There seem to be a lot more cases of shingles about at the moment, perhaps that's why they are bringing in the shingles vaccine for those in their 70's. I seem to recall my GP friend telling me that they didn't introduce the chickenpox vaccine when the US did because a) it was just after all the chaos surrounding MMR and b) because exposure to CP seems to strengthen many against shingles, so eliminating CP would make it harder for elderly people.
However my 8 yr old DD had shingles last month and it was really nasty. I am wondering how long the huge scar it's left is going to be sticking around.

Thirty Six hours before the return visit of the HA and I am starting to panic that all will not be tidy when they return...what's been taking the most time is sorting out documents and deciding what to keep and destroy and the use of the shredder slows tidying up.

I phoned today to see if I could buy some extra time(the bank holiday weekend)but they never got back to me so I'm just going at it as much as I am able...

Now two bedrooms, passage, outhouse, hall, lounge, dining room, bathroom and toilet are tidy...

The front garden is tidy and the tubs and baskets have flowers in them.

Luckily my gardener was at a neighbours today and he is going to take my rubbish away and he knocked the back garden down with his strimmer. So the gardens are ok.

So I'll just get back on and hope it all falls into place...

  • We've just had a planting session in the garden and put out trays of petunias, helichrysum, busy lizzies, bedding begonias, sweet williams, asters and some more tagets in the borders and we've put up the frame and netting in the veg bed and planted cavolo nero, brokali, red cabbage and curly kale and He Who Knows is currently putting some beetroot seedlings in the warm bed in the polytunnel. We've got some more grow bags today (the local nursery has 10% off on Wednesdays for pensioners) and will put in some sweet peppers, some chillis and some more sungold tomatoes in the greenhouse. We've also put a wigwam of runner beans in the back garden and planted climbing french beans and early peas up the net in the polytunnel, phew!!!!!! busy, busy, busy!!! Going to have an easy cook supper tonight and just do Linguini with a stir in pasta sauce as I had a couple in store that need to be used. Absolutely shocked, yet again at the hike in prices in T*sco this morning, when did fresh Tuna start to cost £17 a kilo? that is outrageous even the reduced section was more money than I can or would be prepared to part with, the wastage must be enormous with prices the way they are now. It seems to go up and up with every visit, I think I may have to give them up and go elsewhere, I have an Al*i easy to reach and a L*dl that we have to use the car for, but I think the cheaper prices would more than outweigh the fuel costs,I can't see things improving anytime soon either, can you? Hope we have a good growing season and I can preserve all the extra crops or next winter might be a stark and bleak one, at least we can get a delivery of logs in now as we've sorted out all the storage cradles and consolidated what we have left, so it could be worse, Cheers Lyn xxx.

New neighbours are awful (sorry I know I shouldn't be so judgemental)

I was trying to reverse on my part of the drive (shared and bloomin' tight) where they were all stood standing watching me drive nearer. On my side you know. i didnt know what to do, ask them to move or keep on driving! They knew I parked as saw me leave! They parked their second car in front of my house meaning DH has had to park against the rough ground well away from our house. Just back from dog walk and seen that the car is leaking oil all over the pavement. No wonder its not outside their house! They also swear in the garden where the girls are playing. You know when you just know things are no longer going to be happy and peaceful? Well I know it!

I'm worked up and upset. Got another 6 months as will be saving to move again. Aw bliddy ell! Need to move by 2015 for secondary school catchment area but thought I had an extra year.

Ho hum, might not be as bad as I think. I will be making sure that the ll knows the oil is not mine though :(

Wishing you well Fuddle, seems we're having house problems for different reasons...I look at the rubbish and keep thinking there is no way I will be tidy by Friday but surely it can't take 36 hours...

If I feel I won't manage. I'll bag what's left...put in the garage and just ask for their understanding...and explain just how much I have cleared.

And once again go at it at a leisurely pace...going to work overnight and see what I get cleared by morning...if I have made headway I'll rest if not I'll continue.

Seems life is intent in throwing a spanner in the works...

It may be better to be less apologetic and merely point out that with limited bin collections, you can only remove a certain amount each week. As long as there is nothing to attract rats in the bin bags, there should be no trouble.

Its not food...think the kitchen will be finished by midnight, if I get rid of what I put in the porch earlier today when shredding, all I have to do is some dusting/polishing.

The bit on the landing if I think I can't clear it by Friday morning or they don't give me extra time over the weekend I'll bag it and put in the garage. And keep filling the wheelie bins but in the meantime get my gardener to collect it and take it away quicker.

But its not in the house...

    Hello all *waves shyly*

I am a bit of a lurker but love you read all the goings on with you lovely ladies (and gents).

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening.
:) Nice to meet you, and please keep posting.

Mar, this weather is getting beyond a joke and I had plenty of fun experiences in my 5 years in Scotlandshire, including walking around a corner in a certain city, getting picked off my feet and slammed sideways into the railings. Bearing in mind that I'm not far shy of 6 foot and built sturdily, it was scary. I was bruised from hip to knee for weeks and glad to be; if the railing hadn't caught me I'd've been blown into the heavy traffic.

Stay safe and warm. Shall we ready the emergency sweetie helicopter drop? Are there enough teabags on the premises?

  • GQ do you know about the Candy Bomber, an american pilot who flew over East Berlin during the blockade and dropped candy bars for the children, he was always in trouble for doing it but just kept on anyway, maybe we could arrange something similar for MAR, there must be an airforce base somewhere close to her, we could bribe them with excess courgettes if we ever get them to grow, might that work???
