ours should go on today or tomorrow, have just finalised the Hip and they need to finish the energy report thing - off to find a post to nail my sign too (and wait for the gossip from the neighbours to begin :rotfl:)

I think we will - or at least go back with a counter offer to see if they accept.

We are in no rush and are finding it really hard finding stuff to buy!!!

I hope you have lots of interest!!!! :) We didnt get a sign - maybe we should just to stir up some fun!!!?????;)
  • well I've activated the sale and so now we're on the market - seemed such a simple thing to do for such a big event!!

now need to nail up my sign (we've lived in the street for 20 years, in 2 different houses), so am expecting the door bell to go a few times over the next couple of days !!

out of interest, how long did it take for you house to appear on RM?
  • Has anyone had any experience of using @home estate agents. They do the same thing as house network but are slightly cheaper.
My only concern with them is there website is a bit hard to find, they have a banner saying @home the low cost way, but the website address is actually the tagline thelowcostway.co.uk , although I suupose the main reason for using one of these servies is to get it on right move etc

We've given our estate agent their notice and hope to be putting it on with an online agent in 3 weeks and I'd narrowed it down to these two and had decided on @home due to the price difference, but after reading all the positive reviews about house network I'm wondering whether it's worth spending a little bit extra and using them instead?
  • I did look at them briefly, but what annoyed me as a buyer, which is how I found it useful to judge, that when I search on my chosen area, they don't have any properties (that's not a problem in itself) however they show me a selection of houses they have.

I am looking to move within Hampshire, they show me houses in Manchester!!

that seems a bit cr*p and that put me off! I would rather they said they had nothing, than waste my time!

Yeah I noticed that. My thought was that if I was looking for a house on the internet I'd use the likes of rightmove rather than house network or @homes site, so all I'd be using them for is the listing on the main property websites.
  • that is true, but remember if you have a sign then it will have the web address on it.

I have chosen to have a sign as I know there is no-one locally ringing people to tell them my house is for sale, I know that as I drive around I am constantly looking at for sale signs, so figured it was a local presence.
  • Had some estate agents round to get an idea of valuation - could not believe the difference: £259k, £310k, and £385k!
Hard to believe they were all looking at the same house.

Hard to believe they were all looking at the same house.

So did any of them tell you WHY they valued it at their figure? Did you ask?

Did you look at any current houses for sale in the area, or of similar style? Did you look at any recent sales or historic sales?

How much time did each spend in your home?

Were they all local to your town or city?

What did you talk about with each agent?
  • we had the same; 6 agents between £325 and £425!! I knew our house would be hard to value as it is a one off, plus we have extended it so it is an older house with a modern layout.

The agent who said £425, was just trying to buy our business, I know it's not worth that much, the £325 was hoping for a quick sale I reckon - she tried to say she'd done market research and presented me with a list off RM (I had the same list!!) her comparable properties were the ones we were looking to downsize too. When I asked her advice about what should we do to help it sell, she said we should change the white bathroom suite for a ..... white bathroom suite (she thought it was green) ?!, replace all the carpets and all the internal doors. The rest said, leave it as it is, it's fine!

We chose a price within the reasonable range that felt right, it sat nicely in the RM listing and I am really pleased that a very comparable house came on the market last week at the same price and it is under offer already!
