I live in Edinburgh so fully aware that I would not get the 25% discount for buying 6 bottles or more, I still thought this was a good deal. The order came to £64.95 which included the delivery charge.
The order arrived tonight, the driver didn't even bother to get the champagne out as it was substituted with six bottles of Etienne Dumont Brut at £31.99 a bottle. This made the order a whopping £184.89 (inc delivery charge and £10 discount). Would we like to take delivery....er that would be a no!
Whilst I know they substitute items that are out of stock, I would have expected them to have chosen something similar in price which may have been difficult since the champagne was on offer. So my husband rang Customer Services because now we're due £184.89 to be debited from our account to then be refunded however that money will be ring fenced for 4 to 5 days which means we can't draw on it. We won't be short over the next week, but that's not the point. Either honour the order at the price given originally or don't debit the money at all.
The person who had picked the substitute should have raised the signficant price difference with their manager before letting the order go out.
My husband is waiting for a call back from Sainsbury's to discuss what they're going to do. I doubt they'll do anything except follow their process and debit/ refund £184.89 which is a lot of money to be without for a week and have nothing to show for it.:(0 -
Surprise Surprise - received a call from sainsburys depot in Rugby this morning regarding my delivery of champagne. Apparently as it has been advertised on MSE website Sainsbury did not carry enough stock for the amount being ordered. The sainsburys lady was very apologetic and said that they would be substituting my order with sainsburys own champagne which was only £1 a bottle dearer and if I did not want it then I could decline the delivery. Well I thought what the hell, ill let them come and see what sort it is.
The delivery driver has just been and guess what the substitute champagne actually turned out to be £19.99 per bottle.
Thanks MSE though this would have been a great offer if it had worked for me. Everyone who got some enjoy

I am really hacked off. Ordered my champagne in the week - 6 x 75ml bottles of Antoine de Clevecy Champagne total price £72.00 but then should have received 25% due to buying 6 bottles or more. When the driver eventually arrived 17 minutes past the 1 hour slot - I was really confused because the receipt was showing £146.90. Turns out that they have substituted the cheap with the expensive. The substitute being Etienne Dumont Brut at £31.99 a bottle BUT........ they did take off £47.99 being the 25% discount for 6 bottles or more! Driver couldn't get his terminal to work in order to process the non-acceptance. He suggested that I phone Sainsburys - which I have only just done. I gave up after waiting in a queue for over 10 minutes. Just glad it was a freephone number!!
Wasted evening for me. Thanks for nothing Sainsburys!0 -
My delivery also came from Rugby store/ depot also had call this am that getting a Sainsbury's champagne and overall cost only one pound dearer than original. Driver phoned 15 minutes before delivery to check our address and informed us there was no paperwork, the champagne was etienne dumnont (now know this is 31.99 a bottle) we accepted but signed delivery note stating accepted but have right to return once invoice is sent to us. I then Called customer services, who also do not have a copy of our invoice and felt they really were worse than useless, but we are to get a call back in the morning regarding the lack of paperwork and actual price we have been charged. I have been promised that we have the right to have the order collected if invoice as much as I think it will be (about 146.00 pounds) . I am not annoyed that this offer has not worked out for me, but will not be ordering from Sainsburys online grocery dept in future as seems very underhand that substituted with really expensive champagne, when told over phone it would be sainsburys own and also because I had specifically ticked no substitute on my order to protect myself from this very problem.Just because your paranoid does not mean they are not out to get you ! :rotfl:0

Thanks for nothing Sainsburys!
Don't blame Sainsburys - if you have to blame someone, blame the thousands of people who took up the offer from MSE.
I got mine at £44.95 - I didn't get my rail voucher the other week, but didn't blame redspottedhanky for that. Some you win, some you lose................
Shampage ish very nicsh - hic !0 -
Just had six bottles delivered for £46.95!
Cheers MSE!:beer:0 -
Ordered on Saturday 27th, for delivery on Sunday 28th in a £2.95 delivery slot, 12bottles of the Sanisbury's fizz, and it showed up on time and at £100.95 - spot on, just as MSE promised.
12 bottles at £24.00 = £288.00
Less 50% discount = £144.00
Less £10 voucher code for newbies = £134.00
Plus £2.95 delivery charge = £136.95
Less 25% discount on 6+ bottles = £100.95
And for 12 bottles, that's £8.41 each.
Now, that's something to celebrate!
Thanks to everyone for their posts, as they were REALLY helpful - I was straight down to the van, to make sure I wasn't being palmed off with Cava, or being offered a higher price substitution. Also, made sure to check through all the receipt details before the very nice delivery man took it out of the van, in case all the discounts weren't applied - everything was clear as crystal, so thanks everyone again for making it easy and to MSE for the 'be persistent' warning.0 -
Delivery man just arrived with 4 bottles of prosecco instead of the 6 bottles of champagne. According to the him, Sainsburys' have run out of champagne and are now fobbing off the customers with whatever they have left. No phone call or email to say that I wasn't going to get what I ordered, just a hapless driver hung out to dry.
