  • but he told me... to get my hubby to have a wee around the chicken fence.. and also put some of the dog poo around the outside of the fence too......

Good tip cooltc. Thanks for sharing this with us. :T I wonder what my OH is going to say once I tell him to start weeing around the run!:rotfl: I'll let you know his reaction once I mention it when he gets home from work! :D
I don't have a dog so he'll have to be weeing double to make up for that!

  • Quite fancy some Black Rocks but it seems that there isn't a supplier in this area. Still looking.

Same here catewithers. I wanted a Black Rock but as I was told its best to get all the chickens at the same time it looks like we'll be getting our three from the same place as we wouldn't be able to manage getting hens from different places all in one day. OH is dead set on getting a White Star as he wants a white egg layer and they didn't have any white egg layers where they had Black Rocks. <sigh> Still, I can quite easily settle for another...mine will be pet first and egg layer second whereas its the other way round for my husband, but I'm interested to see if that'll change once he chooses a name and gets attached to his new bird! :D

  • My OH was sceptical to start with but he's already getting all broody! And we've already got names picked out!!! LOL!! He's such a big softy. I reckon I could even convince him to pee all round the run but we've got dogs so that should suffice!

will you be having anymore chickens later on ?..if you are might be worth you doing 'scenting thing' now.. so the fox will get the message....

As it happens, I collected 12 Light Sussex hatching eggs today - they'll go in the incubator tonight and should hatch in about 21 days.

We don't have a dog - how do I ask my dog-owning friends for their poo  :rotfl:

Many thanks for your best wishes.

or you could put some well worn really and i mean really smelly socks/shoes.... around the fence.. so the smell will drift......mmmmm on other thoughts maybe not... as you might get complaints about the smell ( if my hubby's smelly socks have got anything to go by)

all joking aside.... i thinks its so that the fox smells either humans or dogs....so it makes them very weiry around the run.....

Sorry to hear your bad news P P, living in an urban area 30 years ago, foxes didn't pose a problem like they do today but cats did. Fortunately the main weapon in my armoury was a bantam !!!!, I had better not mention what he did to an errant cat in order to protect his hens 'cos there may be some cat lovers reading this forum.
On a more lighter note, this link which I saw in another forum on this site may assist in the disposal of the waste products associated with chicken keeping.
