(((((kidkat))))) sorry that your Bunny has passed away and hope the children won't be too upset esp your littlies.
:T Unixgirluk, that basket is fantastic by anyone's reckoning, never mind a beginner. I'm just a touch green.
Spent my day alternately reading and shopping (gawd I hate shopping) and doing odd bits and bobs. Was intending to have everything in my domestic sphere tickety-boo and all ready for Monday but that was a folorn hope.
I've done 2 laundry loads, washed hair and bathed, decluttered some stuff to the c.s. and washed some floors. I didn't wash the others because they had stuff all over them.:p Tomorrow is another day. I shall go to work and come home again and not-wash the floors again, most probably.
That just leaves some undone ironing, unmade bread, unmade banana cake and undone dusting. Oh, and an unmade bed because I washed the linen and haven't remade it. Yet.
All that un-doneness and not even the interweb on until 6-ish to excuse my slackness. But I was shattered and feel better for having an easy day.
Fuddle, re the electric kettle vs stovetop kettle on gas, the gas is more energy efficient. I have a stainless steel stovetop kettle, £18 from a good indy cookware store and it's still going strong. Mum liked it so much she got one, too.
I'm currently spending 60p a week on my gas stove and that includes breadbaking, other ovenish things, and lots of tea-making as well as the regular cooking, so can't be bad.
And, as we're in a hardwater area, the electic kettles have a fairly short shelf-life even with regular de-scaling. Plus you free up a bit of counter-top to use for other things.
Right, better go poke my supper. If it screams, I guess it isn't cooked..............:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

:rotfl:pops. people really buy that stuff?? i suppose they must do.
more money than sense. I can't remember the last time I bought a beauty product. I wash my face in just water and the rest of me gets a quick scrub with shower gel. fake tan? my skin has a 'glow' from being on the lotty in all weathers...it could possibly be rust
kidcat, sorry about bunny
ginny, hope your tablets kick in quickly.
my brain seems to have been fried by DD2s party yesterday. it would have been a lot more fun of the parents hadn't all stayed. they got in the way and made too much noise! The kids were great, but i'm really not sure that i like their grown ups very much.
went to mum and dads silver wedding party today, they invited so many people they had to have it in two sessions. they used it as a fundraiser for smiletrain (DD2 was born with a cleft lip and palate) and they've raised over £200 today
It's DHs uncles funeral tomorrow
have set crickley hall to record because i'm too tired to stay up, have a headache and i'm getting a cold.
oh and just adding on my bit of good news
the workouts are paying off. my friend measured me after just 5 days and i've lost 1 1/2 inches from my waist, 3/4 from each arm and 1/2 from each thigh. she's fun to train with but i am aching every single day. it should start to ease off soon (i hope;))
edit. i agree, unixgirl, that basket is fab!freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Still catching up, sorry about the passing of the family pet Kidcat...my rabbit many years ago really was more than a pet she'd go to her hutch, come in the house and stretch out in front of the open fire or jump onto your lap and go to sleep. She really was domesticated bith Mum and myself cried at her passing.
Lisakay my Mum was quite light on makeup and until really ill looked much younger...one item she really believed in and used most of her life...Pond's Cold Cream.
I hope all goes as well as it can for tomorrow's sad occasion...thinking of you and your family...

I've been skimming along, so apologies for anyone I miss.
Lovely basket Unixgirl, that seems like it would be a very soothing and productive hobby.
Sorry to hear about the bunny Kidcat. I only found out a couple of years ago that my childhood pet bunny had passed away.... mum had told me the vet was taking care of him... I guess I was just gullible. Hope your littlies are coping.
Congrats on the inchloss Lisakay, it's lovely when workouts pay off.
GQ, we're in a very hard water area and I was fully expecting us to go through kettles at a rate of knots, but we got a breville one with a concealed element, and so far it's been going 5 1/2 years and it's fine. Would definitely have another.
MrsVP, sorry to hear your back is on the fritz. Have you read Sarah Key's Back Sufferers Bible? I got it from the library when I bulged 2 discs and have been (touch wood) pain free for 3 years thanks to the gentle exercises. Father in law swears by the book, he recommended me it, you can get sort of evangelical about it when you read it!
Ginnyknit, sorry to hear your arthritis has flared, hope your meds kick in soon.
Sorry if I missed anyone, but hugs all round.
I'm doing fine, just tired and look a bit like a teenager having come out in zits (just thanks to having been so run down).Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Evening all,
Just checking in after a flying weekend visit to my old mum. She's down in Yorkshire and I don't think I have ever seen so much water lying around with nowhere to go. I feel so sorry for folk further south, who have had it much worse. Has anyone heard from KatieOwl - I know she was helping her flooded neighbour a couple of days ago.
We took my mum's Christmas shopping down to her (she came up by train a couple of weeks ago and did it all up with us), sorted her computer and her TV aerial - and in return have returned ladened down with a lovely fruit cake, some quince jelly, a pair of size 8 knitting needles and some DK wool. So I am making my first baby jumper from the pattern in the local church magazine. Apparently they will be packed up and sent to Uganda, where a lot of the babies get sent home from hospital wrapped in newspaper because their parents can't afford anything else. It certainly makes you stop and think.
Kidcat, sorry to hear about the bunny: but well done you for the inch-loss. Sounds like you are definitely going to feature on your pal's website!
Lisakay - I hope the funeral isn't too bad tomorrow. We're heading north to a cousin's funeral on Tuesday.
Sleep well everyone and I hope Monday isn't too grim for us all.0 -
Hello everyone, just popping in quickly before bed to offer some hugs. My SAD is kicking in so most evenings I'm semi-comatose, but I've had a good day today and got a lot done. I know so many of you are going through much worse. I will light a candle before I get into bed and say a prayer for you all.
I have done a terrible, terrible thing. I bought a dark chocolate reindeer from Aldi as part of a friend's Christmas present. I expect you all know what's coming next ..... let's just say it was delicious .... :rotfl: .... and I will be re-visiting Aldi later this week ....

I've done that to my own kids smiley! Great to see you posting.
No sign if the rain yet. It was supposed to be heavy from 8pm. Hoping its not going to be as bad as predicted. I really don't want to walk in it

Isn't there something in it that helps the SAD? You could call it medicine if you like

fuddle - have a look at this on the environment agency websiteEdit: met office have increased our weather warning to Amber for tomorrow. I need to go work out what is expected where I am. What can I expect to happen in an Amber rain warning area?
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/31618.aspx
It tells you where the warnings are for etc., and you can put your postcode in to find out if you are in an at risk area.
Hope you can stay dry and safe.
