It's all very helpful claiming that a certain proportion of customers are on more preferable tariffs, but many of these tariffs lock people in for a specified period of time (often at least 12 months) with penalties for leaving. This means it's often wholly unsuitable for renters, whose security of tenure is no longer than the usual 12 month AST, and who are increasingly becoming a much larger proportion of the population for a variety of reasons. We are getting increasingly shafted in every monetary aspect, from above inflation rent increases to these now excessive energy bills.0

Except most of EDF's fixed customers are on on the Blue tariff which didn't have a cancellation charge.0 -
The Blue May 2014 deal has gone, replaced by Blue March 2015, much more expensive.0

EDF generates over 60% of its electricity by nuclear power and less than 6% by gas. Has its costs really gone up so much to justify a rise of 10.8% in electricity prices?0

EDF retail and EDF generating operate as separate companies.
EDF retail is losing money. It is regulated as to what price it can purchase it's energy from EDF generating for.
Rising costs are not just raw material costs, but include the huge amounts they must pay to meet other regulatory requirements (like CERT)
All this free insulation has to be paid for somewhere.0 -
just looked at their yet again new blue plus 2015 tarriff my god thats very expensive.0

It'll probably be extremely cheap in 3 years time
I think thats a given. By then the adverage bill will be above two grand and yes you know what the answer to that will be this is competative to our customers. NOT
I changed deals in september as my edf v2 fixed was due to end with a unit cost for electric just over 8p now its blue plus april 2014 just over 11p now so a big jump thats the problem with fixed tarriffs you store up years of rises and get walloped when going on to a new tarrif.
but my previous qoute about edf's new march 2015 tarrif the unit rate is now just over 13p so in all did the right thing. As me old mate martin lewis was screaming at me to do lol0 -
Just looked and for me the Blue March 2015 is 19% dearer than my current Blue April 2014 :eek:0
