That's a bit of a sweeping generalisation, I'm a senior advisor and I do the best I can for my customers...and yes that's what I choose to call them.
eventhough your genrelising, these "scum" are people, behind every drunk, every drug user is a story of how they got to be there, perhaps the 40yr old drunk that comes in every 2 weeks has a reason to be an acholic whether he lost his children in a fire, wife in a traffic accident, who knows, but before labelling as scum perhaps it would make you think.
yes i agree there are people out there who just signs on for the sake of getting cash to get their next fix and then come in in the afternoon wanting a crisis loan because their money got "lost on the bus on the way home", but i would hate to think that as a employee of JCP you think of people signing on are scum just because they got no job, or are a bit forcefull because the JCP have messed up their claim and causing a rightfull fuss.
do the NHS treat their drug overdose/drunk patients as scum?
no they treat them as people, so why do you see fit genrelise them as scum?0 -
I think csmw was saying MrBill was making a general statement about JCP staff. It's MrBill that has referred to 'scum' (and idiot chavs and junkies...)0

I did wonder whether MrBill was a troll -- trolling in tandem with topaziem.0 -

I think you'll find it wasn't me that made that disgusting comment. Please don't point the finger before you read my comment.0 -
In the public arena maybe, but I know full well how they are described behind the scenes! Much the same as most 'customers' that are dealt with by the civil service.
Scum is one of the more polite names used
Please don't tar us all will the same brush there are good and bad in every progression!!
I for one have never called a customer scum and I've never heard any of my colleagues either.
Some of us do everything in our power to help our customers, I reguarly work through lunch just to assist people. Before this I was in welfare to work and all my customers had my work mobile number so they could contact me at anytime and it some cases this was up till 11pm in the evening! Because at the end of the day it's peoples lives and if If just having a chat when someone's is feeling down will help move them forward then that's what I'll do.0 -
I am reporting exactly what goes on out of the public gaze in most offices that employ civil servants.
What are you, a spy? You bug behind the scenes? You have some super power, perhaps you turn invisible by playing with your watch or something and you sneak behind the scenes? It is even a well known and publicised fact on utube of some civil servants actually being caught making obscene comments about the public.0 -
Well thank you, my faith has been restored!
You are one of the very few.
Just from a point of security, you have given out your private number?
Most civil servants see work as a means to earn an income, some go the extra mile - but not many in my experience.
You sound like a saint as you make me feel a sinner! I can assure you that in the two major government departments that I have worked in (definitely not the DWP thank God) the 'customers' are not thought of in that way or even described as such out of the public gaze.
As for getting telephone calls at 11pm from a welfare claimant, sorry - but my phone would be switched off the moment I left the office.
I have a life to live and if they can't telephone me in office hours when I am paid to do my job, then they can wait until the next day!
Now I'm unsure as to whether or not your being sarcastic but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
I am far from a saint but I do try to do the best by my customers. It wasn't my personal telephone number it was a business line.
If me spending 10 mins of my personal time helping someone with there neves over an interview or some other issue out of hours helps them overcome a barrier then that's what I'll do. And il make no apologies for it.0 -

i owe you an apology, at first reading i read it that you were agreeing with bill thaths what you choose to call them, but after rereading i can see you were saying you choose to call them customers.
i dont find my comment disgusting, i was mearly pointing out that behind every person is a stroy to be told, wich is food for thought for those who wish to look down upon society.
