Here I am at Incheon (Seoul) airport waiting for my flight. I am very much looking forward to being home but not looking forward to the weather. It has been lovely here - last time I got a typhoon  Though it is definitely autumn - the beautiful colours of the trees tell me it is so - it feels very much like spring. Whether it is the light or having a bit of warmth in the sun, I don't know. I am told the UK is decidedly wintery.

I have very much enjoyed my two trips here (as i said to my students, it has been my honour and my pleasure to teach them) I will be happy to not go too far again for a while. I have no more work trips to far flung places in the pipeline and nothing at all away from family until May. That is absolutely fine with me.

The Korean people are some of the kindest I have ever met - but my goodness they are wasteful. Buildings heated to 24 or 25 degrees  they were horrified when I said my house was 19 :D So much food at every meal and you aren't expected to eat it all, I cringed at how much must get thrown away. Televisions EVERYWHERE. People watch them on their (huge) phones on the subway (Samsung of course ), in hotels, on the subway, on the sides of buildings. Everything lit with neon lights, I assume 24 hours a day. And the cars...... So many cars, when the metro is fast, cheap, clean and safe. Mental.

I did rather get addicted to croissant broken up into melted chocolate from the chocolate fountain for breakfast, though!! :o

I have suffered dreadfully from jetlag - I have flown long haul 4 times this year return and it seems to be payback time. Poor old me, eh? I know, i know.....

    :rotfl:
I wanna be in the room where it happens

savingqueen. Naughty children don't hit out at headteachers. Naughty children know exactly what they're doing and why. Naughty children are in control and know their limits. It sounds very much so that your little one isn't in control. My heart goes out to him, and you because you both must be very concerned, scared and confused. Stories like this make me want to get back out there and help the little ones who are struggling, by help I mean giving the children space, time and strategies to cope, not expect them to follow rules by he letter.

I'm off on one again. Busy day ahead. love to all. Oh, weather warning here for rain tomorrow, which is something. Still waiting on a weather heads up for winds though.
  • we are in an amber rain warning here and it has been hammering down all night. The roads and lanes will be very bad and there will be floods everywhere yet again.

was moved to tears yesterday, so many good caring people about. On local news, a small family lost absolutely everything in a house fire and they didn`t have contents insurance. People have been going through lofts and stores for them but they have no home and a very very poorly, badly burned 3 year old. Step grandad has been whizzing round getting things done and you can see that his heart is breaking. They now have local private garages full of everything they might need to start again

SQ he doesn`t sound naughty at all, just unable to express what is wrong and very frustrated. Maybe now he will get the help he needs to draw him out. It sometimes takes a crisis

Mrs LW thank you for gift food tips, will be doing exactly what you recommended

Kittie - what a heart-warming story. An awful tragedy, not only to lose everything, but to have a child suffering with burns. But so wonderful that local people care so much. Thank you for sharing that

Morning everyone, have woken up with the worst headache ever. I had a sortof headache last night, but went straight to bed when i got in from work. I think its because ive just done 7 days of lates and i usually work 4 max in a row. With all the unemployment why cant they recruit anyone here?? We have had a vacancy for nealry 6 weeks. They interview, offer the job and then .... nothing they dont turn up. Its so damh annoying.

Have been asked to join DD and her friend who has little one aged 18months to go out on monday with them. We are going christmas window shopping, just to have a browse around and a treat of luch somewhere. I get to play pretend nanny for the day!!! I used to take my DD and her friend to collage everyday so shes one of my 'extras' ive picked up as my kids have grown up.
Have got a lovely steak pie from the reduced section in mns, was £2 but will easilly do 2 meals for oh and dd.

Softstuff fingers crossed it will be alright.
Kidcat is it night terrors with DS8? My DS used to get them terribly, absolutely frightened the life out of me the first time, and the second time we were on the M25 so it wasn't much better. His eyes are open and he looks and sounds absolutely terrified by something but he isn't awake. He always got them when he was poorly or very tired. Has pretty much grown out of them now, or at least they have mellowed a lot.

Morning All, I am so tired today and sore (joints). OH was snoring (loudly) within a few minutes of getting into bed last night so he got a swift jab in the ribs. I ended up finishing the book the OH had bought me, not what I would have chosen (fiction story about 2 ladies going through IVF) and I don't think OH would have picked it if he'd realised. Its been shoved to the back of the bookcase now its been read.

Off tomorrow for OH's second op. He's off tomorrow and friday. I can't afford to take friday off although a long weekend would have been nice. Both of us are temps so don't get paid time off.

Its my Mum's graduation on friday and trying to think of something I could get her. Something small. Thought about a scroll (as in graduation scroll) charm for her bracelet. What do you think?

Hugs to those who need it, cuppa and choccie for everyone else.

Possession - I think it is night terrors, DS14 has them regularly but DS8 only seems affected when very stressed or poorly. He has spent the night alternating between crying and screaming, and then jabbering away. Am absolutely exhausted :)

Its horrid out today, and we are not that badly affected so can only imagine how bad it is in the worse hit areas.
I have just walked in from the school run, wrapped DS8 in blanket and took him with me, but as the weather is so vile traffic is standstill all over. I need to leave in just over an hour to pick up DS14 so its hardly worth taking my boots off :)

Byatt - could you email the RSPCA instead? or if you think there may be a serious danger maybe a call to local police station - they will have the right number.

kittie - its those sort of stories that goes some way to restoring my faith in human nature :)

Just popped in & read the last couple of pages. Oh so many people having a tough time with health or families one way or another - it really doesn't seem fair, but then life never is. Sending hugs to all who need them.
On another note - I've just had some lovely news. A friend who I've known since my teens is getting married. Nothing unusual you might think but there's a story.........
She was engaged in her twenties but her fiance died so she came home & lived with her parents, taking care of them into their old age. She's always been very fit & sporty & met the son of her mothers friend who was also sporty. They got together about 12 years ago but she wouldn't marry him 'cos he was younger than her & she said she didn't want to be a burden to him in her old age!! I went to see her on Saturday to take her birthday card & she's just rung me to say they're getting married on a cruise - she was 70 on Sunday & I'm so delighted for them both - a real happy ending:happylove
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

So much sadness and worry this morning, even for people we don't know. Poor cows :( RSPCA would be your best bet I guess but, oh what do you do?

Had a little misery myself this morning. DD got to school (eldest) this morning and was in tears. It's pouring here too and all comes to all she has holes in her shoes and her tights were wet. She didn't want to say anything because we told her we would have to be very careful with money this month. I walked home and got her dry shoes and tights. From now on if it's raining the girls will be taking their wellies. I really don't care whether there's room on the pegs for a carrier bag.

I'm wet through. My waterproof is not waterproof and I'm miserable... and about to do it all again in 40 minutes.

Our job on Saturday is to source waterproof trousers for the girls and I and a ski jacket for me. Hopefully the shoes DD has on, although not school colours, will last till my pay comes in. Money is tight but the move money is there. Christmas is a concern but we'll manage. I've bought some things already.

Update on my tax. I have finally received a P46 through the post from county hall. They said they will send it off and therefore i'll be taken off emergency tax. We shall see. I think it's too late for this pay.

Were in for a rough few days with the weather. Hang in there everyone.
