Hello everyone. I hope its ok if I join in.
I've just had to leave work because of ill health - arthritis, diabetes, anxiety, depression - you name it!!! There is just me since my husband died 3 years ago and I KNOW I'll struggle to survive but simply could not have gone on at work. It wasn't actually the job but the scarce and erratic public transport (very) that got to me.
Will look forward to getting to know you.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
I can sympathise with you AOT, I generally have problems with transport too...and a condition that can floor me quite easily. Each day is different.
Welcome...
Regarding the talk of vitamins earlier etc...

I keep buying peppers but never seem to use them up after doing so...must try harder..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

OH is doing my head in...
Pooky if its not too intrusive a question is OH's problems orthapaedic stuff with his bones or more muscle related? I cannot recommend Stanmore highly enough for spine related things I wonder if it'd be worth getting a referral there for a second opinion if you get no joy? They have one in Stanmore and one in London ( RNOH) just ignore me if thats where he's under anyway! Hope you get something sorted XX
Kez I use B6 and B12 as somewhere in my dim and distant memory that was the ones recommended for brain function..ain't done me a lot of good as I'm still scatty but they help DS3 immensely
Sorry for my rushing in and out chaos has taken over as usual and chasing my tail a bit at present although I am getting loads done by running around like Taz on speed :rotfl:0 -
Hello WCS lovely to have you back, go out in your garden and enjoy the sunshine. Welcome too to PRINCESS87 and AOT lovely to have new folks join in and if we can help in any way we will, you only have to throw the problem at us and one of us is bound to have an answer, come on in, the water's fine!!!
Can't remember if it was on this or the preppers thread but we were talking about small pasta shapes and the prices having gone up enormously, I was in B & M this morning and they have 1kg packs of SITONI pasta hoops for 59p, which would do the same job in soups and casseroles, seems a good price, so I got 2!!!
POPS well done, another step taken, another hurdle passed, you're getting there aren't you?
Have a good one everyone, super sunny day here and we're going to enjoy it in the garden, Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
I watched this documentary just now and explains why some people get lost in a bygone and OS era.....

Also these posts are very interesting....

Oh Molly I loved the you tube vid. Funnily enough I was walking round Aldi this morning with my painted toe nails and Primark 'pearl' bracelet and earrings and that what the heck woman... Call yourself (or rather monnagran called me it) Earth Mother. But the 50's housewife looked all glam shopping didn't she?
It is interesting because I do feel very guilty for not bringing in any money into the house... and living in a new build with gloss white kitchen cupboards - well there's no feeling of rustic in my life at all.
I am a housewife and don't at all mind that label but society has moved on I feel and even I was thinking that the way those families lived were play acting at life.
I guess you can have old fashioned values and lifestyle in the modern era. Well there's no guessing as its what I'm doing. I still want to do more.
Welcome back westcoastscot, I'm thrilled to see you posting on here again and welcome to our new posters! So pleased to have some new faces to talk to.0 -
WCS hello again, lovely to hear from you. you enjoy this sunshine while you can.
New people :j welcome to our lovely crew. Princess, you have made the biggest step by realising where you are and starting to do something about it. I can recommend Step Change direct for sorting out your debts. MSE recommends them, thats where I first heard about them and they saved our sanity, they dont charge you for helping and are sensitive to peoples health issues too.
AOT look forward to hearing about you and your pennypinching. I warn you though MSE is fattening :rotfl: especially this thread as the recipes people share are yummy. You need to try Twinks hobknobs too, the recipe is in the recipe index. Freezing them to stop you eating the entire batch doesnt work as you can eat them frozenClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
FUDDLE you add value beyond calculation by being at home and making things and stretching things by being inventive. I would say that housewives work as hard as people who go out to work, and when you think of all the different hats we wear in terms of the different areas we have skills in, it always amazes me that people don't value our role in life more than they do!!! What you do is give your family a much better quality of life on what you have available, and give them standards and values that they wouldn't ncessarily have if Mum just got everything ready made from the SM. Value you, I'm sure they do, and when the girls are grown up they'll remember and it will be good memories, money cannot buy those, only love and happy times of Mums making, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

I’m wondering if I could possibly join..?
Abit about us:-
OH is the only one working at the moment. I’m suffering with depression, stress & anxiety.
This has now thrown us into debt, lack of household funds.
During the time I was left untreated I was in a complete daze and allowed our bills to become unmanageable therefore now, we’re in the solid brown stuff.
I have been refused ESA because apparently my partner is a high earner. (Under £200 weekly) & now been told that I need to try and apply for DLA. Which I done 4 weeks ago but have been told this can take up to 8 weeks for a decision to be made.
This has now woken us up completely.
Right now, As I type I’m a wreak, We have hit rock bottom. No food in the house, Up to until yesterday we never had a kettle, Bills are unpaid, ect.
I feel totally ashamed. How does anyone else manage to get out of bed when they are in a situation like this?
This forum has now become a lifeline for us. We now coupon, buy YS items just to make ends meat.
Sorry for the sob story, Just I feel this thread and its posters understands what its like to be at the bottom. I need some inspiration & support which reading I see this thread offers.
Welcome
Your partner needs to check what support they can claim for you as a couple (WTC, CTB, LHA etc) by checking on www.turn2us.org.uk.
DLA should not affect that (I think but check with the benefits forum if you are feeling strong as there are some benefit baiters on there). If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
D&DD - his issues are neurological due to the pressure being applied to the spinal cord (cervical spinal stenosis with myelopathy and lumber spinal compression). He's under the neurosurgical, neurological and neuropsychological teams at Kings (best in our area so we've been told), but thanks for the Stanmore recommendation x
Lovely sunny day here today but really windy. Got DH up this morning, Got DD2 to school and went back to bed for an hour, very much needed. Now about to set off to the vets with fluffy black and white kitten as her back legs are playing up again. My Dad seems to think it could be her glands need clearing out (Blugh) so we shall see what the vet has to say. She's asleep in her carrier basket waiting to go, she's taken a mouse and a toy on a stick in with her, she obviously wants something to do on the way!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W.
