  • I cannot believe we have had yet lads more rain today. I had a bit of a lie in this morning......then my first job was to go to the supermarket for a few bits and pieces. 2 of my sons are coming for tea tomorrow so I wanted to get all the ingredients for home made meat pie !! After Tesco I called at my local discount bakery and bought 10 M&S swiss rolls for £1 !! We will have one after our tea tomorrow and I will let the boys take home the rest if they want them. The gym was the next stop and I did an hour on the treadmill. I had 45 minutes before zumba so I nipped out of the gym and managed to get another Christmas present. Its sat on the morning room table at this moment waiting to be wrapped. Zumba was good fun and when I got home the rain had stopped so I got Sid took to the park. The remainder of my day has been spent preparing food. I have made 2 meat pies ready to put in the oven tomorrow. I have also peeled all the vegetables so they are ready to be cooked.
I am so glad I have started my Christmas shopping. All I need to get now are gifts for my grandchildren. I plan on buying them some clothes as well as toys. I will need to get quite a few gifts lined up as its my grandsons birthday 3 days after Christmas.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • Well at least the rain has stopped today !! I went to the town centre gym quite early this morning and did my 60 minutes on the treadmill. I quickly had a dart round the shops and got some cauliflower leaves from my greengrocer. Went back to the gym for my dance aerobics class which was good. After my class I went to the local interest centre and did another hour on my family tree before going home. The rest of the day has been spent with one of my sons. He is a bit low at the moment. We didnt do much except go to Aldi where we both did some shopping. I took advantage of being there and stocked up on a few things, such as cat food, cordial, tinned fish. We both then took Sidney to the park for a run round. At tea time one of my other sons turned up and the 3 of us had a nice tea of home made meat pie, mash carrots and gravy. It went down a treat and there are leftovers as well. When I put the oven on, I also put in 6 medium sized potatoes so I have a few jackets cooked for my lunches.
Anyway I am well and truly tired now so I am going to spend the rest of the night on the computer and not much else !! I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • I had a little lie in this morning - about 30 minutes extra - but nice all the same. I went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the treadmill. I then called at Primark and bought a cheap black knitted hat and some gloves. I want them just to wear when I am walking up to the gym. I have several pairs of different coloured leather gloves but i dont want to wear them for walking to the gym. They are too good. Anyway I spent £3 !! Next stop was the local history centre to do a bit more family tree. I spent £1.70 on printing but its unavoidable really. Next job was to take Sid to the park once i had got home. I then settled down to a shower, a spot of lunch and sorting my finances out. Basically when I get paid I try to sort my money out for the month. I once read that its better to put money away to save when you get paid, than to wait till the end of the month and see whats left. This has always worked for me. Today i had to pay a yearly insurance policy at £212 and I managed to put £600 in my savings account. I am hoping I dont need to dip into it this month as I am doing really well with my savings. I have enough left in my current account now for my mortgage and my bills and also money to last me till the end of November.
Late this afternoon I went to my usual zumba class which was great fun. On my way home I called for my grandson and he is staying with me tonight until tomorrow tea time
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • Today has passed so quickly. I was up about 7am with my grandson this morning and basically the whole day has been a little boy day. We went to the cinema this morning to see "Planes" which was a superb cartoon. After a quick lunch we went to the splash session at the local swimming baths. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and was really tired when I took him home at tea time. Not sure what I am doing tonight, probably nothing as I am tired. I think the swimming baths always makes me feel tired !! I am back to work very early on Monday morning so I have got a few chores to do.
Over the last few weeks I have been thinking about the "Law of Attraction" and thinking about what I would really like from my life. I have come to the conclusion that what I would like most is contentment. It is something that eluded me when I was living with my husband and I seem to have found contentment in a lot of areas of my life since being single. I know I would like contentment in the whole of my life and I will be starting to look for ways to gain this. I know that since living on my own, I have found a new kind of happiness and I really enjoy my life. I suppose I just would like to build on the happiness I already have. I just like my life being as simple as it is. Anyway.......
I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x
  • Its been a bit of a strange day today - I have pretty much stayed in for most of the day (after a flurry of activity fit thing) and really enjoyed relaxing. It was nice to get an extra hour in bed and i decided not to bother going to the car boot sale this morning as I could hear the wind and rain outside even before I had got out of bed. So I just went to the gym when it opened at 8am and did my hour on the treadmill. I then took Sid to the park for her run around. After that I have pretty much stayed in all day and its been OK. I have done a few chores such as ironing and listed 3 more things on Ebay. Thats going well as I am sticking to my plan and taking things easy and just listing a few things each week. Today I sold an item and had a nice surprise when it sold for more than I expected !! I did my usual British gas readings this morning and was a bit shocked that I had used 10 more units of electricity this week. It must me all the dark mornings and dark evenings. No wonder we are getting poorer all the time. I did have a stroke of luck today. As I said yesterday I have been reading about the Law of Attraction. Anyway for the last 2 weeks I have been searching the shops for a candle to fit in a beautiful gold candle stick I bought weeks ago from the car boot sale. Anyway this morning I found the perfect size candle in...........my garage!! Talk about the universe providing things. I laughed my head off. Anyway the candle is now installed in the holder and is in my bedroom looking beautiful. At the moment I am having a look at things a bit differently. I am going to use this winter as a means of using up lots of things that I have. For example I would normally buy new slippers about now, but I already have 3 pairs in the cloakroom, so the plan is to use them till they are ready for the bin instead of me buying new ones now. Also I have found a stash of candles which can be used up. I only need to keep one for emergency purposes, not a box full ! Also I am going to use the dark nights to read a few more books I have sat around. This afternoon I have been reading - Bundles of Joy bu Linda Fairley. its a lovely midwife story but is based at the hospital where I gave birth to my youngest son, so it a bit of nostalgia.
Not much planned for tonight as I have already sorted out my clothes, food and bag etc for work tomorrow. I am hoping that the universe shows me a way to deal better with doing a job I am not overly happy in. Lol !! I know its up to me to make myself happy at work and really I should try to be positive because I a really lucky to have a job which provides so well for me when lots of people have no work. I know i need to do everything I can to make myself happy at work. I have done this in every other area of my life so I should apply the same principles to my job !! Lets see what tomorrow brings.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • I had quite a busy day yesterday. I was awake at a very early hour and off to work. I did my upmost to be positive at work and I did feel as though it helped. Anyway the day went quickly. On my way home I called at Tesco and bought some beautiful clothes for my granddaughter for Christmas. . I bought her some skinny jeans with stars on and a cream coloured top, then a faux fur gilet to go over the top. Very on trend. I didn’t realise that Tesco did such nice children’s clothes……and they didn’t break the bank. Once home I collected Sidney from my next door neighbours then got ready to go out again. I met my friend at the local carvery and we had our tea there. For £8.50 I had a huge carvery meal plus and unlimited Pepsi which was great value. We spent a few hours just chatting and had our usual swapping session. I took her a large bag full of house magazines and she gave me a bag full of newspapers for the guinea pigs and some old towels for Sidney (when she gets muddy). I am all for recycling. I hate wasting stuff. Anyway once I got home I pretty much just jumped into bed as I was tired out.
I hope everyone had a great moneysaving day :)
  • I am glad that today is almost over with. Things were better at work.....as well as they can be I think. Anyway I was done and dusted for early afternoon. I called at the library and picked up a book I had wanted to borrow. Its called "Today is the day you change your life". Since getting home I have pretty much been glued to it ! . I know that in the main I am quite happy in my life. A lot of my life I am very happy with. Although I have only read about a third of this book, it has given me some trigger points to help me be happy with the rest of my life.
I have just been to see my aunt for an hour at the nursing home and my plan is to spend the rest of the night having a look on the internet then having another read of this book. It is giving me a lot of food for thought and I am hoping the ideas it suggests will make a difference to my life. I dont want a miracle in my life or a lottery win, I just want to add to the happiness and contentment I already have.
I had a text today from my grandsons other grandma, who is just a lovely woman. Anyway she and I have arranged to meet up and have a coffee on Friday, so I am really looking forward to that.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • I have had a rather hectic couple of days. Yesterday I had a bit of a lie in (by my standards) and then did a few chores once i was up. I have a couple of small flat roofs at home that were a bit waterlogged so I cleaned them up. The problem was that the drainage channels had got blocked with leaves, so I sorted that out !! Also did my ironing and took Sid to the park for a bit of a run round. I then went to the petrol station and filled Gladys up with fuel. I now know how much my petrol is costing me to get to work. I was quite happy with the amount. I called at Aldi for a few groceries. Next I went to the town and had a massive £4 spend. I bought some light bulbs and also some playing / flash cards for my grandson - All from the £ shop. The gym was my next stop where I did an hour on the treadmill followed by my zumba class. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I called at my greengrocer mans stall and got a bit of veg for the piggies. Once I was home I just had time for a shower and a bit of a pamper before my friend called to pick me up for our 3 weekly night out. We went to some friends house and we all had fish, chip and peas which were delicious. I also drank rather a lot of rose wine !! It was very late when I got back !
Today has been another busy one. I was up early and at the gym early. I did 60 minutes on the treadmill. I had an hour round the shops before my dance aerobics class. My greengrocer friend gave me 6 cauliflowers. i have taken the leaves off for the piggies and am using 2 of them right now to make cauliflower soup in the slow cooker. i have never made it before so I shall have to see how it turns out. I came home after dance and took Sid to the park. I just had time for my shower/pamper before going to visit my aunty (not the one in the home). it is her birthday today and i wanted to go to see her and take her card and gift. Just came back at teatime
Anyway I am planning on spending the rest of the evening googling and reading the rest of my library book " Today is the day you change your life". It is a brilliant read and is really motivating me to see things and do things differently. The book has arrived just at the right time in my life. Someone who i have known for 30 years or so (a relative) was absolutely awful to me yesterday for no other reason than he is not a nice person and that is how he treats people. Anyway I just happened to read in this book that its OK to let people go from your life who are not treating you well. Lets just say I have now pressed his delete button !!! He will not be finding his way back into my life again. I actually feel empowered now i have made the decision. I only want people in my life who are going to be nice to me !!
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
  • Well the weather in the North West is rubbish as per usual. Yesterday I had a bit of a lie in as I wasn't planning on going to the gym as I had other arrangements. I took Sid to the park then went out for a coffee with my grandchildrens other grandma. We had a lovely time and spent a few hours together just chatting. I then went to my tea time zumba class which was great fun. Afterwards i collected both my grandchildren and they stayed the night. Lets just say I had very little sleep as I was up feeding the baby a few times in the night. She is a proper greedy chops. When I woke up this morning I was tired out. Anyway my grandaughter went back to her home this morning and I went about my Saturday business with my granson. We went to the cinema and saw Monsters University which seemed ok. I didnt see that much of it because i was asleep through most of it. My grandson kept nudging me and telling me to wake up !! Anyway after a spot of lunch we wet to the town centre to see Peppa Pig, who was supposed to be appearing. Lets just say ther had been a misprint in the literature and the event was last week. There were hordes of people waithing in the town centre. Anyway I went to Wallis and bought 2 pairs of reduced earings for £4 and then went to Matalan and bought a long sleeved grey knotted top for £20. My winter wardrobe is starting to come together a little bit. I have just dropped my grandson off at his home for a few hours. I am seeing him later as we are all going to a Halloween party tonight. As I am not bothered about having loads to drink, I have decided to go in the car and just have a glass of wine. It will at least save me taxi fares. I cant say I am looking forward to going as I feel as though i have lost a bit of confidence in this area since becoming single. I know its something I need to work on. I expect to be on my own for a long time so I need to sort this out !!
Money wise I have just sorted out my gas and electric tariff with British Gas till 2016. Also I withdrew some cash from the bank to put away for my sons at Christmas. I am pretty much sorted except for some gifts for my grandson. I have never been so organised as this year.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day.:)
  • Big change for me from my usual Sunday. Last night I went to a Halloween party and ended up bringing my grandchildren home with me at about 11pm so that everyone else could continue partying. So.....this morning there was no chance of me going to the gym. I got the pair of them fed and watered then took them back to their parents as I wanted to do a few things myself today. Firstly I took Sid to the park, then I mad a huge slow cooker full of cream our cauliflower soup. I also did my usual weekly British Gas readings and paid my bill. I wrapped 3 parcels which had sold on Ebay and will need posting in the morning. I am liking selling a couple of items a week. I like the slow pace of it. Anyway this afternoon I went to the cinema to see Philomena which was a very moving story and well worth a watch.
My plan for later is to have a shower, a bit of a pamper, chill out and a bit of googling. I might even have a read. Its work tomorrow so I wont be staying up too late. Also I have spent most of the last 2 nights bottle feeding my grandaughter so I think I deserve a good kip.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x :)
