Morning all!
Another day of brain wracking frustration ahead
Can we try an pin down the length/tempo of the "sun, sun" bit?
Are both the sons the same? Same length? Same pitch?
Is sun one syllable or more of a su-un?
Maybe pick a song that we all know, like Happy Birthday and tell us which bit they're most like....
"Sun-sun sunsun sun suun, sun-sun sunsun sun suun, sun-sun SUNsun sun suuu-uun, sun-sun sunsun suuun suuuuuuun"
I love my life at the moment.
And I love you.0 -

Sorry for the disappointment all...If it's any consolation, I think that manics song was the best guess yet - I can see how it fits pretty much all the criteria I'd described.
Right, let's talk sun-suns.
I'm pretty sure it's either the same word repeated twice, or two very similar sounding words - and they're sung in much the same way.
Like I said, they're backing vocalists singing it, they're not overly prominent (as no vocals in the song are overly prominent) and they're definitely more su-un than sun, with the "un" being slightly higher pitch than the "su".
As far as I can recall, it's literally "su-un...su-un" and then it carries on with the rest of the song...there are no other words involved in the "sun" bits. Each "su-un" is probably a second long, no holding of notes etc.
I can't think of a popular song with a similar sound, but at the risk of sounding (once again) like I'm taking the proverbial...there is another song on a TV advert that has a similar sounding bit in it...now, if only I could remember what the advert's for...I'm sure it's some kind of bank or utility. I'm much more confident that I can find that song, anyway...will take another look later, hopefully give you all a hint in the right direction anyway...although not sure it will really help...It's a tune that I kinda fell into whilst I was trying to hum the actual song...but I don't know if it actually sounds anything like it. Gah, how ridiculous.0 -

Yeah...I'd invite you all not to worry about the other one. If I find it, I'll post a link...but, like I said, I'm not sure it sounds anything like the right song, anyway..so probably not much value.
Believe it or not, I've an excellent memory for songs0 -
Could it be something by R.E.M.?0

I'd be inclined to say not - I'd recognise his voice, plus the sound's a little "gentler" than I'm looking for, I think.0 -
I just had a thought, it's not TV Tan by The Wildhearts is it?
That has a "SO SO" backing vocals bit.... not sure it really fits with what you're saying, but worth a shot!
It is also catchy and brilliant, British and possibly the era we were looking at0 -
Could it be Fans by Kings of Leon? It doesn't really fit with the indistinct voice though but the tune is memorable and I have no idea what half the words are. It has a backing bit too...0

Ah, another one that fits the spec pretty tight...I could well see those backing vocals saying "son" (I presume they actually say "fan", but who knows...)
I'd say it's just a little bit too much "traditional rock" more than "modern rock/pop" in sound...plus I'd recognise the KOL dude's voice easy enough, anyway.
Again, though...giving hope that there are still great songs out there that haven't been guessed yet.
As an aside, I'm starting to think that if this were a wind up, it would be the best wind up ever0 -
