Happy New Year, I hope that it is a healthy, happy and fulfilling one for you, with the difficulties well and truly in the past.

maddiemay, LeaLea89 and polesalot - Happy new Year to you all. Have a fantastic 2014.
Day number 2 of 2014 has gone well so far. I was up nice and early and went to the town centre gym. Did my usual treadmill for an hour followed by my dance aerobics class. I have really missed all this prancing around ! Came home and took Sid to the park for a quick once round. I have spent a couple of hours this afternoon listing a few things on Ebay. I still have got loads to sell. Its all on the bed in the spare room, but i just want to do it a bit at a time as packing it all up is a job I just hate. Got about 10 items listed now - 5 to end this Sunday and another 5 to end the Sunday after.
I have been feeling a bit like my life has ground to a bit of a standstill over Christmas so I am hoping to start to broaden my horizons a little bit. Today was the start of it. I went for an hours walk with my neighbour who is wanting to loose some weight. I just enjoyed marching round and having a chat. I told her i would go anytime she wants to go...so I will leave it up to her. I am not sure if exercise is her thing or not.
Anyway not much planned for tonight. Think I might just go on the internet or do a spot of reading. Spent £1.50 on some fruit today. Bought sharon fruit for a change and they were very nice. I am just trying to eat less cake and more healthy stuff.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day.:)

If you just go for a nice walk and have a good chat then she won't even notice that she's exercising. The key to exercise is that it must be something you enjoy doing and look forward to - then it doesn't feel like exercise. That's why I like roller skating :D

Keep up the good work sidneysmum, you're putting me to shame - I've done nothing this year exercisewise......:o

polesalot - Thanks for posting. Roller skating.......never thought about that !! Not sure what to do yet but i have been approached by 2 separate and unconnected people today both asking me to join the same running group. I think this is fate stepping in and telling me to do something new!! Enjoy your weekend

Yesterday was a nice day for me. I just feel so much more positive now that Christmas is over and everything is back to normal. I went to my out of town gym and did my usual 60 minutes on the treadmill. There is a regular Friday morning aerobics class at 9.30 there so I am thinking of going next Friday morning if nothing else crops up in the meantime. I called at the Aldi store next door to the gym and did what for me is a big shop - £45.17. I just bought all good stuff in my attempt to eat healthier. Loads of fish - both tinned and fresh. Also tons of fruit and veg and a bit of meat / chicken. Once I had put the food away I took Sid to the park for a run round. My boy no 3 then called round and brought me a huge bar of chocolate from his week long trip to Amsterdam!!! I have just put it in the fridge and haven't felt in the least like eating any. Once he had gone i sorted out my washing and ironing before going to my first New Year zumba class. It felt great. I have really missed the fun we have at all these classes. On my way home I picked up my grandson and baby grandaughter who were staying the night with me. My son no1 and his partner also turned up with my elder grandaughter. The little ones just played together for an hour or so before it was bed time.
Today has been a bit different. I usually take my grandson to the cinema on a Saturday morning but we had seen everything that was showing so we went to the park instead. After our lunch we went to the town centre swimming baths to the "splash session" which he really enjoys. I am so glad that I haven't taken my eye off the ball with my weight. I am still the same weight as before Christmas thank God, so I wasn't bothered about getting my swimming costume on and getting in the pool with him. After the baths I dropped him off at home. The rest of today has been spent doing some cooking - roasted a chicken for tomorrows tea. I think I might be a bit pressed for time tomorrow as I am hoping to go to the cinema tomorrow afternoon and boy no 3 is supposed to be coming for his tea. So chicken cooked early. I also have made a huge pan of BNSQ soup. Some of it will be frozen and some will be put in the fridge. Its just full of good stuff. I decided to get myself a bit organised and cut open a large pack of cheese and a large pack of bacon and split them into small portions for the freezer. Also paid my gas and electric for the week online. Lastly done some eBay packing as some items are due to sell tomorrow. Anyway I am proper tired now so I am planning on getting something to eat and getting my feet up
I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day.:)

You should give running a try seeing as you are so into your exercise now. Start off gentle with a walk/run/walk/run plan (can get them online) then gradually increase until you are running the whole route. I've been running for 5 years now and I love it. I have really missed it over xmas and new year (I only run in my work lunch hours) so my first run for almost 3 weeks will be tomorrow as long as it's not too wet.....:rotfl:

polesalot - Thanks for posting. I have decided to go to the running event this week but thought I should explain a bit of my history. For about 15 years I was a compulsive road runner and used to run 6 miles per day (at least). Even used to run on a Christmas Day!! Basically I lived to run. Anyway 5 years ago I was involved in a terrible accident which meant i was in bed for a long time recovering. Once i had got walking again I built things up over about a year and had a try at running again. To cut a long story short, i found i had trouble with my balance and it put me off going out running on my own. So.....I started to got to the gym and use the running machine (where I can hold on if needs be). Anyway now i have spoken to a few people i feel as though i could be confident running in a group, which is something I`ve never done before. Always ran on my own. All I can say is watch this space and see how i go on !!!

Today has been a good one. I feel so much more positive now its the New Year. I got up early and went to the town centre gym and did my usual 60 minutes on the treadmill. Came home and took Sid to the park. Did a bit of listing on Ebay as "buy it now" items and everything sold as soon as it was listed. I am delighted as I just wanted rid of the stuff. Did all the packing so everything is ready for posting tomorrow. Went to the cinema this afternoon to see "Last Vegas" which was surprisingly enjoyable. Son no 3 has been for his tea which was really nice as I have hardly seen him since before Christmas as he was away for all the holiday in Amsterdam, misbehaving I assume !! Anyway it was great to see him.
I am really enjoying all this healthy food I am having at the moment. I has lean bacon, eggs and home made bubble and squeak for breakfast. Lunch was home made butternut squash soup. Our tea tonight was roast chicken, new pots, carrots and cabbage. I made extra so I can have a couple of warm up teas this week to save me time.
Anyway I hope everyone is having a great moneysaving day.
  • Hi Sidneysmum, just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year! I don't reply much but I am almost always reading, I love your diary.

Christmas and New Years always makes me feel a little strange too, like my life is somehow out of control and I seem to lack motivation. As much as I love the family time I am so very glad that the whole shebang is over. Always feel great after New Years because it's like a fresh start.
