  • Morning everyone, what an 'orrible day!!! The rain has cleared us now but we have a lot of deep puddles and standing water on the patio. At least He who knows and the Lurcher managed a mostly dry walk this morning,so that is a relief.

FUDDLE - Well done getting the littlies into the same school, it's a bit of a treck but they'll both be together which is the main thing. Do you know if there is a facility to leave bikes at school, and are the roads you have to use to get there safe for them to take their bikes if you walk with them? That would make it an easier journey for them perhaps? We use NIKWAX - TX.DIRECT WASH IN to reproof our jackets, I get it from Millets and it is under £10. That will do about 3 reproofings and you just use it in the washing machine, so easy to do and very good as a product, really works.

Am sending big HUGS to everyone wether they need them or not, just because I can and because it is one of those days when everyone needs one really - so HUGS ALL ROUND on their way!!!

Chin up all, we're here for one another all the time, as it should be, Cheers medears Lyn xxx.

Thinking of all you in flood risk areas and those of you who are just plain old damp and miserable.

I'm sending you all a nice virtual horlicks (or tea for those who are not yet converted)

I made banana coconut muffins today. Nothing fancy, but they're pretty good (whizz up 3 overripe bananas, 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 100ml milk, a splash of vanilla with a blender, add 1/2 cup dessicated coconut and 1 1/2 cups self raising flour, bake 25 mins at 180 or until skewer inserted comes out clean). I iced them with buttercream and dipped one in dessicated coconut. Then I ate one (though I may regret it later, it was tasty at the time). It was the first thing I've baked in 5 weeks I think, was trying to make the most of the last tablet I had!

So much sadness and worry this morning, even for people we don't know. Poor cows :( RSPCA would be your best bet I guess but, oh what do you do?

Had a little misery myself this morning. DD got to school (eldest) this morning and was in tears. It's pouring here too and all comes to all she has holes in her shoes and her tights were wet. She didn't want to say anything because we told her we would have to be very careful with money this month. I walked home and got her dry shoes and tights. From now on if it's raining the girls will be taking their wellies. I really don't care whether there's room on the pegs for a carrier bag.

I'm wet through. My waterproof is not waterproof and I'm miserable... and about to do it all again in 40 minutes.

Our job on Saturday is to source waterproof trousers for the girls and I and a ski jacket for me. Hopefully the shoes DD has on, although not school colours, will last till my pay comes in. Money is tight but the move money is there. Christmas is a concern but we'll manage. I've bought some things already.

Update on my tax. I have finally received a P46 through the post from county hall. They said they will send it off and therefore i'll be taken off emergency tax. We shall see. I think it's too late for this pay.

Were in for a rough few days with the weather. Hang in there everyone.

Fuddle, look on ebay for waterproof trousers and jackets for the girls. I got a set for about £10 when dd was smaller, I would send them to you but they are to fit a 12 yr old so would be too big :(
I promise that I will do my best.....

Sending hugs to all in need, and boy are there a lot of you. If theres anything I can do for anyone let me know.

McCulloch it brought a tear to my eye too, what a lovely couple - talk about triumph through adversity. they have made that cabin a lovely home -with help from friends and family, I think thats how we are all going to survive. I can see us all posting bits and bobs all round the MSE country to help each other.

Fuddle Lidl had waterproof trousers with braces on last week - MUm got some for DGs. Hope they have some left.

  • I'm sorry this is a completely O/T rant but......

I'm trying to read a text-book from the library for work: and some idiot has written and under-lined stuff all the way through it.

Admittedly it's in pencil - but I'm finding it so off putting so I'm having to go through and rub stuff out. Grrrrrr:mad:

Don't they teach people how to use and respect books these days.

Re the cows and sheep - the farmers will know which fields are prone to flooding and will check them every day once or twice. And I hate to sound cynical but I know farmers - cows are £££s on the hoof and they will make sure they're ok if they possibly can.
We have dry but grey and cold and a severe weather out for tomorrow again. Ahh the joys eh!

probably not. I can remember being horrified when I saw turned down corners. My father would have gone mad if I had done that.

Stuff like that sticks doesn't it. I still have pockets full of rubbish because we were never allowed to throw rubbish in the street.

:) Oooh, that's one of my pet peeves as well. I think people who deface books, particularly library books, are barbarians. I once lent a paperback to a pal and saw her reading it with the front cover doubled back under the back cover as if it was a magazine.

I couldn't help my reflexive squark of horror and she looked baffled when I said Please don't hold the book like that She couldn't see that her habit was breaking the spine and curving the cover. And I never loaned her another book.........!

If I find turned-down pages on the library books, I have to unturn them and also I have to rub out pencil marks whenever I see them.

I once asked a library the weirdest thing they'd ever found left in a library book and the answer was a rasher of bacon (cooked). The mind boggles............

Been seeing some awesome and scary pics on the web of the floodings and wishing those in the soggy bits well. Been raining for most of the past 2 days here but fairly lightly. Just dank and chilly outside but it could be so much worse and I'm counting my blessings.

Right, just waiting for another tradesman, then once they've done, I am at liberty for the rest of the day, and will hit the c.s.

Have a good day, GQ xx
