I neg sellers all the time.
And more often than not I don't communicate with them

I buy to sell and if I can still turn a decent profit on an item I will keep it.
Plus I don't want the hassle of returning it possibly at my own expense and then hoping for a refund.
If a seller blatantly lies about the condition of an item they get a neg and as far as I'm concerned I'm doing the ebay community a favour. I obviously have seperate buying and selling accounts so I'm not fussed about retalitory negs.
(And before anyone points it out what I buy doesn't get damaged in the post)

Noticed over the years that small private UK sellers are getting worse and worse in their downright lies. Personally I love buying of the Germans who generally undersell their items.

But don't even get me started on the italians.....

if someone leaves me negative about a fault with the item or transaction without contacting me first then they get negged back for not giving me a chance to resolve

i got a negative years ago because a 99p eyeshadow set was dusty inside! after receiving the negative i asked the buyer why they had not contacted me and i said i would have refunded. buyer said they didn't want a refund 'cos it was only 99p.... so basically i was getting a negative and there was nothing i could do about it!?

my 2 recent negatives were also from buyers who didn't bother to contact me. first one from a brand new bag i sold which the buyer didn't think was brand new but the feedback wasn't left until 3 weeks after she received it. her reason for not contacting was because i didn't have a refund policy stated in my auction.

the other one was for another bag, i got negative because it wasn't real leather. the very top line of the auction description in the item specifics, a line in the middle of the description and at the bottom all had phrases such as leather look, faux leather and leather like. the buyer realised she had made a mistake and left a follow up saying it was her fault not mine and i managed to get her to withdraw it.

that is why i will never leave feedback first for a buyer, unless they have made contact to let me know that they are happy with the item.

If someone's 'blatantly lied' that's one thing. However, I'm not sure what that has to do with this situation - where the buyer paid for and received a brand new and unused item.

It's an open forum people are having a general discussion about buyers leaving feedback without contacting the seller.... not every post in a thread has to reply directly to the original post.

But mine did in a way ..
"This is exactly why I don't leave feedback as soon as I'm paid "
My post pointed out that many ebayers have seperate buying and selling accounts so on the general subject of feedback the buyers percieved threat of a retalitory neg isn't necessarily the feedback protection sellers percieve it to be.

I've never viewed it as "feedback protection". For the good reason that idiots like the one that negged me obviously aren't thinking about protecting their feedback so it's not going to influence them at all.

However I have no intention of providing good feedback to someone who has negged me, and left a very dubious complaint without even bothering to contact me to resolve the alleged problem.

As I've mentioned several times already, the reason I wait to leave feedback is nothing to do with "protecting" my own record - if I was that obsessed with that then I wouldn't neg anyone ever.

As an occasional seller I never leave feedback until either the buyer leaves it for me or if I haven't heard from them I send them this:

    Dear XXX

Youpurchased item number XX on the xx/xx/2007 and it was sent on the xx/xx/2007. I noticed I hadn't recived any feedback or mail from you and I just wanted to make sure you had recieved the item and you were happy with the transaction? You don't have to leave me feedback, I just want to ensure you were happy with everything before I leave your feedback on Ebay :)

    Kind Regards

    XXXX

those who don't reply don't get feedback - most either mail me or leave me positive feedback and no one has to my knowledge gotten offended by this mail yet :) And my grand total for negs EVER is 1 - Many years ago a buyer bought a top and I sent it - she said it never arrived and then that I hadn't responded to her mails... Never got any mails and she never replied to my mails offering a refund so left her a neg back bless her :)

For this buyer though I would leave a neg:

"Buyer never contacted to explain there was a problem - would have replaced product once returned if faulty"

I don't really see what I have to gain for contacting this dimwit. I emailed them to confirm that I'd received their payment, they replied to say they were looking forward to getting the game - so it's not as if I've been uncommunicative.

I've actually got another five copies of the game in my drawer ... if there was really a problem they could have returned it and I'd have sent a replacement.

My guess is they're embarassed because they bought it and then realised they couldn't play on their computer or something, and this is their solution.

Still considering what, if anything, I should leave in response. Am considering a neutral with a comment along the lines of "Beware - user has a trigger happy feedback finger!"

you are right, i only sell clothing but i have had similar situation where the buyer has left neg/neutral with comments like "this top was too small" as if it's my fault that they are in size-denial!

i never leave feedback first, i've been stung too many times and there are too many eejits out there, some genuine morons and some who just like to play games by ruining your feedback. i always say in my listings that i'll sort it out if theyre not happy so there's no excuse for it really.

Good for you (and that wasn't sarcastic) .
But there's plenty of people who buy and sell on the same account who never neg unless they're completely scammed.
Which is why despite everyones moans (including mine) the new semi anonymous feedback system isn't such a bad idea as it goes some way to redressing this - also the fact that item descriptions appear with feedback (big knickers etc ;+) encourages ebayers to have seperate buying/selling accounts.

Although personally I would prefer a system where ebayers were forced to have seperate buying and selling accounts.
And on any feedback left as a buyer there was an indication of what percentage of positive/negative feedbacks were left for previous transactions. So people could spot malicious/fussy buyers and take their feedback with a pinch of salt.

I am a occasional e bay buyer and have been lucky that i have never had to leave any negative feed back as all the items i have bought were as described. (lucky ?).

I would not hesatate to neg a seller if the item i bought wasnt as described on e bay and depending on how much the item cost, I wouldnt contact them anyway, as would be the case if i bought something from a high street shop, not worth the hassle and grief of complaining.

What does annoy me is the time some sellers take to give feedback and I feel some think they are a class above normal shops be it on the high street or the web. Maybe a few more negs to the ones that seem to cherish thier 100% record may kick the up their !!!!
