hi all new to this so still trying to get my head around it and would like a bit of advice,
recieved 6 years statements from abbey totalled all charges up and listed on a spreadsheet a whopping £7100!!!!!!!!!
before i send the letter asking for it back is it wise to transfer all direct debits and my salary to my other current account?
can abbey close my account and demand i pay them the overdraught while the claim is outstanding or can they only do this once the claim is settled?
thanks for any help in advance

If they ask you to close your account, they will give you 28 days notice. This is enough time to switch any payments you have. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

thanks for that rex_mundi 28 days is plenty of time to sort everything out
now its time to fight for my money back as the charges are from a while back i do not need the money anymore it would be more of a bonus so i am prepared to take them all the way to court if i have to0 -
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know that Abbey have had me running around the bushes for months but are finally paying up so sitck with the timetable you give them and don't listen to their rubbishy stall tactics.
I am at the court stage and Abbey have said they are going to defend it but haven't filed yet, but they have put less than half of what I am asking for back into my account.
It's a long process but well worth it!0 -
I sent my letter requesting my statements to my local branch, will this or what kind of affect will this have on the 40 days time limit? If i dont hear anything do i send the second letter to the address on here or back to my local branch?0

Hi there,
I realise this may be a bit late in replying. But if it makes you feel any better, i had the same situation, i only received the last 14 months statements with the bank charges panel removed, thinking that the rest might follow on in the posti gave them a week to see if the rest turned up. After a week, they sent me a microfiche wad of transactions dating back to when i opened the account in 2002, but the charges arent very clear. if you havent done already, look for the abbreviated CHG lines and calculate the charges from them that way.
Just about to send them my second letter asking for the charges back!
Wish me luck!
Wishing you luck too!!

kwizzy wrote:Has anyone actually had to take the Abbey right through the Court process? I did all the usual letter stages and then resorted to MoneyClaim Online. Abbey is defending the claim (Court date set for 14 Feb) and I'm getting a bit concerned that I've messed it up somehow and that they will follow through with it!
Let us know how you get on in court as i believe it's tomorrow?
Best of luck!0 -
Hi, we are in the middle of this process with Abbey, but are slightly different as we had closed our account with them 8 months ago. Is anyone doing the same?:smileyheaRachel xx0
