Stuart P, I never thought of putting I accept debit or Credit cards and then just forwarding them a link to pay through nochex. I think that I will give that a go and see how well it is taken. I know alot of people want to pay on plastic for peace of mind.
yes as soon as ebay email me to say the buyer has chosen 'credit/debit card' payment, i reply with not only the card payment link buy also all others methods i accept just in case they change their mind. covers all payment options in one email.

£99 per card per day can be used for buyers paying sellers via nochex. not sure of other limits.

you can have a merchant account with nochex that'll accept any size payment aswell as international payments.

Ahh it's changed then may have to check it out as a seller.
Only used it as buyer before paid one seller and then tried to pay another a couple of months later and it said I had exceeded my sending limits and needed to get verified.
So did a bank transfer instead.

did you have a nochex account & were simply using the send money feature? if so, that limit may still exist. not sure though, never used it.

My DH collects some strange items and often via small private websites advertised in specialist magazines. I'm always astonished at how little security there is on some of these websites, it is not uncommon for there to be no security at all and to have to supply all your credit cards details on an open server. When I question the owners I am usually offered the chance to send the details by email instead, usually to an anonymous Hotmail account.

When I refuse to use unsecured sites I am always told that 'no one has ever complained before'!
    That's a bit worrying!
I had a customer who wanted to email me their cc details , I told them absolutely not, and never send them to anyone else like that either.
As long as you are relatively certain that you are dealing with a real business on ebay, it's as safe as using paypal, if not safer, to pay direct with a card.
Unless there is some massive criminal gang working on ebay to get people's card details, a seller would have no other use for them.
I am not even allowed to keep card numbers on my system, I input the details to my 3rd party secure server and in return get a reference number in case of refunds etc.
Perhaps it's because I don't sell in a category targeted by scammers like electricals/electronics, and because I am totally transparent in my listings that customers are happy to give their payments direct.
I have paid for many items over the phone to ebay sellers, it means that they are a proper business rather than a "bedroom trader".

so if i take credit/debit card payments (non-paypal), but not over the phone, i can't be a 'proper business'? how strange..........

What I meant was, anyone can say they are a business on ebay, but only a real one would be able to take direct payments.
If you can take credit card payments , you usually have a virtual terminal to allow you to take mail order payments, you do have to be a "proper" business to have a merchant account.
Although saying that , paypal now let you have a VT for their merchants pro. account (at a hefty price ), if they are as lax with their merchant acccounts as their business ones, anyone can probably get one:rolleyes: .

Just wondered if anyone has integrated google checkout on their web site yet and if so how it is working? Reading up on it it looks quite simple just to add a button if you don't have a cart system in place, and they then send you an e-mail with the order for you to process so from the customer point of view it is almost like having a cart?!

What I can't find in the google info so far is how to get my money out of google's clutches and into my bank once I have had some orders, - does anyone know? Is it like Paypal where you need to get to £50 and then you can just make a withdrawal free?

The only reference I have found to getting the dosh is
"By providing your bank account information, you can enjoy the convenience of having your payments direct-deposited. "
which implies the money is deposited directly the customer pays. Does anyone know if that is what happens?

Does anyone know how your consumer rights are affected using Google Checkout backed by a credit card?

Do you have the same protection are using a credit card direct with the store?
