  • What a total joke tesco is! I exchanged my clubcard vouchers for exchange vouchers. Tried to buy online but kept getting error messages. Spoke to direct and they said i had to wait 6 hrs for them to reset??! Then it still didn' t work. They said could give me a giftcard but could only be used on direct. All the toys i wanted are now out of stock so i need to buy them instore so direct giftcard no good!
Passed on to clubcard and they said cannot do anything as they have aready been exchanged so cannot now be doubled up instore and only can be issued for the original value. I have been on and off the phone for several days wasting time explaining over and over then being passed from pillar to post. and i have pretty much now lost any patience i had. Tesco has now lost my custom, its really not worth the hassle! (rant over lol).
I'm sure this site makes me spend more than I save

Does anyone know what happens if you take something back that you paid part points part cash please?

The item I got two weeks ago is faulty so I want to return it but not sure if I can take it back to store? I got it online to be collected from my local store?

    Thanks for any help guys

I don't know about online purchases, but when I bought a couple of electrical items instore I asked about the returns policy. They said that if I returned the item I would be able to choose between having the points recredited, or having a giftcard/exchange BUT only to the value of the vouchers ie half the amount that the item actually costs. The person I spoke to did seem to know what she was talking about, rather than making it up on the spot!
Having said that, I think it largely depends on who serves you - I'm sure that in previous double-up periods people have reported different scenarios, depending on store/SA.

    Thanks for that.

Hmmm not sure what to do now. The item is faulty so I don't want to keep it. I want another one but after reading the reviews it seems as its not very good. Its a dehumidifier. I would like to pay more and get a better one with good reviews.. something I should have done in the first place!

Will pop in with it over the weekend and hopefully they can sort it out. I still hope to get double value on my points though :(

This happened to me last exchange. If the item is still showing instock you should be able to phone up for an exchange of a different production so long as itsin the exchange. However considering how long people are taken to get through you may be holding a while.

I think Tesco are a victim of their own success.

I do not think they set out to annoy customers but are having difficulty coping with the demand at times.

My worry is that they will stop doing the double up if it becomes too
problematic and that would be a shame as it does benefit a lot of people.

I agree - for Tesco the 'Exchange' promotion has been successful. They can tasylor the promotion to certain categories - especially to where they want more business e.g. Opticians, or where the 'market demand' is big e.g. Toys.
However, especially at this time of the year people are expecting this promotion, and in addition people who haven't done it before are giving it a try - unfortunately many of the latter haven't read the instructions!

What this means is that items do go out of stock:
    - you have until the 13th dec to use the Exchange vouchers (though please not a last minute rush).
    - don't fixate on one product - have a plan 'b',
    - if you have on-line Direct exchange vouchers, you are not restricted to one category - you mix them.
    - any returns, will be credited with original points.
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

thanks for the reply. I'm planning on using mine online as the £6 off runs out today. Do you know if it would be better to exchange in the groceries dept which also includes wine or the Tesco wine by the case as I understand with both you can only buy Finest wine? thanks for any help it's quite confusing
