Hugs where needed and Tawny - tootle away on that trumpet!
Got hurty brain ache now as have been on a full day Makaton course and it's a lot to take in, got the next part in 2 weeks and homework and practicing to do in the meantime. I have quite a bit of Makaton as my dad was head of a special school so grew up with it but this is the first time I've learnt any formally and it has really filled in some gaps.0 -
Cheaps you've dillied and dallied for so long as to whether you should get help or not. You have not let anyone down, your family or no one. It's medical. For some reason, some of us can't get the correct signals to the brain to help us function normally. For some reason. It's not a blight on you as a person misses ok? Any word on tablets or not? You know my love/hate relationship with them. I love them for what they have done for me, but hate that it all goes down hill when I try to cope without them
Got word back re: schools. Girls are both in a decent Primary school in the good area so very relieved but unfortunately it's 1.8 miles away. I know I can walk it, I just don't know if it's too much to ask of the girls at 3.30 on a night. Time will tell. I can but try. At least it's sorted and we're all happy.
Stiltwalker I've been debating whether to take up a makaton course in order to make myself more employable. It's on the plan, if I can find a way.0 -
Well done Tawny! And good news on the school Fuddle, a relief they both have places without a fight. Do the girls have scooters? Might be easier than walking ...0
-
Fuddle - The Makaton Charity website has lots of info http://www.makaton.org/ and a limited amount of free resources and not looked myself but apparently there are lots of clips on Youtube. The cebeebies website has lots of free stuff in the Something Special section. It can be really useful for lot of kids - you can find the beginners course from about £100, sometimes less, but maybe stating an interest/willingness to learn and a setting would poss even pay for training (or further training) as and when the time comes - you certainly sound like you have all the other skills needed for working with kids with additional needs from other stuff you have said.0

:T Good news about the girls getting into the good school, Fuddle.
Re the distance, I wouldn't think it too far based on personal experience and that of other people with children of the same age.
You could look on it from the POV that you will be helping them to get an excellent form of gentle exercise, which will improve their cardiovascular fitness, stengthen their growing bones and generally give them a break between the school day and their home life. And a bit of healthy exercise will help them to sleep well, won't it?
Being you, they'll be well-shod and cosily-dressed and their schoolbags will be comfortably-balanced so as not to tire their backs too much. I was astonished to find out how far you can walk a 3 y.o. if you do it at their pace (and feed the ducks en route) and it's a lot more than a couple of miles.
Been out just before closing time to the Magic Greengrocer where Mrs G allowed me to exchange one fine poond for 6 huge beafsteak tomatoes, 9 bananas, 8 satsuma-ish thingies (never can keep up with all the variations of small orange-y things) and a large pepper.
There may well be a partridge in a pear tree in the bottom of the bag. I feel a pasta dish may be called for, the rest of the makings are in the storecupboard. Nomnomnom............
ooooofff, very tired now, long day. Laters, GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks for all your love and support xxxI have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar0 -
Cheapskate - well done for being brave enough to go to the doctor, it isn't easy to do but you have done and you can feel proud of yourself for that. we are all human and often those who always seem happy and coping are putting on an act. Life would be easier all round if our society worked differently. Actually I admit I have struggled with similar feelings all my adult life too and only when things reached breaking point did I get help - best thing I did - but the last few years have been managable but only because I can cope with the kids and house (or work and house) - I am still too scared to try and fit in paid work as well in case I have another breakdown. We are here for you whatever and whenever.
Tawny - great news and well done! DH is also doing AAT level 3 this year (and finding it very hard poor love)
Well after trying to pull myself together, I have had another thing to deal with this afternoon. I got called in to see the headmaster as there was another 'incident' with DS2 wrecking a bookshelf basically and being totally defiant, so bad the head was called to intervene. I was able to put on my calm, what can we do about it front but inside I just wanted to sit on his office floor and weep. I have no idea what is going on for DS2, DS1 is a model pupil and our home life is very normal and calm (any extended family problems have little impact on our sons, we make sure of that). I am struggling to make sense of it, this time last year he was chosen to be Joseph in the nativity because of his good behaviour and being bright.
Anyway the head said all the right things as did I. He had no idea DS has been having problems as last year's awful teacher said/did nothing to support him and wrote a glowing end of year report. Current teacher is doing her best and is approachable and DS also has a learning mentor whom he can see when he feels angry but unfortunately she wasn't in today. The head will discuss things with the staff he is contact with and call me back for a meeting by the end of the week.
I wish I had gone to see the head last year but I guess I felt I couldn't bypass the teacher and it was just a phase. I won't make the same mistake twice. I know there will be some parents at school who will judge me but I know it is not our parenting that is "at fault" but tongues will wag and I wonder if the lack of party invite replies is because of DS's behaviour at times. We have had a few yes's so enough for a little party anyway.
I need to speak with DH tonight when the kids are in bed - he had better accept the situation and be supportive - I am fed up of the "it's just his age" line - something is wrong and we can't bury our head in the sand. DH is worried I know - about DS2 being "diagnosed" "labelled" etc but it is what is it and there is no shame in getting all the help you can to help your child. I will not have my very bright boy labelled "naughty" and written off. Its his birthday on Sunday and it all feels so wrong somehow. And here was me worrying about the cluttered house and party bags a couple of days ago :rotfl:
well all behind with dinner and the kitchen is stacked with dishes so better get on with it

My goodness, there is so much grief and pain here today. I want to find a magic pill to take it all away from you. It's a great relief that people can come on here and let off steam knowing that they won't be judged. It sometimes helps just to put things into words. There are too many to name but great big, soft woolly hugs for you all.
I'm trying to finish my patchwork patterns before our last class tomorrow. I won't be making 'bow ties' again anytime soon, I can tell you. I'm sure mine aren't right - they're more 'frilly scarf' than bowtie.
Mar: Welcome aboard. I'm still feeling strong but experience tells me that it won't last. Have you ever read "Only fat people skip breakfast?" It's been my inspiration before and I'm hoping it will be again. I'm not too bad with sugar (most of the time) but my downfall is bread. I would live on sandwiches and things on toast given half a chance. I am trying to restrict myself to one slice a day and eating Ryvita if I must have something with my cheese (another weakness), but it's really not the same.
Greenbee: Any tips you have will be gratefully received.
Back to the patchwork.

SQ, just what you don't need, eh?
fuddle, glad you got them a place. we always use bikes or scooters for school, bikes mean we can cut across the field scooters mean we have to walk round. wheels make it a lot quicker.
cheapskate, well done for having the courage to confront the issues. you are now on your way to getting it sorted. feel better soon x
Did spanish(ish) pork in the slow cooker for tea so just had to boil some rice up when we got in from school. girls polished it off and have saved a portion for their dinners at school tomorrow so no butties to make.
DD1 is curled up on sofa watching funny yellow people on tv and dd2 took herself off to bed half an hour ago. she doesn't like these dark nights and mornings. she's just like a minime.
early nights for all of us again i think...well if i don't get too engrossed in what 's going on on here or fb (or pinterest now too)
eta. i'm another who's had a mri head scan, they found something but it was only small and very lonely(my brain). apparently they play music, but i couldn't hear it for all the clanging and banging. noisy but not scary.
also, the only 'diet' i#ve ever got along with is S.W. took me a while to get my head around it but then found it very easy. back in the groove now to lose the last half stone to get me to target before christmas.freecycler and skip diver extraordinnaire:cool:0 -
Just a word of caution to all of you regarding water bottles....
News reader said that as so many people are in fuel poverty water bottles are being used more to save on using the heating, and to check your bottle and get new ones every 2 years.....
Due to a lady suffered serious burns because her bottle split, whilst she was watching tv wrapped in a blanket with the bottle, beings she was under the blanket they say the bottle made her burns worse...
So please check your bottles and if you are worried buy new ones, because they are not too expensive, also make sure you buy bottles with the kitemark........Im sure gonna check my bottles tonight, actually I must admit I didnt know that the good ones are kite marked, its not worth getting burnt for the sake of say £5.00........Sheila.....0
