Today has been a jobs day for me.......well after my early trip out !! I was up and out by 6.30 at the town centre car boot sale. I spent £5.20 this week on the following - Halloween costume (witch) £2.50, 2 dinosaur tins for my grandson 50p, a Bayliss and Harding gift set £1, 4 children's coat hangers which are like piggies and teddies £1 and a vintage Fisher price cooker 20p. The costume was an utter bargain. I have been invited to a Halloween party and the thought of spending a lot of money on a costume was filling me with horror or worse still having to hire something. I will have to make this costume a tad smaller but hey ho, it was a bargain. I actually have a wooden broomstick in the garden as a decorative item, so that will be going to the party with me too !! I will arrive in style !! I dont know what my grandson will make of the tins but I might put some biscuits and sweets in them for him. They are rather lovely.
After the car boot sale I did an hour on the treadmill in the gym. As I had gone in the car I went to the petrol station on my way home and filled up ready for work tomorrow. After unloading my car I took Sid to the park.
The rest of the day has been spent at home. I have made a start to some cutting back in my garden and almost filled two wheelie bins with cuttings. I also packed up an item I had sold on eBay all ready for postage in the morning. I then listed another 3 items. It all seems to be doing OK. I have put everything I am planning on selling on Ebay in a spare bedroom and each Sunday I am trying to list 2 items. I actually listed 3 today as 1 of the items will require home collection. Finger crossed I sell them all. The remainder of the afternoon has been spent sewing. I have almost completed my home made patchwork quilt. Today I stitched the patchwork, wadding and back sheet together. All that is required now is for the edges to have some binding put on them. I need to buy some soon
I am going to get my work stuff ready now and have just had my shower. I might get time for a bit of a read tonight. I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0 -
I was at work yesterday and thankfully it was a busy day so time went quite quickly. On my way home I called at Tesco and bought a jumper. I am not sure what to call it actually. It looks crocheted and is in black. I will have to wear something under it…..but I thought it was rather pretty and was £8 !!! After collecting Sidney from my neighbours, I just did a few bits of jobs. I am just feeling tired at the moment so have decided to potter about a bit at home and just get my feet up. I am actually hoping that I might get a bit of a lie in tomorrow morning. Last night I ordered a length of bias binding off Ebay so I will be able to bind my quilt and get it completed as soon as this arrives. I seem to have loads of little jobs which need completing but I am trying to get something small done every day. I also finally managed to pay British gas my weekly amount. The web site had been playing up over the weekend so I hadn’t been able to do anything. Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0

Had a busy last couple of days. I went to work yesterday and thankfully the day passed quickly. On my way home I called at Aldi and bought a few basics - chicken, cat food, fruit, milk etc. I didnt need to take Sid out as she had spent the day with my neighbour and had been on a mega walk. I just did a couple of chores and cleaned out the GP`s. I decided to go to the cinema rather than stay in last night as there was a film I wanted to see and it was only on last night. I went to see "The call" with Halle Berry and it was very good. I was back home for 8.30pm so that was OK.
Today has been a bit hectic. I took Sid to the park as soon as it was light. My baby grandaughter has been in hospital and I went to see her this morning with her other grandma. We are good friend so that's nice. The baby is coming out of hospital today so that's good news also. My plans for today are to try a few winter clothes on, then later this afternoon my friend is coming to pick me up and we are having a lovely Indian meal with another couple. I am looking forward to that !!!
I am hoping to be back doing my normal routine again tomorrow. Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0 -

Hi Sidneysmum , just popping in to say how much i really enjoy reading your daily adventures, i'm a 54 yr old f/t working divorced mum with my 23 & 20 yr old kids still living at home , love them of course, but how i long to live a life of my own as i am starting to get very tired lately of trying to keep it all going here !!! Reading your diary gives me hope that one day soon i will get my life back too!!
Keep up the good work.0 -
girl at play - Hi and hope you are recovering well after your operation. Thanks for mentioning my grandaughter. I haven't seen her today but i will be seeing her tomorrow !! Our Indian meal was lovely last night but there was loads of food left.....so I parceled it all up and brought it home. My first job this morning was to portion it all up and to freeze it. I now have half a dozen ready meals in the freezer. Keep well x
thrifylynny - Hi and thanks for posting. I think i was quite lucky in one respect - my youngest 2 children left home when they were quite young. DS3 went in the forces at 17 and DS4 left home at quite a young age because he was a dad himself. I know my life as it is now wouldn't suit some people, but i just love the quiet life - going doing some exercise, going to my zumba classes and going to the cinema. I love being able to spend some money on clothes every month and keeping up to date with fashion instead of having to spend it on other people first !! Your day will come....so just enjoy it when it does !!! Keep in touch, it was good to hear from you x
Today has been very enjoyable even though the temperature has dropped here in the North West. I went to the town centre gym this morning and did 60 minutes on the treadmill. I had a bit of a break and went to see my greengrocer who gave me some guinea pig supplies. I also returned a top i had bough from Wallis. I had bought medium and it was too big, but the small size was too small. Anyway I got my £34 back. I wasn't going to keep such an expensive item unless it was perfect. After all it was just an everyday top to wear with skinny jeans. After my little trip round the shops, I went back to the gym and did my dance aerobics class which was great fun. Once I got home I took Sid to the park for a quick run then had a spot of lunch myself. My next job was a quick trip to Aldi to buy some more running shoes which were on offer today. They were £15 and are fabulous value. I have bought their running shoes before and think they are marvelous. Next stop was the library where i spent an hour doing some work on my family tree. Our local library allows its patrons to use "Ancestry" for free so that's a massive saving for me.
When I got home DS1 came to visit me as he had a day off work. We had a chat for a couple of hours just putting the world to rights. My bias binding has also arrived in the post so one I get 5 minutes I will be completing my patchwork quilt.
I am going to have a bit of a look at my family tree then its an early night for me . I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0 -
I got up nice and early today and as it was still dark and i didnt want to go dog walking, I got on with a few chores. I did my ironing and then made a huge pan of corned beef hash. Once it was light, I made my way up to the town centre gym and did an hour on the treadmill. Once I got home i took Sid to the park. After my shower and a bit of food I got on with completing my quilting. I machined bias binding all the way round the edge of the quilt and it looks great now it finished. Thats one project i can cross off my list !! This afternoon I went to the cinema to see "Blue Jasmine". It was so so, but worth a watch. Next was a trip to Home bargains where i stocked up on Fairy liquid, loo roll and tea bags. I went to my tea time zumba afterwards and had a good old dance about. I went straight to pick my grandson up after my class. He is actually tired for once tonight and has asked to go to bed. I am going to have a bit of time on the computer then it will be bed for me as he is sure to get me up at some God forsaken hour !! I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0

Today has been a lovely "Nanny" day. We got up about 7am which is a lie in for me. Did a few chores and played with my grandson before we went to the cinema to watch Despicable me 2, which was good fun. After calling home to get some lunch we then went visiting my aunt at the home. My little pal is the highlight of her day. She just shouts to anyone who will listen that he is her "baby" !! Afterwards we had a quick trip to Aldi as I needed bread and milk. I then dropped my young man off at home. I would love to keep him longer but he needs to spend some of his weekend with the rest of his family !! Tonight I have parceled up 2 items which are due to be sold tomorrow on eBay. I know I wont have time to do the parcels tomorrow so thought it best i got it out of the way. I have got a couple of little chores to do then I might have another look at my family tree. I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0

Despite the dull and drizzly weather this morning I decided to get up early and go to the town centre car boot sale. On my way I went and bought petrol at the 24 hour station. I was very pleased at the car boot sale turn out. People must be trying to sell their stuff to make some money for Christmas. I spent £11.50 today and got a fantastic bargain of a brand new steam mop for £8. I have wanted one for ages as I have a huge Minton tiled hall floor and it is a drag to get the mop and bucket out. Also steam mops are supposed to be good at reviving tired carpets. We shall see. I bought a child's loo seat for my grandson for 50p as he keeps falling down the loo !! I also got him 3 great toy cars for 30p!!!! I bought a gift box containing 3 Ted Baker items of toiletries for £1, 2 books containing halogen oven recipes 50p, and a beautiful vintage style teddy for £1. It still had the label on it !!. I was pleased with my purchases especially the steam mop. After the car boot sale i went in the gym and did an hour on the treadmill and met up with the usual crew who exercise there. Living on my own it does me good to see lots of people. I dont thrive if i dont see anyone.
This afternoon I was supposed to be going out with my friend to shop at IKEA. Anyway she cried off at the last minute. I am actually getting a bit fed up of her cancelling plans as she also let me down on Thursday. As it was a bit late to start trying to make other arrangements, I just took Sid out to the park then went to the cinema to see "The fifth Estate". It was OK actually and kept me busy for a few hours. Since getting back I have just pottered about getting things ready for work tomorrow. 3 items I listed on eBay have all sold. Two are parceled up ready to be posted. The third is a home collection item.
I have been having a bit of a talk to myself today. Although i am still slim and have stayed at my size 10 weight, i am conscious that i am eating quite a lot of junk. Now whilst I am really happy with my weight, I think the junk food makes me sluggish and puts in a low mood. I know i really need to just chuck it in the bin and get rid of it all. I know what I need to do so hopefully at bed time I will just sling the lot. I know that i need to eat quite a lot because i burn up a lot of calories but it should be good stuff rather than loads of cake. I need to just bite the bullet and sling the lot out although that sounds really wasteful. We shall see.
Anyway I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0 -
The weather has been awful here in the North West today - cold and rainy. At least I was out of the way at work until after lunch. I called at the post office on my way home and dispatched 2 eBay parcels before calling at the gym to do an hour on the treadmill. Once home i collected Sidney from my neighbour. A gentleman also called to collect an item I had sold on Ebay that was too big to post. I dont think I am going to be able to retire from my eBay sales but at least I am getting rid of things I no longer use. I might list a couple more items this week now that this batch of sales are complete.
I have just spent an hour or so looking at my family tree and also dug out 2 electric blankets. One for my bed and one for on my grandsons. I think its chilly enough to start warming my bed !! Just going to do a couple more chores then it will be an early night for me as I am up at stupid o'clock to go to work in the morning. I hope everyone has had a great moneysaving day x0
