  • I'd neg him. He's obviously the sort of person who's liable to mess other people about, so the warning should be given!

Valid point, but then we don't live a few miles from him. Not wanting to make assumptions, but by the look of the language, it might be smarter to let it go. That'd be my decision.

stuff like this happens all the time, just let it go - if this is really the truth though, i question why she would have the time to check her emails and reply to you - surely she should be doing other things and not worrying about a £3 item on ebay.

i have had no contact with the buyer since the phone call i made and then closing the dispute a couple of days ago. i had the message calling me a compassionless b***h which i did not reply to. and now this

"are you really that cold and heartless?"

i'm not sure what they want me to do exactly

they didn't pay, they messed me about, i started an unpaid item dispute and once i was told to "keep the f*****g things" i closed it to get my final value fees back and they got an unpaid item strike

maybe they want me to apologise for giving them an unpaid item strike and remove it because of their "bad news"?

at the time i was just told on the phone that his girlfriend had had some bad news, there was no mention of a death or a murder, so i'm not sure how i was supposed to know that this was supposedly the reason they were unable to pay and collect.

As above, ignore and try not to let it upset you. Nothing more you could have done or indeed, can do.

In my opinion, if there had been a bereavement in MY family, the LAST thing I would be doing is sitting in front of the computer sending nasty emails about eBay transactions.

Therefore I deduce that a) he's not THAT affected by the bereavement and b) he's just using it as an excuse.

Ignore him. He's not paid and he's got the NPB strike. At the end of the day, all you've got to go on is the word of a rude, boorish-sounding idiot who may or may not be lying.

Well I have speed-read this thread and I see very little compassion from anyone for the likelihood that the buyer may indeed have had one of the worst weeks and tasks imaginable and found himself explaining a father's murder to children.

If that is true, and I think it is, then all other bets are off. A £3 unpaid for uncollected item on ebay pales into total insignificance and I cannot understand why so many of you have missed the turning point.

People do not remember to continue to manage the little things in life when such disasters befall them. They appear to be irrational when they are interrupted by trivia in the midst of disaster and I would say most people when so overburdened would be unlikely to remember that a stranger had no knowledge of it. They disappear unexpectedly to hospitals for hours on end, look after other people in shock, and as we have read, possibly sit down and try to tell kids how their Dad is dead. They might then when the kids are in bed, even sit down and look for some solace in browsing on the computer and going through the motions on a few routine things. No you can't be expected to be a mind reader, but in the grand scheme of things which we all now know about, the buyer didn't do anything much which was unforgivable either, did he?

There sometimes comes a point in life's rich tapestry when you must seriously consider shutting your gob and taking a deep breath. Then if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Or if you are seriously big hearted, and few of us have that gift thesedays, then you might, just possibly, know what to say.

    As I said ... just a speed-reader's two-pennorth....

Now then, did I miss anything important?

PeterBaker - you genuinely sound like a nice bloke. I wish I could see the best of people but what really ARE the odds of this happening do you reckon? I suppose what is really sad is that the chances are that this is just another ebay clown who has found a reason for not being bothered to pick something up and yes, it's someone else's fault. Can anyone else remember the thread on here a while ago where the guy had a heart attack (so his son said in an e-mail???? co-incidentally with the same bad spelling) but was still able to bid on other things?
You might be right and I will hang my head in shame for not believing in my fellow man, but the odds are sadly on everyone else's side......

As I have read, the buyer was abusive before the alleged murder. So where was his reasoning then.
