MSE News: How cheap is the iPad Mini?

I think if someone likes and wants to buy the mini then go ahead, yes you pay more than others similar but it looks nicer and it will hold its value better. The fact that its missing a gps and the screen could be better isn't going to stop it doing what it needs to do. Having had a kindle fire and now a nexus 7 I know the arguments for and against and I think that you just work around the negatives, I don't think you need to feel bad for wanting to buy an iPad mini...0

I was going to replace my 1st gen Itouch with a 5th gen Itouch, but now with the mini, it seems a false economy.
For £20 more I can get a full tablet instead, albeit, with less capacity (16 compared to 32gb). But then I don't really need more than 16gb, as I never filled my 8gb 1st gen Itouch up.0 -
Having purchased our first iPad in March this year after years of being an IBM PC/Windows dedicate I must say we have been very impressed. Yes the pricing is a little more than alternative devices but I do find that the functionality of the iPad is excellent for our needs. So much so we are buying a 4G ipad for more storage as we have filled it up with all our wedding / honeymoon pictures.
Another issue to throw into the argument is the second hand value of apple products. We bought our iPad for £399 in April this year. We've just sold it for £330 to fund our new purchase with larger memory. Thats only £10 depreciation per month.
I wonder what an equivilant PC product would sell for?
However,
The iPad mini I entirely agree is overpriced and out of date. Its clearly been launched to allow a new product in 6-12 months with "retina display" and the addition of the new A6 chip. Apple in my opinion have missed the boat with this one and to some extent the "new" iPhone which isn't drastically improved on the 4S. They need to be very careful not to stand still before Google / Amazon et al. overtake them.0 -

I agree to most points, i think apple could off put in A6, but i think they have prices it right. you will get much more performance and services and hardware of the £269 then any rival 7' tablet.
iPAD MINI, will give you a true tablet experience in a smaller size, plus you get IOS6 with siri etc than you would get with ipad 2, Plus cameras, and 275,000 apps. so in terms of price i think they priced it right where as a business they make profit and as consumer you get a much more superior product that rivals in the same categoryTotal Debt in June 2013: Barclaycard 0% until Nov 2014: £1550
Tesco CC: £1200 0% Until March 2014
HSBC CC: £384 25%APR - TARGET to make GREEN ASAP0 -

Im not sure where ' PC products ' come into it
however it wouldnt have any 'depreciation' if it simply came with an SD slot0 -

As we replaced our out of date laptop with an iPad, I was merely offering an opinion.
Why on earth would the fact that if it did have an SD slot mean it wouldn't depreciate?0 -

it would mean you wouldn't have to sell it to buy one with a bigger memory so depreciation wouldn't be a factor...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Fair point, we do have a card reader for ours but the load time is poor when using large capacity cards with high res SLR pictures. Do any other tablets offer SD upgradeability other than the Note (Which only allows for 32GB)?
Depreciation is always going to be a factor with technology irrespective of if you sell it now or into the future.0
