It is amazing how many leaves a tree produces, doesn't look that many when they are up there, but so many when they hit the ground:rotfl: We have quite a large garden and the neighbours and us all have lots of trees, OH has been busy with the leaf vac too, I prefer to be the one hooking the leaves out of the borders as I am the plant person and I am more careful about not damaging anything:eek:
I still have a couple of containers to sort and bulbs to plant, but need a kick up the rear to get out and do it:o
On a more positive note I have now done two sessions with personal trainer and until today have been able to walk further without pain, hoping today is just a glitch! The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Hi maddiemay - Thanks for posting. I am really pleased that you are doing well with your trainer and i really hope you manage to keep up the good work. I think going to the gym and exercising are the single most important thing that helps me stay positive (well most of the time) !!
Yesterday saw me up nice and early. I sorted out some of my funds - £300 into savings and £10 paid off my mortgage. I then used monies from my paypal account to send an extra overpayment to the mortgage. I was lucky to have another £150. Unfortunately the day turned a bit pear shaped at that point. I found a couple of very wet walls in 2 of the bedrooms at the front of my house. At this stage I think the guttering is leaking so I have arranged for it to be replaced. I didn't want to have to spend any money on the house but i cant let this damage continue. The builder will hopefully put the new gutter up next week. So......first stop was the gym where i did my usual 60 minutes followed by a dance aerobics class which was great fun. Sid was then taken to the park before i had an afternoon out at the cinema. I went to see Parkland which was really good and was about the assassination of JFK. After the cinema I went and picked up my grandchildren who stayed the night. I just love being "mum" again !!
Today I was up nice and early with the kids and i took them home at 9am. Next stop was a flying visit to see my aunt in the nursing home. Unfortunately i dont think she really knew who i was. I then called at Sainsburys and treated myself to some plum coloured jeggins. I am hoping to find a nice black jumper to go with them. Went to the town centre gym and did my usual 60 minutes followed by my zumba class. I love going to this class as I do my best to help a lady who is very challenged and its wonderful to see her smile when she holds my hand to do some of our dances. God love her.
After zumba I made my way home and took Sid to the park. I have been trying to catch up with a few jobs. My sons girlfriend gave me her "old" pram as I really need one for all this running around I do with the children. Lets just say it was minging when it arrived, but i have stripped it down and put everything through the washer. It now looks beautiful.
Now I have decided to try and pay more money off the mortgage, I feel really focused. Just by logging into my bank account each morning and making my daily £10 extra payment is keeping me on the ball. I am just going to continue to make small steps towards paying more off. Its good to look at my mortgage balance getting a tiny bit less every day ! I have been preparing myself for a few more ebay listings. I only want to have a few items for sale at once so that posting etc doesn't become problematic. I have been doing a bit of photographing and preparing some items for sale. All proceeds will be paid off the mortgage. I am just going to try and save a bit of money here and there. The only problem being that i do need to buy a few new clothes as I am miles smaller than last winter !!
Anyway the plan tonight is to do a little family tree work and maybe some reading. I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day0 -
Busy as ever Sidneysmum! Hope your shoulder is healing nicely.
Mortgage overpayments sound good. It might seem small at £10 a day but that is £300 per month!! I started to overpay mine for a bit then other things got in the way and now we are going to move so my mortgage is going to go up anyway! Still it is another step up the ladder. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Hi Polesalot - Thanks for posting. It feels good to be overpaying the mortgage. Its the only thing I owe and I just cant wait to be done with it !! Good luck with the moving house. I am sure the extra mortgage will be worth it. x
Today has been a typical Thursday for me. I was up early as usual. Went to Sainsburys on the way to the gym and bought some more of the reduced coffee before the offer ends. I actually think i have enough now ! ie. A cupboard full !! Next stop the gym and i did my usual 60 minutes on the treadmill. I had a little break to pick up some veg from my greengrocer before i went to my dance aerobics class which was really fun. On the way home I called at the local Asian supermarket and bought a tray of 30 medium eggs for £2.30 and 3 cucumbers for £1. Bargains. Took Sid to the park then put 7 items onto Ebay. i had actually listed them in draft form over the last few days so it was only a matter of posting them. One of my items has already got a bid against it.
This afternoon i went to the cinema to see "The butler" which was really enjoyable. When I got home i unpacked my bag of veg for the guinea pigs and found a head of celery and a full cauli. The piggies will eat neither so I have just made 2 pans of soup. Also I used some leftover mash and cooked cabbage to make 12 small rounds of bubble and squeak. I will freeze them and just use them as I fancy them. They will probably get eaten with a poached egg and some beans. I am doing a bit of "shopping from home" and trying to use up everything so i can pour as much money as i can into my savings and mortgage overpayments. However I have put some money aside for some new winter clothes and I intend enjoying spending it.
Not much planned for tonight other than googling and having a read. I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day .:):)0 -
Its been a bit of a strange couple of days. Things havent gone according to plan really. Yesterday should have been payday for me.......and I wasnt paid. Great stuff. I spent most of the morning on the phone and I still havent got a large amount of my pay. How difficult is it to pay someone who has worked for you since 1985 !! Anyway the builder turned up to fit new guttering at the front of the house. I hope that sorts the leak out in the front 2 bedrooms as the damage at the momnet is quite easily repairable. The plan had been to go out for lunch with my friend, which i did, but i felt completely out of sorts as I felt like i had got something in my left eye and basically it felt like that all day. I was pretty much at screaming point at bedtime. I had actually decided that if i was still suffering this morning, then I would have to go to A&E. Anyway I woke up this morning and apart from my eyelashes being completely stuck together, the irritation seems to have cleared.
So.....I did manage to have some lunch with my friend, then i went to zumba. It was the only thing that actually took my mind off the eye problem !! After zumba I called for my grandson and he was happy to have a quiet night just having his bath then reading his library books with me. We were both in bed at 9pm !!
Today has been a whole lot better. We went to the cinema to see Despicable Me 2. We have seen this before but there were no new films on at the cinema for juniors this week, so he was happy to see it again. After lunch we went to the splash session at the local baths. Two girls of 12 or so decided to take him off my hands for an hour whilst I sat in the warm water watching them play. They were very keen to be big sisters !! Anyway I have now dropped the young man off at home and have got on with a few jobs - cleaned the guinea pigs, hoovered and steamed the hard floors in my house, made a corned beef and veg pie. I want to get a few more jobs done before i settle down with my book.
Money wise things are OK despite not being paid. Thankfully through being very careful over the last year or so I can manage if that sort of problem arises. Still making my mortgage overpayment of £10 per day. I love just seeing my mortgage balance drop. Cant wait till its big fat zero !!
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day0 -
Its been quite a productive day today. I decided not to go to the gym this morning as I am back at work tomorrow and wanted to get a few chores done. I had a bit of a lie in then took Sid to the park. I then got the garden vac out and had another good hoover of the garden and got rid of a ton more leaves. Did some ironing and took loads of photos of items to sell on Ebay. Also paid my daily mortgage overpayment. Did my British Gas readings and settled up !! Next job was to cook the corned beef pie I had made last night and i also made a couple of trays of falefals to put in the oven. I had all the ingredients in stock so I was happy with myself.
This afternoon I went with my best friend for a trail round the shops. I have done most of my Christmas shopping so I just followed her round whilst she got some bits and pieces. I did spend £1 on a dinosaur jigsaw for my grandson. Instead of going in a cafe we came back to my house for coffee and a cake, so we saved a few pounds there !!
I feel as though I am really focusing on my mortgage overpayments. Although my house is not stuffed to the gills with belongings, there are plenty of things i could get without. I intend selling a few more things on Ebay and using any profits to be offset against my mortgage.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day.:)0 -
Hi Sidneysmum,
I just finished reading your whole thread and wanted to say Hi
It's been a really great read. Although our lives aren't a whole lot different, it's been really fun reading about someone who is in a totally different phase of life to myself.
Good luck with everything, especially paying off your mortgage!Saving for a House Deposit $11,159.03

ShanShan – Thanks for posting. It’s good to know that people are reading my ramblings!! I am doing Ok regarding making the mortgage overpayments. Just keep logging into my bank account every morning and paying my £10. Keep in touch, its good to hear from you.
Yesterday was work for me. Thankfully I was able to solve my monthly pay problems and some money was paid into my bank account yesterday afternoon. The rest of my working day went well for a change. After work I collected Sidney from my next door neighbour then went to a further appointment at podiatry. Instead of going home I met my friend at the carvery and we had a wonderful £6.50 carvery meal which was lovely. We also had a good chin wag for a few hours. I was really fortunate as she lent me her dehumidifier. When I got home I plugged it in upstairs in an attempt to dry out the wall where there has been a leak. Let’s hope everything is dried out soon so I can get the wall repainted.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day0 -
I just didn't get chance to post yesterday. I was at work very early and managed to finish at lunch time. I called off at Tesco on the way home and bought a bargain bottle of Baileys for £12 and used £8.50 worth of vouchers, so ended up paying £3.50. Called at my friends and we went to the local garden centre where she bought some Christmas decorations. I then went and picked up my grandchildren so they could stay overnight with me. We didn't actually do very much other than have tea then I cut my grandsons hair before he had a bath and played with his toys. I was the last to go to bed and that was at about 9.30 !!
We were all up nice and early and breakfasted before I dropped them off at 8am so my grandson could go to pre school. I then took Sid to the park before setting off to the nursing home to visit my aunty. Unfortunately it was a short visit as she fell asleep when I got there. Went to the gym and did 60 minutes on the treadmill. I had a quick trip to the shops and got some cauli leaves from my greengrocer before heading back to the gym for my zumba class. Once home i have settled down to do some jobs. Mine and my grandsons beds have been stripped, changed and clean bedding put back on. I wrapped the bottle of Baileys then set about listing 7 items in draft on Ebay. I am going to actually list them when my current items are almost sold. I am feeling really good getting rid of all this stuff. Loads more to do though. Every time i look in a cupboard i lug something out to add to the "to sell" pile. Oh....I have also kept on paying my extra £10 a day off my mortgage so feeling really good about that. As soon as I make any more money on Ebay I will be paying it off the mortgage as well !!
I am planning on taking the rest of the day easy as the last few days have been quite tiring. I plan on having a good read and a good old google !!
I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day0 -
I am getting right into ebay at the moment too. I just love seeing how many watchers I have and then watching the bids come in. Now that we are moving we are getting rid of a lot of stuff that way. It always seems to be the things I think people won't be interested in that get the most bids! I think I have made about £80 in the last month. To think I would have just given the stuff away or taken it to the tip! It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0
