I have done quite a few assignments, which require me to follow the return & refund process

I have never had to photocopy the receipt just key the results in as normal
    Today 8:08 AM

What I meant was she may need details from the original receipt (transaction number etc) which she wouldnt have if the store kept it ;) ... I'm not very good at explaining clearly sorry!!
    Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Nothing wrong with being choosy Rachie.

I think it happens to a lot of us mystery shoppers. When I first started many moons ago I tended to accept every job that I could. I soon learned to be a bit more discerning & nowadays I turn down more work than I accept.

    Hey Chas we agree!!!:D ;)

I started Mystery shopping as part of my "main " business many years ago and have encouraged my customers to mystery shop me and my team. I enjoy doing most of the mystery shopping jobs and I do believe it can have a positve effect on the business if carried out correctly.

I think it was "The Boss" who made the point that the market is very different now and for that I would agree. There seems to be a lot of companys trying to jump on the MS bandwagon without the experience and cashflow to be able to handle it. I would put my hand up and say that I havent properly checked out one particular company and as such have got burnt (sorry to suggest you were involved Chas that was wrong and after your assurances I am sure you have nothing to do with them)

Anyway I think the learning point is to be careful what work you take on particularly if it involves paying out your own money.

A heads up for anyone with assignments for Gap tomorrow they have a note on their website

    Dear shoppers

Please note that the shopper web site will be down for system maintenance on Saturday March 10th between the hours of 7am and 11am.

We apologise for any inconvenience and will increase the 8 hour submission time for any assignments completed on that day.

    That's a very good point.
Being more choosy is the only way to make reasonable money these days from mystery shopping.

When the ever-so-friendly person from xyz mystery shopping company rings up to ask if you can do a job that's in a town 20 miles away, and it inconveniently needs doing by tomorrow, and there's a million questions and the fee is just 8 or 9 quid including milage, then just because they're asking nicely and being all friendly doesn't mean that you should feel obliged to take the job. JUST SAY NO!

Tell them why you're saying no too and be honest! If more shoppers turned down the rubbish poorly paid jobs, then the message might start to get through.

Don't be scared that if you decline a job, that they might not phone you again and you'll miss out on a better job in the future. I've been declining jobs for years and still get phone calls every week - if it has got to the stage where they're desperately phoning round to try and get somebody to do it, then you should be asking yourself WHY they are so desperate for you to do it!

    Oh, forgot to say...
before saying "no" why not try haggling, it sometimes works.
I roughly work out in my head how many hours the job will take and how many miles the journey is.
I times the milage by 20p and the number of hours by £6, and tell them for example "Sorry £10 is not enough, I would want £20, that's £8 to cover the 40 mile journey plus £12 to cover my time" They do sometimes use discretion when they're desperate, but often won't offer it unless you ask first.

I wonder if there's any hope that they will also mend their fax machine, which seems to have been down all week

I've had a look at the websites posted earlier and started to apply to 1 or 2, is it right to request bank details for a job you may never get? cant they get the details when you have definately been offered a job?
