Can anyone post or pm me which company is in trouble? If they are still trading obviously I couldn't afford to take on work I wouldn't be paid for. Thanks.

I think this goes to show that mystery shopping is not an easy way out of debt. It's not a guaranteed income, and sometimes things go wrong and you don't get the money as soon as you hope. It's also very easy to be out of pocket on a job you do get paid for on time, but a lot of people don't realise that until tax return time.

I hope that everyone who is owed money receives it quickly - including the Mystery Shopping company involved. I also know of at least two forums who are no longer allowing the American company involved to advertise jobs until the situation is resolved.

My sympathies with the shoppers who have found themselves in this situation. The American company is a reputable company and anyone who has done work for them direct have not to my knowledge had any problems with payment.
The problems that some are experiencing, is the outsourcing company which advertised these jobs on this forum and not the American Company. I think its unfair to mention two other forums who have stopped them from advertising Work available when they have no payment issues with their own assessors. Perhaps the forums you are talking about are closely linked to you in some way. It would have been fairer of you to let us know this in your post.
I know the American company are working with the outsourcing company to resolve the situation and are concerned that their name is being tarnished like this.
I would suggest that this is a matter for both company's to work together in resolving.

I've just got my first assignment but it tells me I have to purchase something. I really can't afford to do this. :( (which is why I've had to take on such a badly paid assignment in the first place >.<)

It says in the brief that if I don't want the item I should take it back. Will the store be legally required to give me my money back for an item I'll have had in my possession for only about 15 mins or so and has nothing wrong with it?

Otherwise I'll have gotten more into more debt with my bank than I will get paid for the assignment :(

Tetsuko I have done many assignments which require a purchase to be returned with in a short space of time and I have never had any problems getting a refund. Depending on what the purchase is you can give several excuse's for returning the item ie I have just bought this for my Sister's bitrthday and my brother has already bought it for her, can I have a refund please, normally the refund is quick and easy to do. Don't loose the receipt though !
    I hope this helps

Thanks muchly Saveit. I'm assuming then that you have to just say you've changed your mind about it or the person you bought it for already has one?

I'm usually quite decisive about things I buy. I think I will just feel a bit of a numnut taking it back so quickly :D

I can't believe I'm getting so excited about earning so little (and probably nothing if I grab a coffee). I think I've been looking for work too long :rotfl:
