Anybody used Quinn Direct ?

Looking round for car insurance and Quinn Direct seem to be the cheapest. All I know is that its an Irish co. that seems to have interests in a diverse number of areas. They are regulated by the Irish Financial Services Authority - will the FSA in this country also regulate them ? Just want some info. before signing up.
One additional point - is that they say on the front page of their car insurance - that you must have 5 years no claims and no speeding offences but then allow you to fill in details of offences in their forms ?

Hi - yes they are regulated by the FSA just like a UK insurance company.Under latest EC rules any company that is an approved insurer in one EC country automatically becomes approved in any other EC country. So based on their authorization in Ireland Quinn can trade in UK and is regulated by FSA in the UK.

If you have any doubts about their on line quoting speak to them by telephone. They do set out to cover drivers with accident / conviction records so seems surprizing their front pages stipulates 5 years claim free.

Their policy cover israther restricted compared with many others as follows:-

    poorer NCD scale
    no windscreen cover
    no courtesy cars
stringent time limits for reporting claims

Personally I would pay slightly more for peace of mind witha longer established name although Quinn are financially sound.

    Best of luck

just spent 20 mins looking for this! I knew I'd seen Quinn Direct on here!

Has anyone else experience of this company? My mum is having an absolute nightmare with them at the moment! She took out a fully comp policy with them last month, after their quote was almost £100 less than the nearest competitor.

She has twice sent them copies of her no claims. Which they say they have never received? Yesterday she recieved a letter warning her that unless they receive confirmation forthwith she will have to pay an extra £400 or her policy will terminate on the 29th Sept. She called them straight away and the girl on the phone then asked her to fax the no claims dis to her. Mum does this that afternoon and calls back. No! they state, they didn't receive any fax?????

Then this salesperson!!! proceeds to tell mum her policy was terminated on the 9th sept!!!!! But I have your letter mum states? What letter they say!!!! We have no record of it!!!!!! Despite the fact mum read out this letter and give her the guys name who signed it, the rep was insisting they didn't send it!!!!!! ARGHHHHH

Mum asked to speak to this guy! He wasn't there! What a surprise!
Anyway she's pretty upset by all this and is terrified to drive incase she isn't covered? The thing is she has paid upfront already! I've told her to send a photocopy of everything to them by recorded delivery? Figuring someone will have to sign for them, so they can't deny receiving them?

But if they have cancelled her policy, can she claim any money back?
If they haven't cancelled yet, can my mum cancel it and claim any money back? Figured I'd get more straight answers here! They obviously haven't a clue! She's a intelligent woman but Quinn Direct have her going around in circles!

lots of experience with Quinn Direct - I'm from NI and they've been operating here for as long as I can remember. I think all my family have used them at some time or another and nobody has ever reported any problems. Most people will get a quote from them as they do tend to be cheap especially for young drivers as they also take into account named driver status and give a discount for this. Anyway I don't see any problems using them.

I'm searching around for insurance on my Astra MK4 2.0 TDi and confused, insuresupermaket both show it as cheapeest at £792 - not a great price but I'm 24 with 2yr driving and 1yr ncb (no accidents).

I'm just slightly dubious of quinn for some reason, i part because there is a compulsory excess of £135 on top of the voluntary excess.

    Any opinions on the insurer?

Quinn Direct are dead on, I was insured with them. I had no claims either mind.

However if you go to https://www.jon44w.co.uk/forum/ and post up a question on there, you will get a response from a few people who have had claims from them, from what I remember there were no hitches.

Also, try JMW (Bachelors walk, Lisburn) - they worked out cheapest for me by a country mile ( 25 yo / VW Golf GT TDI 150bhp )

i have two friends who have nightmare claims with quinn direct, in both cases it took over a year to settle on a claim that clearly wasn't their (my friends's) fault. i would steer well clear. plus, i found that when i looked at them when i bought my first car (before i mentioned it to my friends and they went NOOOOOOO!) the online quote was completely different than whrn i called up to confirm. (much more expensive when i phoned). since then i've been with elephant/diamond instead

Thanks guys, im still umming and arring, simply because they are so cheap.

They are in fact about £88 cheaper than admiral but quinn shockingly only gave excess of £135 no voluntary excess! Whereas admirals total excess is £300.

Then there's the fact that a cracked\chipped windscreen will cost me £135 in excess as well instead of the normal £50\60. I suppose you can't have it all!

I'm tempted to pay Nationwide the 200 extra, then quote £880 and
Thanks, I'll have a read of the other forum too. :)

Nationwide £1179.15 with £250 excess inc Coutesy car and extras
Nationwide £1118.25 with £350 excess inc Courtesy car and extras
(Can't get it to add to £300!)
Admiral £880.95 with £300 excess (+add some for europe cover say £920?)

Quinn £792.19 with £135 excess - no frills

Not sure what to do! Should I go with Nationwide and get a cheque back for about £396- £500 makign the insurance £679? or should I go down the hassle free route?

    Need advice!

oh my goodness - seriously go with Quinn, as for the people above complaining about the length of time to settle a claim - what type of claim was this - personal injury or what?

Don't take any notice of complainers - at the end of the day an insurance company is an insurance company - why pay nationwaide £300 extra - for this money you get hire yourself a car instead of getting a courtesy car if the worst came to the worst - chances are you won't need to - also the excess is soo much more.

above mentioned claims were not personal injury, they were to get the money back for the car...i seriously would not touch quinns with a bargepole...i don't fancy losing my car then not getting the money back to buy a new one for a year.
