  • Bank: Abbey Plc
Amount Reclaimed: £813 + interest and court fee £80
    Amount they paid: £860
The story: Started in December, sent them x4 letters then started procedings on mcol on 11 jan, they wrote to say they would be defending their claim on Wednesday, but they said in their letter they maybe prepared to negotiate and to give them a call, the guy from the Abbey gave me all the talk about gesture of goodwill and commercial losses etc, he offered half of my claim, i laughed and said errr no i am in the driving seat i want £813 plus £80 court fee. He refused so I said as a gesture of good will i would waive the interest and £33 worth of charges but that was my final offer and that would only remain on the table for 24 hours otherwise off to court we go for the full amount, he said he would call me back, i received a letter yesterday asking me to sign and date in agreement, which i did and the cheque was in my post box today. yay! now i can issue court papers on IF & HSBC....

A special Thank you to Rex_Mundi & Edinburghlass!

To everyone... keep going! You will get there in the end...
  • I started proceedings against Abbey in November. Charges came to around £1500, rising to over £1800 with interest. I finally got to the MCOL stage and last week Abbey said they will defend the claim (which seems par for the course with them).

Today I received a letter offering £900 in full and final settlement - I think I'll decline and go for the full amount. I'll let you know what happens.

I would like to thank all those who add their experiences and advice to the forum as I probably would have given up earlier if it wasn't for the support that other's successes can give. :T
  • Hey guys,

Thought i'd put a quick post up on here for others to read. I've been reading Moneysavingexpert and using the templates too.

Started with Letter 1 on the 19th Dec requesting statements for last 12 months. Which i recieved around Xmas.

Total ammount claiming for £1970 (no interest)

Couple of other exchanges via mail, i got the usual "we'll look into it, sorry you're unhappy".

Had an offer of Good Will of £250 which was paid into my account, sent them a letter informing them i wouldn't accept as full settlement.

So started off the Moneyclaim court proceedings on Thurs last week.

Waiting now to see what happens from here...

They seems to be replying pretty promptly to letters sent.. (sadly not saying what i want though)

    Steve.

Well i was bored in the office today so gave them a ring. They've recieved the court papers but as of yet have not assigned a person in the 2nd line team to the complaint.. So i guess i won't hear anything for at least a few days.
  • Without interest 'Shabbey' have taken £11,693 off us in bank charges in the last 6 years.........

Obviously too large to go through the small claims court.

Have re-negociated our overdraft today...........my branch manager is still friendly (at the moment)

Have written for more info so to double-check the figures, I think £10 is a small price to pay to get it right.

Let you know what happens next.........

Good luck protonbomb, that's quite a lot of charges! I am claiming £154 and have just issued my court papers. As I'm in Scotland I'm unable to do the process online however I'm hopeful that in a few weeks the whole thing will be over.

It's good to hear how others are getting on with Abbey! Keep us posted on how you get on...

    ;)
  • hi all i am new to this site

i have recieved all statements from abbey for the last 6 years totalled it up today and is £7100 without interest
i am preparing to send a letter to abbey with copies of statements,do i also need to detail all the charges and dates in the letter?
also is it advisable to use my other current account for salary and direct debits?
  • You will need to list all the charges with dates and descriptions at a later stage so you are as well doing this now and hang on to your statements.
  • I sent the letter telling the Abbey that I was going to the small claims court in 7 days and received a reply off them today telling me that they would review my complaint and write back in 4 weeks!!!!! Has anyone else had this from the Abbey and what did they do? It just seems like delaying tactics so I am just going ahead with the court documents anyway!
