windy tho thankfully. Need to get myself into gear, have washing to do and housework to complete. I have a day off today and tomorrow so will need to cook proper tea!!
Have a good day everyone.BSC member 137

I use bicarbonate of soda mixed with bleach to a thick paste, smear on and leave as long as you can stand the swimming pool smell - a couple of hours at least. Then shower off, it may need a couple of goes.
They are doing / have done a Snowman and the snowdog - I know cos Benedict Cumberbatch is narrating and I'm a bit of a fan. I'll let you know if I hear.
I'm like you that if the house is a tip it "discombobulates" me (love that word), and with me not being here for a week and then not up to speed since I got back, it is now a complete mess. I am cleaning the kitchen and the bathrooms today and then the rest of the house through the week. THink I am reasonably caught up with sleep now.
Our town centre is completely gridlocked apparently as all the roads out are flooded and people are trying to find ways through. THe town is at the confluence of two rivers so will usually be flooded to some extent after heavy rainfall, but we've never seen it this bad. We are ok as we live at the absolute highest point (a b*gger when you go jogging :rotfl:) but OH has taken ages getting DD to school which is in a different town 8 miles away.
Hmm, I seem to have finished my coffee so I will find something on Iplayer to listen to whilst I tackle the kitchen. I have washing in the machine and on the line, a chicken carcass stocking in the slow cooker, left over bread soaking in milk to make bread pudding and some knitting I am desperate to finish. As I said yesterday, I am so bl00dy rock n rollI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
It's the £50 that's the problem. It's a big chunk of money for us and with the holiday money and emergency fund cleared to move we've got nothing in reserve until we get the deposit back on this house we live in. A rotten time of year to move - but I'm still happy
Things don't always go to plan but if it's worth having, it's worth waiting for
Kidcat, thank you. I'll look at the stuff Byatt was talking about from Lakeland. Drat DH cancelled sky because LL wants the box kept in the house to go with the sky dish. We were going to sign up again when we moved into the new house. Have we done it wrong?0 -
Fuddle is it your sky box? If so definitely keep it.
River alarmingly high here - nowhere near our house (although canal is) but we cross it to take DH to work. DD is quite worried as she heard on the radio that someone died falling into a river.
on another note she is slowly driving me up the wall as she hasn't stopped talking about Irish dancing since the feis on Saturday. The dress she was watching on ebay went for £60 which is cheap for one of those but way more than her budget. Apparently when she was with the in-laws yesterday she asked MIL for a xmas present but said not to tell me as it was better I didn't know - a curly wig for the next feis! Luckily my MIL is very sensible and put her off then told me in secret, although she could hardly talk for laughing.0 -
The rain that hit the UK in the last few days has now been joined by another system...its expected to slow down and bring very heavy rain to Wales, the Midlands and then the North. It could bring thunderstorms and high winds as well. Be careful out there folks, particularly as there could be frost tonight as well. Expected to turn noticeably colder tomorrow...horrible if you are cold and drenched...
Hope you all have a good day and stay safe and well and dry. Getting myself ready for my unexpected job interview later today. Not getting my hopes up, will just go and see what they have to say.
Will post later folks...off to try and track down our postman, he hasn't been for ten days!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
We had sky installed and pay for it so I guess it is our box. Can't be bothered to worry about it. We have no idea how to be tenants and I don't think the LL has any idea how to be a LL. We're so confused about what is expected and what we do.
Called into work to tell them that I wouldn't be in as have the girls off. The receptionist told me there would be no way I'd get through the flood at the bottom of the hill walking without waders.0 -
Fuddle, I don't know if you will have internet at the new house but if you do you could plug the tv into the laptop and watch it until you get an aerial installed....or maybe buy a cheap aerial to use indoors till you get it sorted. That way you would not need a bracket for the tv immediately. Just a suggestion.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
