I got fed up waiting and phoned Dell on the non geographic number 01344 860456. Spoke to a couple of helpful people in their call centre (India?) They explained the story we already know and that their customer service people are working though the list of affected customers to offer an alternative product. He said I should be receiving my call in the next few days.

I'm happy now that I know they are doing something and that they were fully aware of the situation as soon as I mentioned Dell 1150.

i too got fed up - sent 2 mails.. nothing, so called their customer care line who (irish) said some one would call me back.... yea, right! Then received a call (irish again) - not connected to the mails/call i made - guy said they were working thru a HUGH list of people who had ordered 1150's.

The score is they are offering a 2200 laptop with pentium 1.6ghz m 725 400fsb, inbuilt wireless, same spec everything, free printer, and 1280mb RAM!!! I have spec'd it thru the dell website and it comes to £1260!!!! :):):) Pity, its for my parents..... :(

So that's the problem. They're dealing with all the people called Hugh first and then will get to the rest of us. Dauphin, is your real name Hugh, by any chance?
    :D

Sorry cheeky, couldn't resist it. Good to know they seem to be telling the same story at the moment.
  • still waiting on my phone call but seems good that more than one person has been offered this 2200 model, based on the strength of these posts I have ordered my laptop case and wireless network so please lord let it be right.

My original 1150 spec came in at £522 as it included a RW CD, a wireless card and a mouse. Is everyone being charged this for the new machine or did those who had not requested a wireless card in the original set up paying around £480.

If this is the case, I'll try for a further reduction to offset the waiting time. This was a birthday present for my daughter and her birthday is well past because of this delay!

Cheeky - are you getting the free printer/delivery as well?

dunno about you guys but having just recently purchased my laptop from dell i just cant get use to the finger mouse operation!! Anyway was searching high and low saturday for a wireless optical mouse, i learned that you can pick up reasonably cheap ones with a ps/2 plug...but the cheapest decent usb wireless optical ones i came across was around 25 pounds...just before grudgingly picking up one of these i came across the cutest mouse i ever seen in staples!! a super mini mouse, it is wired...but for just 11.25 with retractable wire, usb plug and silver to match my dell 1150.... i just had to have it!! its so neat it fits well for the small square surface you have next to the finger mouse pad thing and ideal for my 4 year old's little hands for when shes playing on ceebeebies site...how does every one else cope with that finger pad thing? any tips?
