Meme. It's not fair, it's really not. I do a lot of shouting at God at times like this. There are so many things that unbelievably not right. I don't think that it's fair that some people have so much money that they lavish it on stupid things while others can't even feed themselves and their children. I don't think it's fair that I can't stop myself eating too much food while others starve. I think that it's totally unfair that my dear friend lived the healthiest life you can imagine, iron discipline as regards food and lots of exercise died of cancer in her fifties while lazy, indulgent me gets to live to her seventies without ever spending a night in hospital or having any illness worth mentioning - ever.
And it's unbelievably unfair that your DH's family should suffer the way they are suffering.

You must be devastated so rant away, lots of hugs to you and your DH.

PS. I don't suppose that God actually selects people to have cancer or be born in drought ridden places. I think most of these things have their base in some human activity, but it doesn't make it hurt any less, does it?

    I'm babbling. Time for bed.

I'm sorry to hear your news Meme, it isn't fair.

We all find our comfort in different ways and I'm glad that you have yours and also that you can give your husband a real good hugging too.

    I am sorry too Meme,
If we have a faith, it will be tested at some point in our lives and all the questions you ask will be asked. That does not make it any easier. Probably harder because you feel alone and deserted and at a time when you need it the most. Even those who work in religion have their times of doubt.

I know many years ago when my Father became seriously ill the story of Job was quoted...where everything possible seemed to be sent his way but he never lost his faith, I also remember the saying(I forget who said it)that God will never give you more sorrow than you can cope with. Though I can quite understand people still asking why.

Greater people than me have not found the answer...all I can do is say is that I am thinking of you and your OH through this difficult time...

    A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

    Thank you.
I think there is a quote in Paradise Lost which says that above all creatures man is given reason. I too believe that man's inhumanity to man is the cause of most of the worlds woes.
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

Sorry to hear your bad news, Meme. Life does seem so unfair sometimes. They say you are never given more than you can cope with - but I doubt that is true. Actually I know that it isn't - my poor BIL was testament to that :(

I have been awake for 3.5 hours! I seem to have the jet lag before the flight. What's the betting I'll be late for work now :D Busy day getting organised. Catching up the washing so OH doesn't have to worry about that, filling car with petrol, actually going to work, renewing library books, cleaning bathrooms - cos they won't get done while i'm away. Hoovering and dusting might have to wait. Some admin things need doing - some payments and cheques to send. And packing. I know, I know it's hard being me :o

Did just have a lovely soak in the bath though - there has to be some compensation in being awake so early - and I am ready for my mid - morning coffee ;) I think there will need to be a lot of that today.

    Have a nice day all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

GQ, excellent savings on the electric and gas, how do you do it? Even in summer I can't get my electric down below £7 pw. I'm sure something is eating electric here, and it's not me!
:) Dunno, hun, I have the following in my home eating elastictrickery; desktop PC, 6 low energy light bulbs, AA rated fridge, A rated countertop freezer, washing machine and intermittant use of a sewing machine. I probably iron for about 10 mins a week. Have a small radio-CD player, too.

TVs are energy-hogs, as are hairdryers and anything which heats up, basically. As told to me by a sparky. Do you have an electric kettle? I switched to a stovetop one on the gas stove and it was one of the best things I ever did, domestically.

It's shaped like a dome so has a huge base and my stove has one supersized burner so it boils enough water for my 1 pint teapot very very quickly.

Oftentimes, I'm just chilling with a book under one low energy lightbulb and the only things using the leccy are the fridge and freezer and the router. Those LEDs must be using summat. HTH.

:( (((meme30))) that's wretchedly hard. Your poor family. All best wishes to those affected for a full recovery. My Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago this Sept and it's a devastating blow, I know I was in pieces, and it's a life-changing phone call.

There is often a sense of injustice in how the health cards play out, as well as fortune in general, I find. We don't get what we deserve, we get what we get.:(

That's a bitter pill that I've choked on in the past but I'm more mature and more philosophical now. I think our difficulty is partly made up of the concept that we are in control of our affairs and that we have agency in all matters. Things should work out as we intend and a healthily-lived life should be longer than an unhealthily-lived one. Virtue, whether dietary or morally, should be rewarded with all good things.

In RL I've known people who've chain-smoked for 60+ years and never suffered a day's illness, and a man who dropped dead of a heart attack in his forties, having led a life 100% free of all the recognised risks. You can only play the averages and hope for the best.

Perhaps cultures and historical eras where the response to difficulty was a shrug and a belief that it was God's will and that there was something good behind it, even if not apparent to those suffering at the time, may have had an easier time of it, psychologically, than our egotistical culture of the present.

Who can know? We can only live each day as it's dealt and do our very best to support each other through the trials.

Meme I am sorry to hear your news. Some families do get more than their fair share of suffering. I hope your sister-in-law's breast cancer can be treated successfully. xxxx

Tessy is ill. I gave her metacam (doggy painkiller from the vet) for a fortnight to try and reduce her arthritis inflammation whilst I looked for an alternative remedy, having tried two already that didn't work. She has developed a 'tic' and last night she wee-ed in the house for the first time ever. She also vomited in the night. I am terrified that I have damaged her kidneys by giving her the metacam. I will never forgive myself. I knew it could have side effects but recent blood tests showed her kidneys in perfect working order so I thought she would be OK, and it was only a temporary measure. I am waiting for the vet's to open so I can phone for an appointment.

I don't feel like at all like a smileyt this morning.
