The issue is that nuttyp's daughter and fiance ASK for money repeatedly and that they threw a complete wobbly when told no.

That is rather different to parents offering support and it being gratefully received.

I dont think anyone is saying not to accept help, As i stated, My partner & I have got alot of help from selected family members on each side, But with us, Its all give & take.

Like on Saturdays, Normally we take OH grandpops to town & will assist him with getting out, Buying any shopping, Or just keeping him company.

OH helps his mum & dad with house decorating ect.
I think the subject behind the conversation was more about children who just assume its their god given right to HAVE items at their parents expense.
OH's brother is just like it, He does nothing for his family at all. He's brought bailiffs to his mothers front door putting debts in her name (Suspect his silly girlfriend is just as bad) So, Your advice about a wake up call was more about these type of people.

  • Different set of circumstances altogether JPS, it's one thing to accept because it's reciprocal and done entirely without expectation and another to get high horsey with overstretched parents who would help if it were possible but aren't at all in a position to do so. Your words say that the biggest thing your lovely parents have given you is thier unconditional love and anything else from them was given with love too, so feel happy, it's OK!!! You are right it is lovely to be able to help if you are in a position to do it, and NUTTYP and her OH have already given the unconditional love, and still are giving it they just can't at the moment give financial help, and there's nothing wrong with that either, and if ever circumstances change and there is spare income, I'll bet they'd be the first to offer, life's meant to be good if it's possible isn't it? Ever the optimist that's me!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

Quick question for all you gardeners - Does anyone grow their own potatoes? If so, Is it easy enough to do with a small garden?

I can't believe I'm eating Danish Blue myself:eek:Not a cheese I would buy often but have tried it.

I can't decide if 4pm-5pm is too early to reduce items, its ok for me as I live nearby and I am able to go that early. I sometimes hover to see what they put out. I did take away some lean lamb mince and two mini chicken breasts with stuffing, sausages, bacon and gravy for at least half price.

The mince will do a few meals and I can take one chicken breast and use it in another meal so that seemed reasonable.

It looks like it is going to rain, in some ways I hope it does, it would save me needing to water the hanging basket and tubs...:rotfl:

I do Princess - just started last year with the first I ever grew as an adult. I think as long as blight doesn't strike, spuds are easy peasy. Stick in a spritted spud, earth it up as it grows and about three months later, you have lots of spuds!

I have some potato bags that I bought from £stretcher but you can use any strong tall-ish bag (some of the supermarket ones are great and cheaper than most purpose made bags).

put about 15cm of compost in the bag, place potato(es) on top and then about 15 cm of compost on top of them. As the sprouts come through the soil, gently add more compost to make them grow up through it. That gives you tuber-bearing stalks.

I grow 2 or 3 in a bag. Good luck!

    :) Evening all.

Thanks to alltrustgone and maryb for their info. I did know about free eyetests via the employer when you have a job role like mine, but I get free eyetests anyway (consultant for my weirdo health probs says have to have annual eye tests anyway) and I have a voucher worth £60 off, which I am very grateful for.

I've been shortsighted since I was 12, then added astigmatism in my twenties and now have started into varifocal territory. Opt-wallah says that your eyes' lenses get less flexible as you age and respond less well to the muscles trying to bring things into focus.

She thinks it's pretty good I've made late forties without needing them thus far, and I can recall that I was told about 4 years ago on an eye test that we'd need to be thinking about varifocals in a year or two so it's almost like I've beaten the average.;)

Eyes, check; one on each side of nose, khaki green and deffo bat-eyed.

Been to work today and am slightly harrassed by Stuff. And IT probs. Should be a law agin IT probs on a Monday, it makes a bad day so much more pleasurable. The only reason I don't have choklit is that I was too tired to go into the shop.

SuperGran came over for a natter and collect the trews which I had shortened. This time last year, she'd've been doing them herself but her arthritis got really bad late last year and she hasn't got the best use of her hands.

She's stoic, tho, and she had me and other good neighbours of the Far Side, like a few blokes who'll help her out with stuff inc jar lid removals and other things.

Glad you had a nice day oot, kezlou and fuddle, it tickles me pink that you meet in RL.

(((nuttyp))) so glad that the row with your DD and fiance has blown over and hope that this has been a wakeup call for them. Sometimes I ask my folks to get something for me as they have a car and its bulky (tinned food/ potting compost) and bring it when they come next time. When I go to pay for it, they're often, Oh you can have that on us but I insist on paying for it, they've done me a big favour by getting it for me, I can afford it or I wouldn't have asked for it.

Didn't get to the allotmentino, was too weary, but will attempt it again tomorrow. I've noted a pair of trainers on sale which are the same as the ones I bought 18 months ago, and which are nearly worn out, so will pedal up there and then on to the lottie if I can muster sufficient juice.

:o See, I'm full of good intentions, but the bod isn't always up to delivering on them after 2/3rds of a day at work.

Hokay, a little interwebulating then I'm going offline to read a book whilst horizontal on the sofa then an early night. Love and peas, GQ xx

I do hope they always do these reductions. It really helps. Hope OH finds something worthwhile.
