stiltwalker - can you get your local IWIST team to lead a CAF for you? Or if you have a good parent partnership they could lead a CAF too, agencies are more inclined to treat CAF meetings with respect and turn up (here at least).0

Smiley, the bad effects of Metacam normally occur after long term (ie months) of use. Could just be something simple like a UTI?

Mculloch, boy would I love to be let loose on that chap on a nice long beach for a pipe opener. Can't do jockey style any more though, knees have had it.!
I currently have a heap of 2 greyhounds lying on my feet snoozing off their morning toast, one of which explains my user name. She is called Aria and her tail is a seperate entity to the rest of her body, to the point where she now only has half of it left as she hellicoptered it around too much when she came out of racing and bust the end off. A few hundred quid of vets bills and a re decorated house (blood splattered 7 foot high up the walls, looked good for halloween though!) later she now has half a tail. It now waggs round in circles even faster as there is less of it. :rotfl:
I had a burst of energy last night and cleared out the 'dumping' room from when we moved in so it is now my craft room with only crafty stuff in it. Now the spare bedroom is full of boxes of stuff to sort out instead.:(. Can see a few trips to the charity shop at this rate.
Love greyhounds they are such big sooks. Mum and I make coats for the retired greyhound trust. My alsatian I had growing up had the same tail problem, the less she had the more she moved it. Finally she was left with a stump (more what you would see on a dog with a docked tail) and if she wagged that she shook her whole back end! It was lovely, she went everywhere with me so if we separated at all she would go nuts when she saw me.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. It was a CAF!!!!! Lead by Inclusion Officer and she, the head of the nursery DD goes to (athough at time was yet to start) and myself turned up. Appologies from paediatrician as she was in court (ok, prety good reason) but no one else. Going to do this one actually at the CDC rather than at the Surestart as that way I can hoik them out of offices and into the meeting if necessary!!!
ETA: NOt sure what IWIST stands for but around here it's the Inclusion Oficers from Integrated Services who organise the CAFs amongst other stuff.0 -
I would guess that Iwist is the inclusion officers(we just call them IWIST), I cannot believe they missed a CAF - very naughty indeed, yes do have it somewhere you can grab them if need be and maybe insist in having their email address and email them reminders.0

ARIA - A lady living in our road has adopted an spanish ex-coursing greyhound this year. He is absolutely georgeous and just what she needed as she lost her husband a couple of years ago. He is very wary of men and quiet natured, very gentle and loves his mum to bits. My DH has had quite a time in getting him to come near, they meet in the mornings when he is out with our boy. Last week , the new boy actually let my DH touch him and took a treat from his hand, a real breakthrough for the dog. He is becoming more confident with time and good handling and will actually come forward to me now and ask for a cuddle. It's so lovely to watch him open up to people, like a flower gradually blooming. He is a lucky boy and his mum is a lucky woman, it's a happy story!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0

New physio has already promised that he'll come as long as he's not elsewhere and at the very least will send a full report. He's turned up to other things (orthotics etc) so do actually believe this.
What really got me the most was not that they didn't come (our paediatric services are highly stretched -resources as always) but that not one of them bothered to send appologies let alone a report which could have been helpful in our planning for starting at nursery. It often feels like that because I am a confident and resourceful parent with family support (allbeit my parents 50 + miles away) and useful knowledge (dad was a special needs school head) to call on that it is assumed that we need less support. I shouldn't have to do it all, but it doesn't seem to matter how loudly I shout - my kids are happy, healthy and progressing well DESPITE little intervention - just think how well they could be doing with more support! Actually I'm not sure they really could be doing much better but it would make my life a heck of a lot easier if I had more support to help them.
Just been having a play on turntous this morning - will be applying for DLA for DS as soon as his report and referrals are done and he should get MRC - really don't want to be any more benefit dependant than we are already but been playing with the figures to see if DH could drop a few hours so we could between us do more 1 on 1 with the kids - it's a possiblity but we'd be quite a bit better off each month if he stays full time so would be able to afford a break away more often, maybe more couple time if we can sort babysitters for meals out etc. Swings and roundabouts really - just need to decide what is going to do us as a family the most good.
Sorry for chuntering - I know some of you have bigger stuff ATM and more immediate stuff (going to be a few months off anyway, the speed that everything seems to move  , before we can even think about it.)0 -
STILTWALKER - Helen if you can't say it to us, we're not the people I think we are. It's such a lot for one couple to cope with day in day out even with family back up, hats off to you both for being the best parents you can be. The very least the powers that be could do would be turn up for meetings, not crucial to them perhaps but so necessary for you and the littlies. I have a pointy stick sharpener that I'll willingy lend you if the need arises. Kick some derrieres medear and make sure you're wearing heavy boots when you do!!!! Chin up petal, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Stlitwalker - I hear ya!! I have just had a call from our allegedly impartial and independant carers centre - asking me how I am coping, questions like - how is your sleep? well I get a couple of hours, so you would say your sleep was good then? Errr no were you not listening, I said I get a couple of hours. Righto, have you asked your doctor for some sleeping pills - err no I am up with the kids, the point is I need to be awake! Right!!
Can we help in any way - actually yes, I have been really wussy and still not applied for direct payments which CAMHS have advised me to, can you help me apply - well do you have a social worker ? No. Well you cant have them then it is only for people who already have a social worker, its down to the SW to see that there is a need.
And its only for people who are finding it difficult to cope -
I really felt like slamming the phone down - how difficult does it have to be for people like them to see how blinking hard it is.
Sorry for rant, am just incredibly upset by it all and feeling stupid that I even dared to suggest that I may be entitled to some help. I was made to feel awful that I might possibly be not coping and that by looking at it I was robbing services from those who "really" need them
This is why I never ever call them, they always make me feel like the worst mother in the world and am now blinking crying again.0
