knowing that that is completely unaffordable not had a holiday since 2008
so expensive watches and jewelry are also out

Do you really want something of value you can keep? or would you prefer something you would really want?
money to go towards a 'once in a lifetime holiday?
pay for a 'course' in something youre interested in?
a piece of art you covet?
    something frivolous you would love?
its ok for family to 'suggest' things - but, if after some thought its not what 'they' think that you want. then just ask for money!

Some great ideas. As I am an older mum, dad and I have done a lot of travelling before my little one came along. Before my little boy we were quite spoilt, 2 incomes and no big expenses. Now my little boy is here our life has changed but in a good way. I now look to do things as a family and less about me, which is why I am finding it hard to find something for me. I had a lovely pandora bracelet as a wedding present from my husband and family bought me charms.

So lets face it I am too spoilt sorry. I think any special present is too difficult for me alone it probably needs to be something t hat makes my little boy happy too. Maybe Disneyland as I am a big kid at heart.

    Thanks everyone.
Webitha I hope you find some nice ideas too. X

A nice meal at Wetherspoons? At my local one you can get 2 meals for £7.50 & the drinks are cheap. Or a roast dinner for £6.25 if you wanna go a bit more upmarket. Maybe you could all but a tenner or a bit more if you could afford it :D

for my 40th a couple years ago I got a Hockney
now ok that may bit a tad expensive but there are prints of just about any art you like so hows about a print.. . if you are into art that is.
otherwise a lovely locket and chain
have to admit I have pretty much traveled everywhere I wanted to go except India. however Copenhagen is pretty cheap and close for a weekend break and Amsterdam can be done for next to nothing if you look around for cheap deals, Ostend is pretty and very cheap too.
if you want a weekend away then look on the jet2 and other cheap flights places and ferries
if you want a thing then jewelery can be the best way.or a print or sculpture.
otherwise lessons in something . guitar maybe? or French or Spanish?
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥

A nice photoshoot for you and the family, with a decent size photo to keep at the end? I know that this particular company is controversial on this site with people loving them or hating them, but we had a Venture shoot when my youngest two were toddlers and nearly 10 years later still have those very beautiful large framed photos on the walls and they still look great. Other companies offer similar packages if you don't like Venture, and we had a similar style shoot using a different company with our youngest when he was a newborn, also with lovely results.

You can take props along for this kind of shoot so you could bring some stuff which would make it obvious that it was a birthday shoot.

I didn't have one holiday between 1977 and 1997 - and that was because my friend won a hol and I just paid for my plane ticket.

It makes them worth waiting for when you do get them.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

A scrapbook filled with photos, momentos and people's personal recollections of events involving you over the last 40 years?

If you want nothing but something, and you would like to onclude the 3 of you, possibly a piece of jewellery.....why not have a piece of jewellery made thats been designed by all of you...

you could have a pendant with your thumb prints on or even an etching or mark that your little boy has made for you cast into a piece of gold...

If the idea appeals then there are loads of small manufacturing local jewellers around that you could approach to make you some form of special piece to celebrate a special time.
