Well my hair is looking shocking to say the least and in desparate need for cut and colour but just can't afford the £70 it was going to cost me.
But then I had a thought and contacted Farnborough College of Technology and they have a salon. I asked how much a touch up colour, cut and blow dry would be and was told £24.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! £20 for the colour and £4.50 for cut & blow dry!
If anyone lives in that area I would give it a try. I go next week so will let you all know how good it was.
Just love a bargain!!!

            (First-time post ) )
My ex-local college have a hairdressing and beauty school, and they do haircuts and styles for as low as £2.50! Also, it's not as if you're getting someone thrown in at the deep end, as there is ALWAYS at least one supervisor on hand to make sure everything's going well. Colouring is really cheap as well, as are a range of beauty treatments, and they've even got a points/loyalty scheme!
I thoroughly recommend looking at local colleges and seeing if they offer similar services. I've just moved, and I'll be looking as soon as I can
(edit: I should note that I colour my own hair because no hairdresser will touch the nuclear-strength purples and pinks I go in for - our bathroom's always an interesting colour ) There's mush in my clock slot.0 ) There's mush in my clock slot.0

            Hi All,
Well I posted my SOA yesterday and put on there that I spend £29 every 6 weeks on my hair cut. A lot of people said this was too much. Well, it must be fate as I phoned my hairdresser today and found out that the girl who usually cuts my hair has left.
So, firstly, how much should / could I be spending on my haircut? It is a very short style so really does need doing every 6 weeks. Where can I start looking for a new hairdresser?
Am a bit worried as I live in a 'retirement' town and a lot of the local hairdressers are very 'blue rinse' style. The one I went to was the only one that was a bit younger and funkier.
So advice (and if anyone lives in the Brighton / Eastbourne area recommendations would be good too!).Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0

            Hi there
Are there any beauty/hairdressing colleges near you? You might get a cheaper cut with them also some hairdressers offer deals if you go at the beginning of the week when they are less busy or you could try and find some juniors who are still training, you might get it half price, although not sure if you'd want a junior cutting your hair if it's short
I've long hair so DH cuts my fringe every now and then and that does me until I can save up enough for a proper cut at the hairdressers :rotfl:DFW Nerd no: 149 0 0

Why not go to the local college? They run hairdressing courses. Most are more than happy to have people to practise on (nothing can go wrong as they're are fully supervised) and the most they'll charge is a couple of quidCC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Second what the above posters have said about your local college - my SIL is training & she 'works' in their salon a couple of times a week, she has told me that haircuts start from £3 !!! (although I don't let her touch my hair at the mo!)
Also, one of the local salons in our area has a training school - everything is 1/2 price, been there a few times & a cut cost £15, colour started from £20 - for a full head of foils. I went there when I had a shortish style - & I was really impressed with the service. Just a word of warning, make sure you don't have anything planned afterwards - they normally take ages, because of course they are training! I am in the future you know...

I go to one of the best salons in Dundee and if you go on training day, a trainee will cut your hair for £2.50. They also do colours, highlights etc not sure how much they are though. And the senior stylists constantly check that everything is ok, and should there be any problems they sort it out for you - great value and I was very impressed with the cut!0

I have been to a local college too, and it was great, certainly better than the blue rinse brigade hairdressers near me!! (flash back circa 1993, layered poodle perm incident)
Go for it, they take more time too, and are supervised throughout.Nerd Number 201 - Geek chic!0
