I have started a court claim using MCOL effective from 6/3 . Today the Abbey have written to me wanting details of my account , how I have calculated my claim with date and charge claimed and how I have calculated my interest. They state "we appreciate you have forwarded these details to our internal Complaints dept however, we do not have access to this information".

Am I right in thinking I just send a photocopy of my original claim with a cover note ?

They also want my contact tel no and e-mail address ,which makes me think they want to have a "chat" , any advice please ?
  • Lady E, I got the same letter from Abbey saying they wanted contact details, I wrote back giving them email address and refusing phone number as i didnt trust them and wanted everything in writing. they never bothered to contact me
Im currently at the allocation questionaire stage (delivering to court today), however Abbey are acting very strange. I am claimming back £2681 and Abbey have offered exactly half, which i am refusing. However in their defence to the court they dispute "...the ammount of £3115..." is this abbey being confused or have i claimed too little back (fingers crossed).
In addition to this on my previous statement on 25th Feb this year Abbey refunded £165 to my account in 6 different ammounts for unauthorised overdraft charges etc. I didnt ask for this seperately, are they just paying me a little back to skew the ammount i contand in court???? It cant just be Abbey being nice can it????
    Any help would be great
  • Hi guys!!

I'm trying to claim £1500 from abbey but have had no response as yet. Can anyone tell me or give me some links of some success stories from Abbey customers, as Abbey seems to be a very hard nut to crack!

Abbey customers please keep up the good work and let's get em!!!

    Cheers

I've just composed my 1st letter to the Abbey for reclaiming bank charges.

They had hundreds, if not into the thousands off me in bank charges to which i've never really recovered from.

Fingers crossed I get some back.

I've just been told this in another forum I go on.......

I read in a paper yesterday that Abbey has apparently been very sneaky in trying to deter customers requesting copies of their records. Several people interviewed mentioned that when they received their requested statements all the charges had been removed!

Has anyone on this board claiming Abbey charges back experienced this??

  • Hi Miss H,

I had exactly that from Abbey, the stuff they sent from Microfiche was fine, but the 14 months of duplicate statements had the charges removed, it was only because i happened to find an original statement at the back of a drawer that i realised the charges were missing. I complained to the call centre, the guy said it was definately not something they would do and sent me the exact same statements again!
After booking an appointment to see the manager of my local branch (by telling her i wanted to talk about a mortgage!!) I brought it up with her. Thankfully she was very helpful and gave me a copy of the computer printouts which detailed the ammounts charged.
    Keep your eyes open!!!!!

Okay, letter requesting statements has been sent today (not recorded, oops). New account opened ready and answers prepared for debt collection people when they come for my overdraft. Pretty sure my claim will be over £5000 so should get interesting. Fingers crossed all!
Dont know if this helps you feel better at all but i was referred to a debt collection agency for my overdraft i owed to Abbey, i just phoned the debt collection agency and told them that i wont be paying anything back just yet as i am in dispute with Abbey, they accepted this and passed the debt back on to Abbey, so dont worry about bailiffs knocking on your door, just contact the collection agency and inform them of what you intend to do.
    Good luck! You'll get there!

yes, i had this, but luckily i had the last 2 years statements, and the charges ARE listed on the microfiche under the abbreviation of CHG, easily missable unless you know what you are looking for!

Well I have most of my statements from ABBEY, but was missing a few. So I sent the demand letter and a DPA request for my statements.

Now Abbey are slowly sending me all my statements one by one well when I say all so far they have sent me this years and last years. still awaiting previous.

However the statements they have sent me have a different layout then the normal ones. Instead of showing any Interest and charges on the first page. They are only showing the interest and leaving the charges in the list of account transactions, thus trying to confuse us and making our lives just that little bit more difficult. It is ridiculous. It means that rather than just looking at the front page for all charges that month. You have to go through each page and mark out the charges.

I sent my second letter on Monday and had a weird message to call them on Tuesday. They stated that according to DPA they have 40 days to reply. I thought that only applied to the statement request. I will ring them tomorrow and see what they have to say for themselves. But will press on regardless.

Also I sent the demand letter to my local branch. Is this correct? Well they rang me so I know they received it.

Its a pity a successes seem to be sooo few compared to others.

    We can do it.:j
