Seperate stickies for FB, TW, Email & WebI've voted for separate stickies / threads because the other ideas are non-starters. As long as they are separate I don't mind if they stickie or not, and can see that they would take up space on the first page (which annoys me already)
Lots has changed since this time last year. Not just with an explosion of fb and twitter comps, but in the structure of the MSE board itself. We now have a separate sub-board for Compers Chat Corner.
My preferred solution would be a separate sub-board for Advent Competitions (but how much effort does this take to set up?)
So then the sub-board list would be
I won, I won
Game Over
Regular Competitions
Advent Competitions

It probably wouldn't be anything fancy as I know how insane the Advents get and I probably wouldn't have the time, it would likely just be end dates, website name and the links with the new ones added to the top of each section as and when I got around to it, which for the first few days I'd try and make sure was at least every couple of hours, but might drop off to once a day when it calms down until the 12 days ones start and the same again, but if everyone's ok with that then I'd give it a go?
Obviously it's going to be hard to predict how many Advents there will be from year to year and if it's worse than previous years then I may struggle to keep up and might need a lot of help, but the offers there.

No advent threadThe most common type of "advent" comp is a daily entry/daily prize promotion that typically runs from 1st to 24th December. Some only run for 12 days as a "12 days of Christmas" promotion. The comps are posted on the main forum in the normal way with "ADVENT" in the title.
Any other time of the year these comps would have a link to them posted at the end of the DAILY STICKY in Regular Competitions and the person who maintains the index in the first few posts of that thread would add it in.
There is a massive quantity of daily comps starting on the 1st December so the person who maintains the daily sticky would be overloaded ( they still have to look after normal daily comps and would also have to delete all the advents from the daily sticky after the 24th).
The solution to this is for another volunteer to set up a second thread which is made a sticky so it stays at the top of the forum. This is the ADVENT STICKY and works in the same way as the Daily One.
Taking HARIBO as an example from last year:-
1) The comp is posted on the main forum in the normal way
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/48976253#Comment_48976253
2) A link to the comp is posted in the ADVENT STICKY - see post #168 HERE
3) The volunteer looking after the Advent sticky sees post #168 and inserts the comp in the index at the beginning of the thread - see post #2 HERE - 21st item down.
4) New questions/answers/links can be added to the original comp post each day as required.
To use the ADVENT STICKY, each day a comper needs to scroll through the index in the first few posts of the thread and click on any comps they fancy entering. The main alternative to this is to spot the comp when it is first posted in "1)" above and to make your own bookmarks/favourites that you review each day.0 -
Aaah thanks one-eye, now i totally understand just what 'advent' comps are.
Thank you for a very easy to follow guide,
now i know that as long as im upto date with all the normal/regular one off entry comps/prize draws etc., by 1st december, then apart from any newly added ones it means i can then concentrate on doing the daily advent ones.
Well im now looking forward to the chqallenge of getting basically 1 month in front between now and 1st of december..
MANY THANKS :TStill comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -

1 person does all ( seriously harsh)thanks bargainhuntergal :T
any help you want just ask
BTW I made the following request in the dailies stickyI'm really grateful to all who add to this thread and hope you don't think this request is too cheeky
If you could lay out the comp in your post in a similar way to how it's added to the top 3 posts by me it would make it a lot quicker to edit each day
for example (using hamsterfan1's post above)
E: 31/10 win one of three Transformers DVDS
daily rafflecopter tweet
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4239789
posting as follows would mean I can just c&P and only have to colour the date
E: 31/10 win one of three Transformers DVDS - daily rafflecopter tweet
and no worries if that's a pain for you, even if some are done that way it will help me each day
happy comping Glad xx
if in your OP you ask people to post links as above it does make it a lot quicker to add them to the indexesI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
