    Apple doesn't do this.
Try buying an app through anything other than the App Store on an iOS device.

Yes - Apple make money through their 'ecosystem'

Apple doesn't use the profit from the App Store to prop up their hardware business. I don't think the App Store actually makes them much money. Apples hardware has its own profit margins built in.

No, they do the complete reverse. The App store barely breaks even. Apple use profit from hardware to subsidise content. So the same concept applies and Apple are as guilty as everyone else.

Apple don't subsidise content; it's the people who sell the content who set the price, not Apple.

Apple run the app store as a commercial operation and they decide what they charge app sellers to use it. They structure that pricing in a way that barely breaks even, thus subsidising the content side of the business to promote their profitable hardware.

The amount of money Apple make from the App Store is entirely dependent on how much developers choose to sell their apps for. That in turn could mean Apple make either a loss, break even, or make a profit. Whether it does or not is not Apple's decision. That fierce competition between developers happens to work in Apple's favour is just coincidence.

!!!!!!. Why does every other thread end up with a fight about Apple products? Have any of the posters above noticed the thread title?
    Lets' keep on topic please.

Having looked at the specs and pricing of the Nexus 4, I will be giving it some serious consideration as my next phone. Buying it sim free then popping in a GiffGaff sim seems to be the way ahead as previously mentioned.

    I blame ringo_24601 and almillar entirely :p.

Sounds like a plan, if you can get past GiffGaff's lack of network robustness.
  • Frightening thought for the competition when you can buy the Sammy Galaxy Tab 2 7" and the 8gb Nexus 4 for less than £360.

Yeah if I were the likes of HTC or Motorola or LG I'd be very worried right about now.
