The city break is nice but I don't know if I would want to leave my boy, and he is too young for that sort of trip. It would need to be short trip or something he would enjoy too.
  • When I was 40, I didn't know what I wanted. I asked for donations to the special school where my son goes, as they were just starting to fundraise for specialist play equipment for the older children.

A couple of days ago I visited the new playground and saw some of the equipment that has been bought. It isn't quite finished yet, but will be great for the children when they can use it.

It might not sound a great present, but it was ideal for me. When you consider that a swing for disabled children can cost £8000, you can see why the school had to fundraise.
  • I turned 40 this year and the OH paid for a snowboarding holiday for me which was ace; I bought myself a new car!

I've suggested this before (not on this thread) but how about having a star named after you?. I can't remember the name of the website but its something like star registry if you google it. From memory it's not particularly expensive but it's certainly memorable and a bit special.

I have a Pandora bracelet . The charms are very individual as in you can buy different ones for different occasions , birthday, Christmas, holiday , or I love you for example ,

The charms come in loads of colors which means that every single bracelet is an original , and every charm and bracelet has a meaning only to you .:)

How about a charm bracelet? The family members who are asking what to buy could pick out a charm that is relevant to you and them, maybe symbolising a special/significant time for you, and for future birthdays/Christmases etc, no-one would ever be short of ideas...? Just a thought....
Don't put it DOWN, put it AWAY! ;)

That's where I'm going for my 40th next year.

    Although I do like slowhand's suggestion... :p
You had me at your proper use of "you're".

For my 40th just passed in august there , we flew to vegas ( hated it) drove down to the grand canyon ( loved it) up to death valley ( loved it) over to Sonora pass ( loved it) Yosemite park ( loved it) then San fran ( ugggg) before flying home, I've now seen some of the most beautiful amazing places on this wonderful planet , that's something I will treasure for the rest of my life.

My house got burgled ( not while I was away for my birthday ... Years ago) and they stole so many things of mine , barring Alzheimer's etc no one will ever be able to steal my memory,

I've dropped _heavy_ hints as I've always wanted some diamond earrings...

But it's _such_ a long time away that I'm sure OH will have forgotten by then:D
So I'm saving up for a pair of my own.....

For OH's birthday we went to stay at Everest Base camp which was a-maz-ing!! So if you've had somewhere you've always wanted to go.....

And as a surprise I also bought him an expensive watch which made him speechless - that doesn't happen often:D
Penny: I'm a little low on cash.
    Leonard: How much you got?
    Penny: Nothing!
Leonard: How can you walk around with no money?
Penny: I'm cute, I get by.
