I spend about £40 on a haircut but justify it by going a bit less often (about 4-5 times a year) and spending very little on hair products - most of the time I only use shampoo. I think it's worth spending on the cut and making up for it elsewhere. Could you go a bit less often or cut down on the products you use instead? Just an alternative suggestion.

belfastgirl, the OP said she had a very short style. I speak from experience when I say that you do need to get it cut often. The style grows out quickly (in my case) and does not look good. The beauty of a short hairstyle is in the excellence of the cut. This then requires very little attention or "faffing" in between salon visits. I wash and condition daily and it takes about 3 minutes to finger dry with a hairdryer. I muss it up with product and I'm away.

:) Never had a very short style myself (potato face so not an option) so didn't think of this. This also explains the shelves of products that baffle me when I go into boots lol!

OP I second what everyone has said about colleges, however I'd get yourself down to Toni & Guy in Eastbourne for one of their training/modelling days. I don't know if they still offer early evening appointments so you can go after work but they used to when I used to go. Costs about £10 I think, OK so it's not super cheap as some of the colleges are but it's still all supervised, and you will get a decent enough haircut. And when people ask you where you had it done you can legitimately reply Toni & Guy!

PS also might be worth putting this on the Local Money Saving Board for England, you might get more personal recommendations from locals there!

    Well everyone........ come to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will only charge you £5.00 and Im qualified!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you, perhaps some of you would say Im a member of the blue rinse brigade by now!!!!! lol

Being a hairdresser myself, I must admit that these places that charge £10.00 upwards for a cut is ripping people off...... I myself wouldnt pay that much for a haircut, hence, I cut it myself!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Hence having to look for bargains on Money Saving Expert website!!!!!!!!! lmao xxxx I live a sad life!!!!!!!! lol
  • like pattycake i have a dry cut, much cheaper.

if it's the local hairdresser i wash my hair before leaving the house, so it stays wet. if it's in town then my hair will have dried out so they spray it. then i just get it cut, and leave with it damp.

a lot of people do that and the staff are happy to just do the cut bit. i dye it myself too, but when my hair was very long i sometimes ended up stripey because i'm not very good at it :rotfl:

  • At the mo my hair is quite short, dark and straight. I'm trying to let it grow, but it looks so bland at the moment that I'm needing to do something to maybe jazz it up abit. Don't want to spend a fortune tho', any advice, ideas are welcome :)

The best option is call your local college depending on where you live some have beauty salons where you can get your hair done, I have just paid £17 for full head highlights would have cost me in town £80 + if you can't wait until Sept when college starts again then try your local salon and see if they require any models
