I'm still waiting for the actual Nexus 4 to come out and be tested before I decide on a SIM free S3 or a SIM free Nexus 4.

S3 is around £390, and Nexus 4 around £279. Already on Virgin Mobile's £17 per month 30-day rolling plan (1200 xnet mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data). Can't argue with that!
Interested in property investment, web tech, social media, forex, equities. Also a proud father & entrepreneur of sorts.

Those other companies didn't do it for charity! Ever noticed that those very companies you're talking about aren't joining the debate against Google?

Yes their profit margins will be harmed, but will they go away completely - I doubt it. They'll still make a margin, but a smaller one.

Yeah, which in turn will mean less money to plough back into R&D, but the potential for them to be priced out of the market completely is there. It's only companies who are in a unique financial position who can weather a price war; Apple, Samsung, Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

For the price, this is amazing - although I would prefer a 32GB model. The 8GB model will probably only have about 5GB free for user storage (because of the Internal Memory partition and system partions). This isn't much if you intend to use it to store music and video.

I wonder if we'll see the 8GB model scapped and top spec upped to 32GB in a few months (as they did with Nexus 7)

Android doesn't work like that any more, what was the data partition is now part of the user accessible space, so you don't lose a chunk of storage to it.

It won't be the full 8GB, but it wont be 5GB either, probably more like 6GB if the Nexus 7 is anything to go buy.

The google is also in this to make £ as much as possible.
The Google will kill most of other companies and then increase the price. The google do not need many companies now since the os is used in many phones and also have Motorola so even Samsung days might be numbered.

Not a problem for mobile network, only need to increase the price for sim only plans.

Google make their money selling advertising. The more people who use Googles services the more money they make.

Exactly. And much like Microsoft abused its dominant position in the desktop OS market to force out competition in the web browser market, Google and Amazon now appear to be employing the same tactics in the smartphone and tablet market by abusing their dominant advertising and content markets respectively. Sadly, many people will cheer them on as they crush competition as Google are currently the company it's cool to love. The very same people are usually the ones who will quickly change their tune when they realise the damage it's caused, and they'll usually complain about it too!

Not yet, some speculation that it would go live 'til the afternoon.
