  • I suggest you type all the amounts of the charges and the dates into Martin's calculator and then decide if you are bothered about the interest once you know how much it is.

Entirely up to you, of course, but 8% court interest can add up to a lot of money. For a £20 charge incurred 6 years ago you can claim £29.60 if you include interest.

Considering that Barclaycard's standard APR is 14.9% the same charge of £20 six years ago will have actually cost you £46.02. A shame you can't claim that part back!

If your charges are mainly £12 I guess they are more recent and so there is less interest to claim, but even so.... why let them get away with it?
  • I jsut discovered, that my account is overdrawn with the Barclaycard, although I have not made any pruchases for more than a year,as I was close to my limit by about £150.
Monthly payments are taken from my account by Barclaycard, as they set the limit.

Ther ason for overdrawn position and teh £12.00 penalty charges applied, was because Barclaycard have increased their interst charges, but did not increase customers direct Debit to ensure taht at least the interst is coverd.

In additon to the charges levied part of the interst was jsut added to my reamiaing credit balance. This is waht has thrown me into an overdrawn postion each month.

As I have been very ill over the last 6 months, I did not notice waht was happening.

    Question:
What right have I got agains tthe bank for charging me unfair overdraft, when it was their actions which casued it in the first place. eg. did not raise minimum payments to cover he increase in interst charges.

Can anyone help or guide me to somone who can give qualfied information
  • Probably doesnt help but the same thing happened to me with Virgin (MBNA I think) but it was only a few months and they agreed to waive it.
  • i had a barclaycard which was paid off approx 5 years ago. i know that just within the 6 year limit i accumulated £800 ish in charges. i don't knowmy account number, barclaycard over the phone say they can't find it. is writing to them with the £10 charge and my address details sufficient?
  • I would add your DOB in there for extra measure.
How did you pay the card off may I ask? Is there any paper/electronic trail that you might have used the number as a reference; ie a standing order or direct debit?
    Good luck x

    Hi all,

I contacted Barclaycard for the 6 years statements, got them ok.
Worked out they owed me a total of £422 including interest.
Sent off the letter to ask for these charges to be refunded.
Checked my online barclaycard and they have refunded £95.

Can anyone provide me with the number of the department I have to contact now to ask for the rest of the charges back please?

    Thanks

    Kyle

  • Suggest you send a follow up letter or two (just repeating the 1st letter really) and you will get it all back eventually. They have a series of standard letters they work through to try and put people off. This first refund will be the difference between the £25 (or whatever it is) and the £12 they say is fair. Keep persevering and you will get it all. It worked for us!

    hi,
i sent off the first of martins template letters to barclaycard asking for a list of my charges. they sent me printed statements from 2006. I have had a barclaycard for ten years. I wrote back saying that i wanted to claim the charges on my account and also the ones previous to 2006.
I received a letter saying charges since 2006 were £12 and were fair blah blah blah.
i wrote back again saying i wanted all of my charges including prior to 2006.
Just got a letter this morning saying "final response" all charges since 2006 are fair but as a good will gesture they have credited £38 to my account !!

i am so angry, what can i do?

any advice would be most welcome, thanks in advance P
    :D
