Yikes Pooky that's a very painful combination :( Glad he has a good neuro team watching him as thats what gets left out usually! X

Just returned from the dog ramble, met two lovely guys with a working cocker nearly fainted when Rosie was vaguely sociable with them..she loves all dogs but is so shy of people its embarassing. It's part of her breed to be aloof with strangers and she just ignores everyone two legged apart from us!

Hung the washing out while OH has his feet up on the sofa (!) quick cuppa then orf to the kitchen to put some rolls on then out the garden. *sunshine* :j

Thanks for the lovely welcome back, and so nice to see familiar names.
Mrs L totally forgot about the preppers thread - must hasten over there and join in - such an interesting discussion always

Ginny was thinking of you a couple of weeks ago - I attended a legal seminar through work about ways of challenging the bedroom tax.Hope you got yourself and OH sorted, but if not please pm me!

Fuddle you're doing the most important job in the world - investing in the world's future. I was a full time Mum/housewife for over 20 years - only went back to education and then work in 2008, and then only because I found myself single - although I do so love my job. OS for me is not about going back to the old ways, but about preserving the essence of those days, in learning to be more self reliant and having skills to make every penny squeak! then when you want to treat yourself you can. For me it was about being able to drop everything and have a day out when OH had an unexpected day off, or enjoying a snow day without having to stress. I have a fantastic relationship with my grown children, and I put it down to just being there for them over the years.

    Afternoon all

Welcome aboard to the newbies - it's a bit of a madhouse round here at times, but a lovely one and you couldn't wish for a better bunch - always someone with a useful suggestion or a cheering virtual hug when you need one.

Having a quiet day today as kids are worn out after nursery yesterday. Pretty worn out myself really - had DS's CAF follow up yesterday and - don't quote me on this (lol) - it actually feels like we might be getting somewhere! Then got back from that and the guy was coming to sort the pushchair - yes the new one - we have had 2 screws break on us so they sent whole new side pieces to replace them all the way from Germany. Well the guys got here to fit them, opened the box and they have only sent the wrong blasted colour - silver when we have the black frame!!Fuming is not the word!! To have paid all that we did and to be messed about by them like that is so not on - the guys fitted them (not their fault as they are the UK - oop North - middle guys) so at least we are now fully functioning again without having to twiddle around. But they will have to order some in black as it looks dreadful.

We also had to order a new fridge last night as the door is falling off the small fridge!! Can't really complain as it has done 2 1/2 years and it was only £20 off fleabay. Decided to push the boat out and get new this time though and got a good bargain which is coming on Tuesday. Will just have to prop the old one up til then as I have far to much to fit in the one!

Essay coming on well - got up to 1000 words last night so half way there now! Want it finish by tomorrow night really as it would be nice to get it out of the way before the weekend.

Hope you all ok - hugs where needed - X

Wave Hello to AOT and Princess

I have finally been diagnosed low thyroid in the last few years so do not use Kelp but found the poor summers and dark winters were getting me down and started on vitamin D3 from Amazon which seemed to help.

Our wooden coat stand snapped under the weight of all the coats the other day so I ordered a cast iron one which arrived yesterday. All the coats have now been sorted out and I am getting them put in the washing machine as it is a good drying day.

Huge pot of butternut squash, sweet potatoes and red pepper soup is in the Magic cooker for tonight, the YS chicken has been cooked for late lunch and packed lunches etc and yesterday's bolognese has been turned into a large lasagne ready to go in oven later.

    Mrs L

I am beginning to see what you mean about the sheer quantity of food produced and if it were only the two of us then I would need to start freezing some of it in individual portions. Just now there are five of us and DH can polish off masses of soup or stew etc at lunchtime. With all the gardening he is doing he keeps getting thinner (I don't :o:o unfortunately).

Hugs to all and don't let it get you down.

    Hello everyone,

welcome AOT and Princess, glad to have you in our support team. :)

    welcome back wcs :)

Well done pops with both bringing home your mum's ashes and the house clearance (if you lived nearer, you could come and sort out my house, would have to pay you in cakes though!) Onwards and upwards eh?

Mar glad you have lots more :j Just brilliant to hear I'll have to join you :j

fuddle - you are doing the best for your family and don't you forget it!

stiltwalker - glad you have "wheels" even if not everything matches for now!

Realised I haven't posted in a while (talking just a few days really!) and getting withdrawal symptoms so I'm back again.

Generally things are fine and dandy chez savingqueen's. Just wish DH wasn't so swamped at work, he is bringing home more and more work and has his final 2 exam papers in a couple of weeks. He is either at work/college or doing work/college stuff here or too tired to do anything but sit on the PC or watch TV. Can't wait til his course finished end of June. He has booked our 10th wedding anniversary mid 2 exams and we will spend the day together while kids are in school AND we have a babysitter to go out the following eve. Will be our 1st night out together in a year. Oh and DS9 is being, how can I say politely.... challenging, testing boundaries and my patience. Roll on the teenage years, think it will be me flouncing out of the door the way things are going :rotfl:

Back to my volunteer training after my big chat a couple of weeks ago and met some fellow trainee volunteers for the first time. All good until the very end when we had to do an exercise on what groups we belong to (you guys were mentioned but I didn't say the website even, just said a fantastic and supportive online forum :A). I was the last to speak and when it came to talking about family, I burst into tears. Probably did me good but felt a bit silly even though the tutors were great. There are some tough cookies on my course who are good at covering up their emotions. I think I prefer being sensitive even if my mascara ran!

Ok late lunch over, just time to hang the washing out, sort dishes before school run, even a 2nd cuppa if I'm lucky

ps bigJenny, glad you liked the sweet and sour recipe

    sq :)

Welcome back WCS, glad you're feeling better.
    And welcome Princess and AOT.
Sadly DH has had to be signed off work as he has started anti-depressants and they were zombiefying him (should be on the SHTF thread!). He's been signed off for 2 weeks which is as much or possibly more than he's had off sick in his entire 20-odd year working career. Just today he's said he thinks they might be starting to work, which would be great. He started them 2.5 weeks ago. He's on a 12 month contract and I suspect this has ruled out any possibility of it being renewed so it will be back to the job searching in November. I'm hoping he feels improved by then though, as he's worried about never being able to hold down a job again at the moment. He's having counselling for his anxiety (at great expense we can ill afford, but if it works it will be worth it) and the counsellor has suggested that he will never be completely better as he has suffered from it all his life. Myself, I'm not sure this was an especially helpful thing to say but I guess he's the expert.
We're working on running down freezer stores at the moment as we have 3 freezers (a leftover from the catering business) and we really ought to turn one off.
On a happy note I've just got a Kindle through work as I'm in publishing and increasingly proofs are only downloads now so I needed one. It came today and it's like Xmas!

Pops I have an Aussie barometer which has a similar list. It consists of a piece of wood with a string attached. I put it away a while ago so the only things I remember that were on it was "if string is wet it is raining" and "If string is horizontal it is windy" :)
