Me too. 30+ years. Never seen it happen.
All 30 years in inner city benefits offices and job centres where, often, 'customer' behaviour is not the best (although a minority that wouldn't mean a sweeping statement about "most") and provocation would be more likely to lead to a negative attitude among staff but hasn't.0 -
Rude? no more rude than this is ridiculous. As if you would have to give your password to a person in the job-centre. MAYBE they can get you to apply for jobs under their scrutiny with an account you have for that purpose, but they can't make you give them access to YOUR personal emailBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

Absolutely no difference. It is unthinkable that someone would ask you for this information unless they were criminals or the police... or incredibly stupid... I'd immediately make a complaint on the expectation it is option 1 or 3.

the only thing that makes sense then if this is not standard practice is he may normally see people who have been on benefits for a long time, so they may ask these people for email account info?
My first day of signing 1 month ago, the adviser said she would refer me straight to the disability adviser, so I guess he is not a normal adviser but it was on a signing day so I signed on with him too.0 -

Listen... asking someone for their email address and password so they can use your account is not really much different than asking someone for their address and house keys so they can have a look around. It is unthinkable that they'd do this as standard or at all... it is completely unacceptable. End of. The disability advisor hopefully can give you better support in relation to getting back into work. Don't get me wrong, I agree and was shocked when he asked me but I guess hearing some of the stories on here nothing they do really surprises me, anyway he has said he wants to see me again for more help in about 6 weeks if I can't find work myself, as the help he can give being the disability adviser is very expensive so he can't give me the help for another few weeks...so he may ask again :rotfl:0 -
Passwords are private & confidential.
If anyone suggests this again, ask for it in writing and tell them you will make complaint as this is a serious security risk.

Are you actually sure it's a job centre your attending as to be fair your accusations are quite extraordinary. There would be no need for any advisor to ask for your password whatsoever!! And as for the help from a dea being more expensive is ridiculous they are a c grade which is the same as all the advisors in the Jcp.0
