If I had to guess, I'd say it was a male solo artists, but not 100%.
I'm sure the backing vocalists say "Son, Son" or something that sounds similar to that...but I've googled "son son", "sun sun", "song song" and not found anything that helps
bit like a cross between knocking on heavens door and the house of the rising sun.0 -

Thanks for the guess...but not rocky or modern enough and the lyrics are too distinct still...
Sorry if I sound like I'm criticising everyone's guesses, by the way...but I figure by saying what's wrong about each song it may help other people (or myself) work out what it actually sounds like.
Clearly there's a niche here for some kind of Akinator style "find that song" app0 -
Yeah, "find that song" based on pretty much no details whatsoever!0

A 69p download would be a lot cheaper than the regression therapy I'm starting to consider0 -

Oh blimey, you've got me wondering now!
There was a song that sounded like it was influenced by Knocking On Heaven's Door around at some point in the late 90s (so that would be when Skunk Anansie & Offspring were at their peak), but I can't remember what the song is at all.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -

Nah, I'm not aware that it's a cover version...certainly not of anything classic. I have a half decent knowledge of music, so I don't think it's anything super-obvious. And there are too many remember-able words in it. Like I said, literally the only bit I could pin down was the "son son" bit in between each section...too bad that I seem to have misinterpreted that, too.
I really feel the key is in that the vocals are just a little bit quieter than usual, with quite an emphasis on the rolling melody of the song instead....0 -
