MSE News: Welfare reforms 'to hit disabled'

You are one of those that has taken responsibility for yourself - I congratulate you. If more were like you and my proposals were put into play, there would be an awful lot of money saved by the state.
In an ideal world everyone would be able to take responsibilty for pension provision.
Unfortunately, we don't live in a ideal world, economically, and at a point where many people are struggling to survive on a daily basis, it is impossible to make personal financial provision for retirement.
I can't imagine the outcome of this, as it's clear future government thinking, WILL be to eventually abolish state pensions, and make everyone provide for their own retirement, financially.
Wasn't their something on the news the other day, saying retirement will be a thing of the past? You will spend all your life working, which many people already do, except for the those who arguably " work harder " and earn huge amounts of money. But we are talking about ordinary people, here.
I've said it before. Isn't it florida which hosts the largest proportion of over 70's in the world, and they all have to work. From a financial point of view. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.
Of course, extended life expectancy now plays a part in this situation now, as 100 is the new 50? Well, not quite, but?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Not fortunate, more a question of responsibility and foresight. Private pension contributions should be up there with mortgage payments/rent/council tax as a priority payment. Not at the bottom if there is any money left over!
Plus the fact that I am not quite 30 yet. Who knows how the pension age will increase in that time, or whether there will even be a state-pension by then (unlikely, but possible).SPC #1813

It came / originated from the welfare system? :rotfl:
( That's if you are referring to carer's allowance?)
I see.
Well as I received £53 a week or whatever it was, and was saving the tax payer £££ in carers fees, it was probably quite a good deal.SPC #1813

I give up.

Many people have doubtless used this country's welfare system at some point in their life, whether they protesteth, or realise it or not, and we should be eternally thankful it has existed, or still exists.
There is much to say, but here is not the place to descend into politics.

I just dont get your point.
I have used the welfare system in the past. My son receives DLA (HRC, LRM), I claimed CA and in the past have claimed WTC.
I am extremely grateful for the welfare system. It is however a system that is open to huge amounts of abuse.SPC #1813

Bank executives, MP's, police, nurses, teachers, public sector generally, senior executives in companies. Do I need to list any more?
People who've been well paid all their lives being cossetted in retirement by people who worked just as hard but were paid a pittance and are still only getting a pittance.
.
Of course we all know how much more well paid the public sector was than the private! (Not!)0 -

Exactly, but there are people on here who seem to think that the top dozen or so civil servants salaries apply to all civil servants/public sector workers. The fact is that most public sector workers earn fairly small salaries and have very heavy workloads - I started out as a civil servant left after 9 years and went into private sector earning more than 4 times what I did in the civil service, for less work, less responsibility, less stress. But hey, the Tories and the Daily Fail say that public sector workers are little better than benefit scroungers and we all know that many people only believe the propaganda

“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.0
