cant get a job so annoyed

Three hundred people chasing one cleaning job? That is disgusting!
Such a sad scenario only bears out, again, what I have been saying about just how bad the unemployment situation is now. It's no wonder many people now have given up and are turning their thoughts to starting their own business.
Think of the positive - one person will get that job, what is stopping you being that one?0 -
What annoys me is the way that us Brits have got our hands bound by qualifications, experience, work history etc. Employers won't touch brits with a barge pole. Even building companies insist we brits have a CSCS card and as many other associated qualifications as possible to barely earn the minimum wage.
When it comes to the poles, it's a different story. No CSCS card, £12 per hour and as many hours as they want. This year it's getting worse as the Romanians and Bulgarians are coming over rubbing their hands together and there are many of them already here doing it. Again, no qualifications and they're earning mega money.
Don't believe it? - Here is the proof.0 -

The 100s applicants per a job is rubbish really. Since the last recession internet dominants the job market. It takes 10 mins and 100 clicks to submit your CV directly to a 100 jobs. Most people have a bland CV and send it to any and all jobs regardless of whether they are suitable. In the old days people had a harder task of finding out about vacancies and would be more focused.
So yes more people apply for the jobs, but people are also applying for more jobs. It evens out.0 -
I recently got a job at a very small Co-Operative food store, and it involves quite a lot of heavy lifting of crates and big packs of products. I too find myself coming home with really bad back pain each day, I'm 21 and like you I was also somewhat fussy towards the beginning of my job hunt(which lasted almost two years). Like I said, I do get back pain from all the heavy lifting at work and come home covered in cuts and bruises. I'm a small female therefore I do have some difficulty lifting heavy things, but I am really appreciative of the opportunity and consider myself lucky that I have finally managed to get a permanent job especially so close to Christmas. Therefore, no matter how much I dislike it, I intend to try and stick with it for as long as I can, at least a year or two minimum because I really need the experience and I know how difficult it will be finding another job considering how long it took me to get this one. I guess my point is that it may take you a while to realize it, but at times like these you can't afford to be picky, employers will know that most candidates are desperate for the job so that only makes it more difficult. You'll potentially be competing against people who will be much more desperate , eager and enthusiastic than you and practically begging to be employed, so if you're actually serious about getting a job in retail, then I'm afraid you can't really be too fussy about it and let go of jobs so easily. Good luck.
I apologize in advance for any spelling errors or bad grammar as I'm typing this from my phone. :happylove0 -
You're living in cloud cuckoo land, mate, if you think there are "jobs" out there. Have you seen some of the so-called "jobs" that are available? Well, HAVE you??You "can't" get a job. I am fed up hearing this excuse from people. If you want a job you will take anything there is going. I've worked in chip shops and petrol stations before when I was a student to make cash. They weren't the most amazing jobs but if you want money start looking harder. Don't expect to just wait for a job to fall in your lap.
If I lost my job today I would find a new job tomorrow even if it involved cleaning toilets. Its not hard. There are jobs out there.0 -

What are they if not "jobs" then?
Sounds like you think they are beneath you.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

What sort of "jobs" are you talking about, Truegho?Mortgage when started: £330,995

I'd hazard a guess Truegho is referring to low/zero hour contracts, commission only positions, and jobs that when you look further it's a generic agency add who cannot actually offer you work or give you just 3 or 4 hours work a week...
ETA: also have seen voluntary positions in jobsearches, as well as 'apprenticeships' that offer a meaningless qualification to justify paying you £2.65 for a job anyone could do.0 -
Yes there has been a flood load of 'apprentice' jobs around here too. Everything from waitressing to customer service. I've even seen an apprentice bar job advertised too. All offering meaningless NVQs in some jibjab thats meaningless to anyone other than the employer who gets money for offering the apprenticeship.0
