If you can remember any of the tune at all, you could try using one of the apps like Soundhound (which I use on my phone) or Shazam, both of which are iPhone, iPad and Android etc. Good list of apps here (re Android phones only). Can recognise a song played on e.g. radio or shop or bar, also works quite well if you sing into it - and comes up with suggestions.

    No way!

The fact that there is much written about this on the internet, so many apps available etc, means that song unrecognition must be a common affliction. Chin up OP. It will come :)

I have a question: When you heard it, did you think that you were hearing it for the first ever time? Based on the breadth of your music listening experience, could it be something obscure?
  • Placebo maybe? They have a song called battle for the sun, not sure how well it fits though.

For some reason also, Biffy Clyro came to mind but can't think of a song that fits either.

Oooh, can I join in?! How about Aerosmith, Dream On http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1vB07osBEw ("Dream on" instead of "sun, sun" - at approx 3.08) Or (IMO not likely, but....) maybe Pink Floyd, Comfortably Numb?

If it was a bunch of old school rock tracks together, it may have been Planet Rock's "Rock Block" where listeners send in a selection of their favourite tracks to be played back to back. If so, it may be worth getting in touch with Planet Rock to ask them? (All "if's" and "maybe's" I'm afraid!)
  • Oh dear, I knew it was a bad idea to read this thread... now it's going to bug me too, so you're absolutely not allowed to give up now OP! Or at the very least, if it comes to you in a dream or something you have to come and tell us what it is!

I'm going to have a go at guessing with Pixies - Here Comes Your Man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvi4iA3PnKE

It has a "so long, so long" backing bit that sounds like it might fit...

Thinking about the 'oh this is their new song' by a famous rocky band, not the new Rolling Stones song? (haven't listened to the whole song so not sure about the sun/son thing)

Or maybe 'So-long' in which case could it be The Beat Goes On by Beady Eye (Liam Gallagher's band)?
