Why doesn't Cameron want Scottish Independence?

  • Yes, LM, also watched QT last night, and This Week afterwards.

I believe that the whole of the UK should have the opportunity to vote in a referendum which affects us all. Since the SNP don't want this, then I would like a separate referendum for the rest of us in the event that Scotland votes for independence. This would give us the opportunity to vote Scotland out of the UK.

I realise that this is an emotional, immature response. Exactly what I was hearing from the Scots last night. In essence I have never wanted them to go, but now I'm angry. Just go!

If they decide to keep the Monarchy, what will we charge them for their share of the cost? Do Canada and Australia pay anything for them? How much extra will the Monarchy cost the rest of us, if the Scots no longer contribute. (PS - I like the Monarchy, but could this trigger the end of them?).

This is all going on too far without the 'deal' being thrashed out, debated, and the whole of the UK having a say.

    Am so angry about this.

What is the History of the Monarchy?
Why do you presume them to be English?

James VI and I (19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625) was King of Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from the union of the English and Scottish crowns on 24 March 1603 until his death

The monarchy heritage apprears to have started in Scotland before the Union of the crowns

With this fact, how much should England have to pay to keep the monarchy as per your argument.

  • alex ferguson qualifies to play for the english cricket team based on residency, therefore, just like kevin pietersen, he is english.

    LOL,
It seems a repetitive thing to repatriase people if they are successful to be called English.

Anyway, I'd like to see the reaction on Sir Alex's face if you were to say this to him in person.

I think he'd have to find a hairdryer with the highest turbo setting ;o)

I reiterate my earlier suggestion that England should vote to break up the UK.

Is there any reason we wouldn't want to? Or is it contended that we don't have the right to?

Isn't there a party that supports this? I think they are called the English Democrats or something similar. The problem is how do you define England? Would you leave Wales out? Not sure that they would want to have independence forced on them. And what about the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man?
  • Certainly if I was Scottish, and living in Scotland, I would definitely vote for independence. Reason being that I would object to being ruled by a Tory government that Scots never vote for. This is the key issue as far as I'm concerned. Devolution is all well and good, but most tax raising powers still lie at Westminster.

What will the Scottish Independence Party call themselves if they get independence? Can they still call themselves the Independence party? independent from what? The rest of the countries in the world? Surely every country is independent.

It's not as bad as you may think.
The most recent competative game between an English Premier League Club and a Scottish Premier League Club resulted in a 2-1 aggregate win for Liverpool over Hearts.

Not exactly an easy walk over.

    Well, they were playing Liverpool.

This - from a top quality club - was a bit more emphatic

Scottish Alliance Liberal Minded Organised New Democrats.

Otherwise known as the Salmond party.

But with that extremely odious Nicola Sturgeon as deputy, they will be unofficially known as the Wet Fish Party.
