  • Being a newbie e bayer myself,I would have thought if I was collecting that I pay you when I get to your house obviously I now know this is incorrect and I have to pay through e bay.Maybe the person who purchased the item thought they pay you directly at your house hence not being paid up on time within the 7 days. They were also told they could pick the item up today tomorrow or in the week, but after 2 days you gave them a non payment strike, however you got out of it by saying e bay did it as they didnt pay to e bay within 7 days. However you did say anytime in the week, them now thinking there,s no rush, and if they thought they pay you in your hand, Well an easy mistake to make being a newbie.I dont think they would make up such a terrible story to get out of paying £2.95 forgods sake its not £2095.00Maybe its true,he did tell you it was in the paper.Put it down to experience. Its not the end of the world. sh%t happens unfortunately.Im sure e bay is the last thing they,d be worried about at the moment.

I personally think its a bit rude to assume people will allow collection, ESPECIALLY if its for something very cheap. Or rather, something that sold cheap that its likely the seller expected to get more for.

Its often way easier to pop into the post office with an item in your lunch hour or while your doing the shopping, than sit in your house waiting on someone to collect it.

Fair enough sitting in for £20 or so, but for £3? Id rather get home from work and put my feet up, or go see my mates than sit about for a couple of quid.

Sorry about your ebay experience a similar thing happened to me and i wanted to leave neg at the last second but before 70 days were up it would not let me leave feedback. it is very unreliable to predict when it will disappear. Goofbay used to have a tool to have a feedback sniper I can't see it on theirsite anymore though.

Hanax, the ability to leave feedback does not disappear exactly on day 70. Feedback can be easily left for 90 days as per ebay help pages, and for many months afterwards if you know how. I got my one and only retaliatory neg on a minor account 5 months after the auction ended.
do you know how to leave feedback many months after?

Imagine there's a guy in an office at ebay. It's his job to flick a switch that stops feedback being left for a transaction.

That switch can be flicked any time from 90 days. He's a pretty slack worker and sometimes he even forgets to do it for several months later than that.

    It really is that random.

Its probably designed to not be exactly 90 days to stop people trying to give harsh last minute feedback without reprisal.
Imagine if people did it to you.. "just for a laugh"
    Be nice

Hanax - i won't leave him any feedback until/if he leaves me some

smashed - no he doesn't sound very intelligent does he, sounded the same on the phone as did his girlfriend

kriss_boy - no i didn't reply to his message because i just didn't know what to say... well i did but it was a bit rude lol, i couldn't think of anything "nice" to say back to that. i don't know if he is telling the truth or not, probably not although i didn't want to cause offence in the unlikely event that it was the truth. even though he offended me by calling me a b***h for having no compassion over something i knew nothing about.

maxfactor - i didn't even state that collection was an option. i just stated postage £4.95. on day 3 he just presumed he could collect and asked "when can i collect?" and i agreed to let him, presuming that he would be collecting in the next few days (as i had stated in the auction that payment is required within 7 days). when people collect items from you they usually pay in cash when they collect. it took him 4 days from using buy it now to make any contact, then a day or 2 to receive a response from him, by this time i had already got the impression that he probably wasn't going to pay. i started an unpaid item dispute on day 7 after not hearing from him for about 2 days, to give him a kick up the a**e. he then replied in the dispute that he would like to collect tomorrow at around 3pm. i said this was fine, but he didn't turn up. when i called to ask if he was running late and why he hadn't contacted me i then got sworn at on the phone, told to keep the f*****g things. i closed the unpaid dispute and left it at that. i then receive an abusive message from him. care to tell me what i did wrong exactly?

kriss_boy - yes it was rude of him to presume he could collect. he didn't ask me if he could collect, just when he could collect. if i am at home during the day then i am usually on my own and didn't really want him to collect, but also didn't want to tell him he couldn't because then it would mean he probably wouldn't pay as i expect he only used buy it now as he presumed he could collect and save himself the £4.95 postage. yes it would have been a lot easier for me to just go to the post office since i go 3-4 times a week anyway. i did actually tell him if he paid by paypal i would get it in the post the same or next day, but that went ignored. and yes i do have better things to do than wait at home for an hour and a half for nothing!
